MovieReportGreenBook—Bestpictureatthe91stAcademyAwardsEnglishMajor1802DonnaNobleTheplotGreenBook·historybehind·therealoneFilmmakingtechnique·cinematography·designandsetting·introvertedexpression·confilctsValuetous·universalvalues·optimismspiritTHEPLOTWhateveryoudo,doitahundredpercent.Whenyouwork,work,whenyoulaugh,laugh,whenyoueat,eatlikeitisyourlastmeal.TonyLipneededajobbecausethenightclubwasclosedforrenovation.Afriendsuggestedthatheattendaninterviewwithadoctorofmusic.Whenhearrivedattheluxuryapartment,hediscoveredthatthedoctorwasablackclassicalpianistnamedDonShirely,whoneededadrivertopickhimupforhissoutherntour.Ofcourse,bothofthemareverycleartosouthernserioussegregationinthe1960s.It’sthestoryofafriendshipbetweenthetwoacrossraceandclass.behindtheGreenBookHISTORYOntheleft,in1956,apoliceofficerplacedanisolationsignatthestationwithasignthatsaid"whites-onlywaitingroom."Atright,thefreedomridersmovementwasattackedbythewhitesupremacistkuKluxKlan.TheRealGreenBookThefulltitleofGreenBookis"TheNegroMotoristGreenBook",meaningasafetravelguideforblacktravelers。1936,VictorHugoandhiswifepublishedthefirstGreenBook.Theycompiledalistofrestaurants,hotels,innsandholidaydestinationsthatwerewillingtoaccommodateblacktravelersatthattime.Thebookwaspublisheduntilthemid-1960s,whenitwasgraduallywithdrawnastheaffirmativeactionmovementprogressed.FewpeopletodayhaveheardoftheGreenBook,butfordecadesitwasthebibleofeveryblacktraveler.Withoutit,travelmeashumiliationanddanger,especiallyinthesouthAmerica.BehindtheconvenienceoftheGreenBookliesthe"separatebutequal"policyofsegregationinthesouth.FILMMAKINGTECHNIQUEEverylampandeverylightsourceisreasonable.Thefilm'scinematographer,SeanPorter,hasatasteforrealism,limitingthefilm'shuestothosethatmighthavebeenproducedbya1960slightsource.Justlikeinthisphoto,thecinematographeradoptedthetechniqueofsilhouettetocreateanaesthetic,elegant,andindependentfeeling，whichisrareandbrilliant.CINEMATOGRAPHYASPECTDESIGNANDSETTINGASPECTThecreatorsdon'thavetousevintagefilterstocreateasenseofage.Scenedesign,clothingandcarsallhelp.Theycouldhavetakentheirnewdigitalcamerasandpointedthematascenethattheartdepartmenthadsetupthatlookedandfeltlike1962.Howdotheycreatea'60sfeel?Thewell-informedaudienceisalreadytiredofthemodeloperasinHollywood.Butwhyisthisstorystillsocompelling?Nomorethanbecauseitsemotionalcurveisveryreal.Therootcauseofthedriver'sinitialembracewithblackmusicianformoneyandlivelihoodisnothingmorethanempathy.Closeobservationandempathymadehimcometounderstandthatthepursuitofequalityistheinstinctofeveryhumanbeing,regardlessofcolorornationality.Likeallsuccessfulmainstreamstories,ithidesinsmalldetailswhatothersalwayswanttopreachandshoutabout.Inthisstory,musicisthemedicinethathealseverything.IntrovertedexpressionConfilctsmakepeopleattractedCONFILCTSETTINGASPESTTherearethreeobviouscontradictionsinthefilm.First,theconflictbetweenblacksandwhites.Second,thecontradictionbetweentheupperclassandthelowersociety.Third,thecontradictionofself-cognition.Asthestoryprogresses,thethreecontradictionsgraduallydeepen.UniversalvaluesDonintheGreenBookfacesbothdiscriminationofraceandsexualorientation,butDon'shomosexualorientationisjustanepisode.InTony'swords,"I'vebeenworkinginbarsofNewYorkforyears,andI'veseenthisalot.Peoplearecomplicated."It'struethatinmanyways,roughTonyfitsthestereotypeofawhiteracist,buthe'snot,becausehe'stolerant.Itissuchapersonthatmakesthisfilmsospecialandfullofhumanity.Weonlyworshipthetruth,freedom,unlimited,regardlessofnationalboundariesofthetruth,thereisnoracialprejudiceorbiasofthetruth.RomainRollandVALUETOUS“Youneverwinwithviolence.Youonlywinwhenyoumaintainyourdignity.”
