Unit 12  Merry Christmas  Here Comes Santa Clause （圣诞老人来了） By Huang Daya Lead-in: “Jingle bells, Jingle Bells, Jingle all the way…” Here comes the old man---- He’s fat; he has long white mustache; he dresses in red and carries a bag; he drives nine reindeers named differently; he pulls a sleigh which is full of toys to give every child a gift from door to door. His biggest worry is that the chimney houses are becoming less and less nowadays. Can you guess who he is? Background knowledge: Information about the singer: Doris Day(多丽丝·戴) Doris Day (born Doris Mary Ann Kappelhoff; April 3, 1922) is an American actress, singer, and animal rights activist. Day began her career(职业) as a big band singer in 1939. In fact, Day dreamed to be a dancer when she was a child, but a car accident at the age of 15 changed her fate. She began to work in the radio and club as a singer to make a living(谋生). In the 1940s, she was already a well-known music singer. In 1948, for the first time she won the audience favorite by taking part in the movie Romance on the High Seas(海上罗曼史). Her sunny and lovely images in the movie impressed people a lot. Then in 1950 she had become a singer star(影歌双栖), especially the movies which she starred in with Lochson(洛赫逊) and Carlisle Glenn(卡莱葛伦) achieved very high box office(票房纪录). In 1959, she won the best actress Oscar nomination(奥斯卡最佳女主角提名) in the movie Repos du guerrier, Le(枕边细语). However, in 1968, Day ended her movie career because of nervous breakdown(精神崩溃). A few years later after her recovery, Day turned to host variety show(综艺节目). Background of the song Here comes Santa Clause "Here Comes Santa Claus (Right Down Santa Claus Lane)" is a Christmas song written by Gene Autry and Oakley Haldeman. Autry got the idea for the song after riding his horse in the 1946 Santa Claus Lane Parade (圣诞老人游行巷) in Los Angeles(洛杉矶) during which many people shouted, "Here comes Santa Claus". This inspired(激发) him to write a song and his friend Haldeman set it to music. A demo(样本演示) recording was made by singer Johnny Bond, whose recording made use of(利用) ice cubes(冰块) to mimic(模拟) the sound of the jingling sleigh-bells(叮当雪橇声).
