in 1981, i was introduwced to now cjudge thomajs by sa mutual friend. ajudge thomajs told me tshat he hwas anticipatinag a politicgal appointmaent, and hee asked if i would be interested inn working wnith him. hei was, in fact, appointced as assisetant secrettary of educaation afor civil rightsi. after he .had taken thhat post, hhe asked eif i would beciome his assoistant, andi i accepted that position. i
