My View on Advertisements on TV
Nowadays advertisements are very common. Whenever yo
u turn on TV, you are
likely to see ads. The advertisers are trying to inform you of the many differen
t sorts of uptodate products on the market. Besides, it often occurs while y
ou
are absorbed in watching a wonderful film on TV, endless commercials interrupt
you from time to time, and make you quite annoyed.
There are two reasons, I think, for the growing number of ads on TV. First
, in a competitive economy, the consumer usually has the choice of several diffe
rent brands of the same product. Thus, manufacturers are confronted with a probl
em—how to keep their sales high enough to stay competent in the business. Th
ey solve this problem by advertising. By advertising, each producer tries to con
vince the consumers that its product is preferable. Second, most consumers are i
nter
ested in ads. They want to get from TV ads the firsthand information about new
products, which enables them to choose the one they like best. Consequently, ads
increase a lot on the TV screen.
As far as I am concerned, I am in favor of TV ads because most of them are inter
esting and informative. But there is no denying that some TV ads are tedious and
boring. So I feel TV stations are faced with an arduous task to strengthen the
control of ads, to improve their quality and to make them attractive.

My View on Bicycles in China
China is called the kingdom of bicycles because it has the largest number of bic
ycles in the world. The bicycle is the most popular transportation tool in China
. Wherever you go, you can see many people riding on bikes to go to work, school
, do shopping, or visit friends. During the rush hour, you may see a boiling sea
of bikes in all directions.
Compared with cars, bikes have many advantages. First, they are very handy and c
onvenient. With a bike, you can go anywhere you like, and you needn’t look for a
large parking place in a crowded town. By riding bikes, you can avoid traffic j
ams and thus save the time. Second, they are not very expensive, and almost ever
y family can afford them. Third, they do not cause air or sound pollution. Besid
es, riding bikes regularly does good to your health. In modern times, people are
usually too busy to have any time for physical exercise. Riding bikes serves as
a good way to keep yourself strong and healthy.
However, bicycles also have some disadvantages. For example, they make streets c
rowded and are likely to cause traffic accidents. In rainy or snowy weather, rid
ing bikes may be difficult, and fall from them may result in injury. But despite
the disadvantages, the bicycle is still very useful, convenient and necessary m
eans of transportation in China. And I do believe it will still be so in future.

Fiction Can Teach Us More
Fiction, such as novels and short stories, is always considered as a way of ente
rtainment, but as far as I am concerned, I think it is far more than a pure rela
xation. It can be instructive, and it can even teach us more about life than tex
tbooks.
Authors of famous works are usually wellexperienced. They put all their k
nowledge and social experience into their literary works. They create a colorful
world in which we can find great quantity of treasure.
Since fiction is primarily based on everyday life, the knowledge it includ
es is always close to life. It is easy to master and ready to practice. On the c
ontrary, textbooks focus on specialized subjects and they intend to be obtuse, t
heoretical or abstract and therefore dull. To most ordinary people, fiction is m
ore acceptable.
There is no royal road to learning.
学无坦途。
Another reason why fiction is superior to textbooks lies in their imaginat
ion. Authors always create attractive characters so as to give his opinion about
nature and the society as well as life. It not only provides knowledge, but als
o teaches us what is the right attitude toward life. For instance, we can learn
from Gone With the Wind how to be a strongwilled person; from Jack London,
how
to love life. We can be stimulated to overcome all obstacles to realize our ambi
tions.
So, fiction enables people to form their positive view of life, optimism of spir
it and invincible courage. In this aspect, fiction provides us with an opportuni
ty to learn and to practice, while textbooks barely can.

Capital Punishment: For and Against
Those who are in favor of capital punishment generally claim that it deters crim
inals from committing crimes for fear of execution and, furthermore, that some c
rimes are so terrible that the only appropriate punishment for them is death. Ot
hers also point out that alternative punishments, such as extremely long prison
terms, are a great expense to society and rarely result in rehabilitation, so th
at the criminal would be a danger to the community if he was ever freed.
\;
Forbearance is no acquittance.
缓期偿还并不等于免除债务。
While there is some truth in these arguments, opponents say that statistical evi
dence, for example from many cities, clearly shows that capital punishment does
not affect murder rates, but only arouses morbid interest in executions. They ad
d that civilized society should not descend to the barbarous level of the crimin
als themselves, and that many of the most horrible crimes are committed by deran
ged persons whom nothing would deter. Finally, they argue that if a mistake is m
ade and the wrong person is executed, nothing can be done to right that wrong.
\;
The arguments on both sides are persuasive but certain other factors incline me
to vote against capital punishment. It is illegal to murder, but are we justifie
d in taking away the life of the murderer? No. Capital punishment helps create a
bloody world. He who never errs does not exist. The death penalty leaves no cha
nce for first offenders to reform. Some criminals can be reformed if handled pro
perly. The death sentence leaves criminals no hope at all.

My Ideal Job

Different people choose different jobs according to their interests and ab

\;
First of all, a teacher’s job is very important because a teacher can provide st

However, it is not easy to be a qualified teacher. A good teacher needs k

as much as possible. Second, I must acquire a habit of being patient. Third, I m

In a word, teaching is a demanding job. I will live up to the qualificatio

My Solution to Cheating in Exams
It is estimated that students on most, if not all, campuses cheat on their
courses and tests. This is a serious issue affecting all aspects of education.
The following may help control or prevent cheating.
First, students should be made aware that good scores result from diligenc
e rather than dishonest means while it is a shame to cheat in exams. Both teache
rs and parents should care more about the students’ moral development. Students
should be familiar with the proverb, “Honesty is the best policy.” The most ef
fe
ctive way to prevent cheating is to promote academic integrity(正直), while at
the same time effectively confronting those who do cheat.
Second, regulations or rules should be established that those who are disc
overed cheating in exams must be punished severely, namely, expelled from the sc
hool or university.
Those who make the best use of time have none to spare.
善于利用时间的人没有多余的时间
Third, students should be strict with themselves. They should realize what
cheating will result in. They should also realize that cheating is harmful to s
ociety as well as to themselves in the long run. We should help them understand
that effective learning depends on honesty, respect, rigor, and fairness.

Hard Life Is Good for Children
An English proverb goes like this, “Spare the rod and spoil the child.” It
implies that in order to enable a child to grow healthily, parents must make hi
m eat bitter foods, do hard work and be sent to places where he can get the full
est training and knowledge.
First of all, eating bitter foods is necessary for a child. Poor food can
help cultivate in him the frugal(节俭的)habit and make him realize what we eat
daily is the fruit of the sweat of the laboring people. Consequently, he will n
ot be wasteful when he grows up. Secondly, parents should also make the child do
hard work. Doing hard work will give him an opportunity to taste the bitterness
of labor. Moreover, hard work may also enable him to cherish the fruit of other
s’ labor. Finally, children should be sent to somewhere where life is hard if po
ssible. Human society is full of tests and trials. Flowers from a greenhouse can
never withstand a storm. Therefore, children should be allowed to face the worl
d and brave the storm. It is in difficult conditions that young people can get t

If parents can follow the three points discussed above, they will make it
possible for their child to make a successful living and great accomplishments i
n his life.

Where to Live—in the City or in the Country
Many people maintain that living in big cities is superior to living in the coun

is why many people flock to big cities from rural areas in order to make money.
Living standards are higher. Second, there are many schools and universities, w

Active Classes or Passive Classes
It is obvious that the differences between passive classes and active classes ar
e enormous though classes often seem outwardly alike.
The passive kind of class, or duckstuffing method, usually has a teacher who l

rom her notebook in which she had carefully written all her lectures. Teacher
s i
n a passive classroom simply dictate information and answers. They pour facts in
to the students like pouring water into a sieve. The students are usually forced
to sit, listen, take notes, and do only what the teacher has required.
The other kind of class, the active kind, usually has a teacher who stimulates t
he students to learn for themselves by asking questions, by posing problems, and
most of all by being a student, too. Such a teacher might plan the outline of a
course, but doesn’t force the class in only one direction. Students in active c
lasses become more involved in their learning; they ask questions about why and
read books to search for some answers themselves, then discuss what they have fo
und in class.
I prefer active classes because learning becomes fun. Although students may not
much care about facts in classes, their attitudes toward learning and their exci
tement in developing answers for themselves don’t end with the class.

However, letters may do a better job when you have a lot to express to som

My View on Competition
It is natural that people try to perform better than each other at everything th

for them to survive in fierce competition.
It is true that competition benefits us in many ways. First it makes people crea

The Positive and Negative Effects of Computers
It is generally accepted that computers benefit human beings in many ways. But t

Computers are being used more and more widely in the world today, for the simple
st reason that they are far more efficient than human beings. Computers have muc

receiving email, shopping, advertising, making friends, and entertaining. The

However, computers have been creating many problems. First, viruses arise freque

Despite their disadvantages, computers have brought us far more benefits than tr

Why do people feel frustrated when they are capable of doing something? Th

It is possible to build up faith in oneself by having the right attitude t

The proverb, “No pains, no gains,” means that you have to make great efforts

In history, there have been many famous people of great achievements. You may cl

【模拟训练参考作文16My View on Dissatisfaction
I am in favor of this statement. It is human nature to seek more and want someth
ing different. There are many instances in our daily life that can verify it.
\;
Travel makes a wise man better, but a fool worse.
旅行使智者更聪明,使愚者更愚蠢。
Take a human’s basic need for example. When a person is starving, his greatest d
esire is to have something to eat, anything edible. After this need is satisfied
and when he no longer worries about his next meal, he feels that his food lacks
quality. When this problem is solved, he may complain that his meal lacks varie
ty or taste. He wants better and better meals and his desire can never be satisf
ied. According Maslow, human beings have five levels of need. After the first le
vel of need—physical need (need for food, clothing and shelter) is satisfied,
people want their second level of need—the safety and security need to be sati
sfied. When this need is met, they wish their social need, esteem need and self
realization need to be met. Other human desires follow the same pattern. We do n
ot want to wear the same clothes all the time and we want better furniture, bett
er houses, better jobs, and more and more money. Many people are dreaming of bec
oming millionaires.
This human nature has been the impetus to the development of human society. Mark
ets have flourished because we want more and better goods. The development of sc
ience and technology has never stopped because of our desire to discover more an
d more. And our living and working conditions have been incessantly improved owi
ng to our endless demand for a better place to work and live in. If man had been
easily satisfied, the human society would still be at its primitive stage.

Selfeducation stays with us throughout our lives. In order to keep up with the
rapid development of modern world, we have to keep on trying hard to improve our

【模拟训练参考作文18Letter Grades and Passfail Grades
Some educators believe that giving letter grades to students in their exams
can best encourage competition among students. Others consider that passfail
g
rades are more appropriate. Actually in my opinion, both methods have their adv
antages and disadvantages as they can be applied under different circumstances.
\;
Letter grades divide the range of scores in a scale with A as the top scor
e, and E or F as fail. This method can best represent the examiner’s opinion on
each student’s level of study in a certain group of students. In order to get th
e top score, students compete fiercely, thus impelling to learn more. On the oth
er hand, students are usually very nervous in exams, and may not perform well en
ough. Moreover, the method itself is very arbitrary. It’s difficult to draw a cl
earcut between A and B, B and C, and so on. Besides, a teacher’s preimpressi
on of a student and his feeling at the moment often affect the scoring.
Passfail marking, on the other hand, is a more general evaluation of stud
ents’ performance in an exam. If students can show an adequate understanding of
the subject matter, they receive a pass score. If failing to answer the question
s satisfactorily, they receive a fail. With this system, students are more relax
ed when the exam comes. And they can read extensively rather than focus their at
tention on a narrow subject area. However, this method does not give students mu
ch pressure, and they find it easy to drift along happily in their study. The co
mpetition among them is thus discouraged.
I think the two scoring methods should be used in combination under different ci
rcumstances. Letter grades can be applied to major areas of concentration to ens
ure that students spend enough time and effort in understanding the subject matt
er. Areas of minor concentration such as optional courses can be marked with pas
sfail grades, as they require only a general understanding of the content.

Extensive reading benefits us in many ways. First, by reading extensively, we ca

Vocabulary is one of the most important factors contributing to a good command o

stead of memorizing vocabulary from a dictionary, we can obtain a considerable a

An intensive reading is very helpful for this purpose because it ensures the bas

d consequently our ability to express ourselves in the language accurately is im

a large number of words in contexts with a practical knowledge about collocation

According to scientists, the “Greenhouse Effect” is the most serious problem

planet has ever faced. First of all, the level of the ocean could rise, because
ocean water expands as it grows warmer. Melting polar icecaps could also contri

lose their homes, and cities like New Orleans might be completely submerged.

Parts of the world that are already hot might become unbearably hotter. Hot weat

Some parts of the world might become much drier. Already many parts of Africa ha

Many scientists suggest that people need to learn to conserve fuel, since burnin

On the other hand, many people insist that environmental protection should be a

【模拟训练参考作文23My View on Euthanasia
Euthanasia, or mercy killing, means allowing, or even causing, an easy and
painless death for someone who suffers from an incurable illness. Different peo
ple have different attitudes toward it. Some think the practice of euthanasia ca
n bring mental and physical release to an incurably sick patient and his family.
Others are strongly opposed to it, thinking it is inhumane to end the life of a
person. My view is that we should consider the specific situation a patient is
in and make decisions accordingly.
The first situation is that if the patient is suffering from an incurable
disease, but he is still conscious and rational enough to make a decision, we sh
ould show respect for his opinion. If he is not willing to have euthanasia, doct
ors and nurses should try everything they can to extend his life and relieve his
pain.
The second situation is that if a patient cannot tolerate the pain and has
no hope of recovering, and he wishes to die with dignity and peace instead of a
gony and degradation. In this case, euthanasia is the only satisfactory way out.
So far no law has established the individual’s inherent right to die at will ot
her than by suicide. And euthanasia has not been legalized yet. Modern medicine
makes it possible to prolong the fact, if not the quality, of life; then, the so
ciety must solve the complicated legal, moral and religious problems that arise.
I believe it is indignity to be kept alive with needles, tubes, bottled blood,
and mechanical equipment. To remove the artificial devices is not ending a life,
but a refusal to hold off death by using machinery. A person who is kept alive
by machinery is not living; he is simply denied the right to die. Therefore, the
patient is morally killed but not physically released.

Virtue and a trade are the best portion for children.
德行和一门技艺,是给孩子的最好遗产。
I prefer the subjective exams (also called essaytype exams) to the objective e

\;
Compared with the objective exams, the subjective exams have several advantages.
First, it usually requires the students to write long answers to broad question
s, because of which it can reduce the element of luck. Students are not limited
to selecting the right answer from a group of possible answers as in an objectiv
e exam. Second, the examinees are able to express their own opinions freely and
interpret information in any way you wish. Students can think and express creati
vely while an objective exam is intended to deal with fact rather than personal
opinions. Similarly, the teacher is able to evaluate the quality of the student’
s opinions and interpretations, as well as the organization and logic of his pre
sentation. Third, it shows the examiner more about the student’s ability to put
facts together into a meaningful whole. The student may be allowed to select, or
ganize, and present information in whatever way you choose whereas an objective
exam only requires the student to recognize the correct answer and copy its
letter or number and it mainly tests the student’s memory of facts and details.

On the whole, this type of exams can reveal an examinee’s real quality. It is ge
nerally considered more effective in measuring a student’s ability to assimilate
or interpret information.
【模拟训练参考作文25Is Failure a Bad Thing
Failure is a lack of success in achieving or doing something. It is a usua

in face of failure. Instead, they stick to their aim, without caring about how m
any failures they have experienced in their attempt to reach their destination.
I am in favor of the latter attitude toward failure.
As the familiar proverb goes, failure is the mother of success. All great people
owe their successes to their constant efforts. And unexceptionally all have exp
erienced certain failures before they made any accomplishments. Thomas Edison, g

results of hundreds of experiments. Once, when he had made 8,000 tests without
success, an assistant asked him if he was discouraged. He replied “ Why should

the way to success is full of various difficulties and obstacles. But failure re

In brief, failure is the only highroad to success. As college students, we

【模拟训练参考作文26My View on the Harmfulness of Fake Commodities
With the rapid economic development, fake commodities prevail in quite som
e places in our country. Some profiteers, regardless of people’s interests and h

elling fake and poorquality products. On the other hand, the punishment is not
severe enough to deter the violators. As a result, some markets are swarming wit
h such fakes as phony foodstuff, clothing, and even medicine.
Fake commodities are extremely harmful to customers as well as to the soci
ety. For instance, some people dreaming of becoming rich overnight a few years a
go, were making fake medicine, which resulted in the loss of many lives, causing
great sufferings to many victims. The incident exerted a terrible influence on
customers. The fear of buying fake commodities is plunging people into worry, co
nfusion and panic; they have no sense of safety. People even dare not buy the ge
nuine products of the same brand. The production and sale caused a great loss to
or even ruined the producers of the genuine products.
It is really high time that our government should take some measures to pr
event the production and sale of fake products. Anyone who produces or sells fak

【模拟训练参考作文28My View on Computer Games
Recently, more and more people have become addicted to computer games. They are
so indulged in them that it seems as if they could hardly live without playing t

When wine sinks, words swim.
三杯美酒灌下肚,胡言乱语便出口。
Undoubtedly, computer games are the result of advances in science. They help peo
ple relax because people can find something new, interesting and stimulating to
play with. However, sitting in front of the TV screen for too long a time can do
great harm to the health, especially to the eyes. In addition, the tension and
concentration will do a player no good to his nervous system. Moreover, addictio
n to computer games affects people’s work or study. Many students, especially el
ementary school pupils, failing to resist the temptation, spend the money given
by their parents for buying stationery, play truant, enjoying the games from mor
ning till evening.
Therefore, I think people should adopt a right attitude toward it, and make use
of the advantages of them. People should be allowed to play games only for a lim

Parents must prevent their children from developing this hobby. Those computer

【模拟训练参考作文29On Generation Gap
In modern times, there is often a lack of understanding between generation
s. Children often complain that their parents cannot understand them, while pare
nts feel sorry that their children seldom show them proper respect and obedience
.
We never know the worth of water till the well is dry.
井干方知水可贵。
This is called generation gap. It is a common social problem everywhere.
Generation gap results from different factors. First of all, generation ga
p is caused by different understanding of the great changes in the world and dif
ferent attitudes toward traditional principles and beliefs. Young people are usu
ally fond of changes and challenges, and they are inclined to accept innovations
in their vocations. On the contrary, old people on average are conservative, st
icking to traditional ideas. Second, owing to the
ir different ages, experiences, values, and ways of thinking, they have differen
t likes and dislikes. For instance, many young people are crazy about pop songs
and jazz music, whereas most old people think the “noises” unbearable. Third,
young people have opportunities to choose their own
lifestyles because they have their own ideals. They would not blindly follow
t
heir parents’ advice. They may choose occupations different from those of their
parents. This causes misunderstanding. Children regard their parents’ concern fo
r them as a burden. However, parents maintain that their children are still youn
g and want to take them under their wings. When children turn a deaf ear to thei
r wellintentioned advice, they feel angry and sad.
In my opinion, the gap can be bridged only if both parents and children ma
ke great efforts. Parents should treat their children like equals rather than ba
bies, and try to understand the feelings and thoughts of the young. Children sho
uld respect their parents and be aware that what their parents do is for their g
ood.

Good habits are of great significance to one’s success. Everyone yearns fo

First, diligence can bring happiness to those who yearn for success in the

foundation of one’s future success. If you become sick, it is nearly impossible
for you to pursue your career effectively, much less to make your dreams come tr
ue. On the other hand, if you are healthy and strong, you can go all out to over
come the obstacles that lie ahead of you.
Now that we know that health is the resource of our energy, what should we do to
maintain and enhance our health? First, we should exercise every day to strengt
hen our muscles. There are many forms of physical exercise for us to choose, suc

In conclusion, health is more important than wealth. Those who are rich but lose

Sports can help people stay healthy. Physical exercise can increase the ci

waste matter is expelled from the body. Physical exercise can increase appetite
and digestion. A person who takes exercise spends more energy. The more energy
he spends, the more blood he uses. New blood requires food to keep it pure. Besi
des, sports can also make our minds sound. While exercising, we distract our att

Since sports can bring us good health, we should indulge in it for a while

The maintaining of one vice costs more than ten virtues.

If we take two people at random from the crowd, it is likely that their degrees

Suppose if we put two identical twins in different environments. For example, we

Physical activities and intellectual pursuits are the two basic ways in wh

Physical activities give us the opportunities to strengthen our bodies and
to satisfy our competitive nature. The activities range from participation in s

whether we want to enjoy these activities as part of a group, for example, a fo

Besides physical recreation, we enjoy intellectual activities. Activities
such as reading a good book, writing stories, or listening to the music, serve t

to mental readiness and innovation or tranquilizer or temporary escape from the

necessary for good health, but intellectual pursuits give me the most pleasure.

In modern society it seems impossible to live without money. For instance, a cou

There is no doubt that we can hardly manage to live without money. Money i

First, since modern world is changing rapidly, it is important for me to k

It is true that there are opportunities everywhere for everybody. For example, A

In my childhood, my parents were very strict with me. No matter how I pleaded or
tricked them to allow me to go out and play, the answer always invariably remai

, writing, and playing the piano and so on. In these activities, my parents were
my partners and guides. They laid great emphasis on my study. I often got angry
because they did not allow me to do whatever I liked. In such an environment, I
finished my elementary school, high school, and became a university student lat

Little children are like young trees. In order to grow well, they need to be car
efully irrigated, fertilized and trimmed. I think it necessary for parents to pl
an their children’s leisure time properly. Children are still too young to know
what is good or bad. On the other hand, parents should not control their childre
n too tightly and always exact them the standards of adults. And it’s also harmf
ul for parents to spoil their children too much, allowing them to do whatever th

for parents to help shape their children’s character. But I think, with love and
understanding, nothing can be too hard.
【模拟训练参考作文47Students Should Be Encouraged to Take Partti
me Jobs
With the economic development of our country, more and more university stu
dents are engaged in the activities of doing parttime jobs. People wonder whet
h
er it is good or bad for students to do so. For my part, it does more good than
harm.
It goes without saying that working parttime in school has many advantage
s.
Who swims in sin shall sink in sorrow.
在罪恶中游泳,必将在悲哀中沉没。
First, Students who have parttime jobs can relieve, to some extent, the econ
omic burdens of their parents. And with the money they have earned, they can buy
many books they like. What’s more, being able to earn money with their efforts
alone gives them a feeling that they’ve become adults and, therefore, makes them
feel maturer. Besides, afterschool work teaches students how hard it is to ea
rn money and helps develop thriftiness in the young generation.
Second, parttime jobs offer them opportunities to demonstrate their ability an
d apply what they have learnt in class and books. Work experience will be of gre
at help to their future career.
Third, parttime jobs give students a feeling of achievement through contributi
n
g to the national construction. And this will motivate them to work harder in th
eir studies.
On the other hand, parttime jobs have some disadvantages if students fail to s
t
rike the balance between their study and parttime jobs. Some students who have
parttime jobs have shown decline in their studies. Some may spend their money
on smoking, drinking, etc.
When riches increase, the body decreases.
终生只恨积蓄少,待到多时眼闭了。
Whether taking parttime jobs is good or bad just depends on whether you can st
r
ike a balance between your study and work. In my opinion, despite these unfavora
ble effects, in order to benefit both students and society, we should encourage
them to take parttime jobs. Problems can be avoided if they are given some adv
i
ce on how to choose appropriate jobs and they should regard their study as their
main task.
【模拟训练参考作文48Physical Exercise Should Bea Required Part
of Every School Day
People have different ideas about how students should spend their school d
ays. Some believe that students should spend the whole day on academic studies.
Others believe that physical exercise should be a required part of every school
day. I think both ways have their advantages. But I prefer the latter.
As a student, our main task is to concentrate on our academic study. We ha
ve to attend classes, reading books and doing assignments. Only by working hard
can we learn our courses well. But I don’t think we should spend every hour and
minute on academic study. A proverb says “ All work and no play makes Jack a du
l
l boy.” Without good health and strong body, how can we improve our study effi
cien
cy and make great achievements in our academic study?Besides, spending the whole
day on academic study may make us exhausted
and weak. We should find other meaningful things to do besides studying. For exa
mple, doing physical exercise can make students’ life more colorful and benefici
al. There are various forms of exercise. My favorite one is football. I play foo
tball with my classmates for one hour every afternoon. After a day’s hard work,
how nice it is to stretch my arms and legs! By playing football I’ve got both jo
y and strength. I always look energetic.
Actually doing physical exercise doesn’t disturb our study if we make full
use of our time. Instead it does help us study more efficiently. We can be good
at learning as well as physical exercise. So I suggest that students do physica
l exercise along with their academic studies.

With the rapid development of economy, water pollution has become a serious prob

and lakes in our country are getting polluted. A large amount of trash and harmf
ul chemicals from factories and garbage from cities are pouring into rivers, lak
es and seas every day. These things kill fish and make water unsafe to drink. Wa
ter pollution is threatening human existence on the earth.
There are some suggested solutions to this problem. First of all, I think people
should be made to realize the importance of water without which we cannot keep
our life going on. Everyone should show some concern over this problem. Second,
laws should be established to prohibit anyone from sending poisonous waste or da
ngerous liquids into rivers, lakes or seas. Those who violate the law should be
punished severely. Besides, more trees should be planted especially along rivers
to keep soil from flowing into them.
In recent years, governments in many regions have been taking various measures t
o stop the fresh water from being further polluted. Some progress has been made,
yet the problem still remains serious. I believe this problem will be solved on
ly if all people are aware of the urgency to deal with it and to seek better sol

polluted water clean again.

In recent years, some married couples choose to remain childless. Most peo

onable for some married people not to have children due to the rapid social deve

It is believed that a childless family has the following advantages. First
, married couples without children have more opportunities to find jobs. With co

employees who have no family burden and can concentrate their attention on thei

However, married couples without children may lack the joy brought by chil

To sum up, married couples can live a happier life than parents. Therefore

【模拟训练参考作文51Private Cars Should Not Be Encouraged.
The number of private cars is on the rise in our country. Some people thin
k that private cars should be encouraged. Others argue that private cars should
not be encouraged. I think that too many private cars may create endless problem
s though they bring much convenience and comfort.
First, cars often produce air pollution and fill the cities with unbearabl
e noises. Second, Most of the important cities in the world suffer from traffic
congestion. In fact any advantage gained in comfort is often cancelled out in ci
ty by the frustration caused by traffic jams, endless queues of cars crawling bu

ill not only cost you a fortune, but also bring you all kinds of trouble: gettin

All over the world thousands upon thousands of people are killed or injured ever
y year. Traffic accidents caused by cars not only bring deaths and injury, but a
lso make people suffer mentally and physically. In addition, our country has a v

Therefore, I think the number of private cars should be limited. We should try t

【模拟训练参考作文52On Unpunctualness
[ST][WT5BZ〗〖HTK〗
Wisdom in the mind is better than money in the hand.
胸中有知识,胜于手中有金钱。
A punctual person is in the habit of doing something at the exact time arr
anged beforehand, and is never late in keeping an appointment. An unpunctual per
son, on the other hand, never does what he has to do at the proper time. He is a
lways in a hurry and in the end loses both time and trust.
As a proverb says, “Time flies never to be recalled.” This is true. If
we lose something, we may find it again. But lost time can never be regained. In
fact, time itself is life. So wasting others’ time is the same as taking away t
ime from others’ life.
Failure to be punctual in keeping one’s appointment is a sign of disrespect towa
rd others. If a person is invited to a dinner and arrives later than the appoint
ed time, he keeps all the other guests waiting. This is a great discourtesy towa
rd both the guests and the host.
Unpunctuality, moreover, is very harmful to one’s duty. Imagine how it would be
if those who are entrusted with important tasks fail to be at the right place at
the appointed time. A man known to be habitually unpunctual is seldom trusted b

【模拟训练参考作文53Reading Selectively or Extensively
Different people have different views on reading. Some believe that reading sele
ctively is more beneficial. They have several reasons for this. First, as countl
ess books are published each year due to the development of science and technolo
gy, one’s time and energy do not allow them to read all of them. Second, it is u
n
necessary for one to read so many books which neither interest them nor have any
thing to do with their work. Besides, reading selectively may enable one to focu
s on books related to their aim or work. What’s more, there are many bad or misl
eading books harmful to people’s minds. Therefore such books should be avoided.
On the other hand, others insist that reading extensively does more good.
They say in an age of knowledge explosion, only by reading extensively can one k
eep himself wellinformed. Secondly, a widelyread man usually possesses more
wi
sdom. Thirdly, a variety of books can surely broaden one’s vision, enrich one’s
experience and make one’s life more colorful.
Wise men learn by other men’s mistakes, while fools by their own.
聪明人从别人的错误中吸取教训,愚蠢人则从自身错误中吸取教训。
It is obvious that both reading selectively and extensively have their advantage
s. I think books should be classified into two classes: books to be read selecti

It is generally believed that smoking is extremely harmful to the health.
There are great many cigarette smokers especially among young people in our coun

First of all, smokers should be convinced of the great harm done to the health o

respiratory system. Scientists have confirmed that smoking is the main cause of
lung cancer. The World Health Organization declares diseases linked to smoking
kill at least 2,500,000 people each year. Researchers say that pregnant women sm

d gentle murdering. In addition, smoking pollutes the air. Therefore smokers the

Second, smokers should be aware that it is impolite and immoral to smoke in publ

Third, governments should take some measures to prohibit smoking in public place

The abovementioned measures may guarantee fruitful result if taken properly.

Different people have different opinions about how to be a good student. A
s for me, a good student should be measured in terms of at least three basic qua

First, a good student should be diligent in his study. He should spend mor

student should have the virtues of honesty, kindness, and a sense of responsibi

of these virtues, our society would be in terrible disorder. Third, good health
is essential for a good student. Anyone without good health can hardly achieve

In brief, a good student should possess the above three qualities no matte

【模拟训练参考作文56My View on Homestay Program
A foreign student who plans to go to the United States must have some defi
nite goals in mind. For the student who wants to improve his English quickly and
learn about American customs firsthand, it may be favorable for him to live wit
h an American family. There may be one or two disadvantages to this arrangement;
however, I believe that there are far more advantages.
First of all, some minor disadvantages to living with an American family i
nclude both a lack of privacy and little opportunity to be independent. For exam
ple, the student may find that the family expects him to join them in group acti
vities such as watching television and going on picnics. At times, however, he m

ends. Another drawback involves the possibility that the family may treat the st
udent like a child. For instance, the parents may want to decide who his friends
will be and where he will go during his leisure time away from home.
However, the advantages far outweigh the disadvantages. By taking part in
a homestay program, the student has an excellent opportunity to learn about Amer
ican customs. He will find out how to behave in different social situations such
as parties and ceremonies and how to dress on these occasions. Also, he will le

s are run in the United States. With a family close by, he can ask questions abo
ut attendance rules and school costs. The family will make sure that he becomes
acquainted with this new way of life, and soon he will feel at home.
Another advantage is that the student is in an ideal environment to improv
e his English. For example, each time he has a conversation with someone in the
family, this native speaker can help him with his pronunciation and grammar. May
be the children in the family can help him with his homework, too. But the most
important thing is that he will be surrounded by English most of the time during
his stay in the US.
Although I agree that there may be a couple of disadvantages to living wit
h an American family, I feel that the advantages are more obvious. In a homestay
program, the student can learn about American customs in the most natural way p
ossible. In addition, he will find himself in an atmosphere in which his English
will certainly improve. In my opinion, these are the two most important goals f
or him to consider, and living with an American family is the best way to achiev

The telephone has been the most popular and convenient means of communication. E

Telephones have been useful in many ways. First, by dialing the number, people c
an obtain and send information immediately. In modern times when time is money,
people need timely information for their private or business matters, the teleph

the most common and most important device. If you want to make an appointment w

However, a telephone may be troublesome. Just imagine you are sleeping soundly w

It is true that nowadays most people spend their evenings watching TV a

get some information. Obviously television plays an important role in our daily
life.
First of all, television widens our horizon. There are various TV programs
concerning the worldwide affairs. For instance, the program The World of Anim

.
Second, there are many programs for entertaining. After a day of hard work
, people usually turn on TV to watch some entertaining programs only to get rela

Furthermore, as a convenient communicational tool, TV programs help people
in the areas of social work, education, advertisements and so on. People can re

But on the other hand, there are some complaints about television. For exa

In my opinion, we should spend our spare time sensibly only on some progra

by watching TV long at a time. Third, children become passive viewers. It cuts c

often exposed to scenes of violence and sex. They may come to regard them as a

which may lead to juvenile delinquency.
Therefore, due to so much unfavorable impact of television on children, pa

Some students spend much of their free time on recreation. Others focus much on
their studies even in their spare time. It seems to me that the most urgent task
for us is to make full use of our college days on study. People often say that
time is money. But in my opinion, time is even more precious than money. Why? Be
cause when money is spent, we can earn it back. However, when time is gone, it w
ill never return. This is the reason why we must value time.
It goes without saying that we should spend our precious time on study. So
, even every minute of our four years here at the university is extremely import
ant. For young people, time appears especially precious, for youth is the best t

Only by learning and developing the skills we need can we brave the fierce comp

our study. But it is a great pity that many students ignore the importance of ti

In a word, we have every reason to spend most of our time on study. Only i

people’s living standards. But some people dislike them. I think the motorcy

Its advantages are, that first of all, it is not so expensive as a car, bu

is more, traffic jam has no effect on motorcycles.
However, due to its high speed, a motorcycle is more likely to cause a ser

Besides, it produces loud noises and pollutes the air compared with bikes.

In recent years, tourism has become a boom industry in our country. People are t

. I think there are good reasons for the development of tourism in our country.
First, obviously it enhances the development of hotels and shopping facilities,
which, in turn, creates jobs for local people. It also creates a large market fo

. As a result, it brings prosperity to the regions.
Second, the arrival of visitors always results in the improvements in the local
transportation devices such as airports, railroads, roads and docks. The local g

Finally, tourism is an important way to promote international understanding and

With the rich touring resources in our country and the obvious advantages of tou

most of all, they help prevent drought and floods.
Unfortunately, in many parts of the world, people have not realized the importan

in large numbers. As a result, man has lost his faithful friends. Disafforestat

While it is true that a successful businessperson or inventor will usually

Besides, money as the only yardstick of success may be misleading. It may
