Hearing this, one of Roosevelt’s friends wrote to him and advised him not to take it to his   21  so much. President Roosevelt wrote back immediately, saying,” Dear friend, thank you for your letter to   22  me. I’m all right now. I think I should thank God. This is because of the following three reasons: firstly, the thief only stole things from me but did not   23  me at all; secondly, the thief has stolen some of my things   24  all my things; thirdly, most luckily for me, it was the man   25  me who became a thief…”   It was quite unlucky for anyone to be stolen from…. However, President Roosevelt had such three reasons to be so   26  . This story tells us how we can learn to be grateful in our life.   Being grateful is an important philosophy of life and a great wisdom…. It is impossible for anyone to be lucky and successful all the time   27  he lives in the world. We should learn how to face failure or misfortune bravely and   28  and to try to deal with it. If so, should we complain about our life and become   29  and disappointed ever since then or should we be grateful for our life,   30  again ourselves after a fall? William Thackeray, a famous British writer, said, “Life is a mirror. When you smile in front of it, it will also smile and   31  will it when you cry to it.” If you are grateful to life, it will bring you shining sunlight. If you always complain about everything, you may own   32  in the end. When we are successful, we can   33  have many reasons for being grateful, but we have only one excuse to show ungratefulness if we fail.   I think we should even be grateful to life   34  we are unsuccessful or unlucky. Only by doing this can we find our weakness and shortcomings when we fail. We can also get   35  and warmth when we are unlucky. This can help us find our courage to overcome the difficulties we may face, and receive great impetus (动力) to   36  . We should treat our frustration and misfortune in our life  37  just as President Roosevelt did. We should be grateful all the time and keep having a healthy  38  to our life forever, keep having perfect characters and enterprising spirit. Being grateful is not only a kind of comfort, not   39  from life and nor thinking of winning in spirit like Ah Q. Being grateful is a way to sing for our life which comes just from our love and 40  . 21. A. mind            B. heart              C. head                D. nerve 22. The doctors had given us the worst of news. Our daughter, who had just completed her first brain surgery to remove a tumor (肿瘤) and was going through radiation treatment, was now officially given a two percent chance of survival as this type of cancer had no cure.     My wife and I decided to take our daughter to lunch before continuing our afternoon conversation. We went to a local restaurant where we sat in silence waiting for the waitress. I noticed a very elderly couple sitting a few booths away, who were also in silence and did not speak a word. I couldn’t help but wonder what challenges they had faced in their life and if they ever faced such terrible news about a child of theirs. We eventually ordered our lunch and still sitting in silence we ate what we could. At some point I became intrigued by the old couple. I thought to myself that they hadn’t yet spoken to each other and I wondered if it was the peace they were enjoying or the food or maybe both. However, at some point I lost interest and put my focus back on my lunch.     Molly was still talking away and enjoying her meal. Her mom and I both listened and tried to be happy in her presence but it wasn’t going very well. All of a sudden I saw a hand come out of nowhere. It was huge and I could tell that it had been afflicted with arthritis (关节炎). I couldn’t take my eyes off that hand. It landed on my daughter’s tiny six-year-old hand and as it did I looked up; it was the old woman who had been sitting with the old man in silence eating their lunch.     I looked into her eyes and she spoke, but not to me. She looked at my daughter and simply whispered, “If I could do more for you I would…” and then she smiled and moved away to join her husband, who had moved towards the door.     “Look, a whole dollar,” Molly spoke with excitement as she discovered a crumpled one dollar bill left behind by the old lady. I looked up to thank her, but she was gone. I sat stunned, not sure what had just happened and then I looked over at my wife. In almost unison(一致), we broke out into a smile. The sadness of the day had been wiped out by the crippled hand and generous touch of the old lady. The dollar, although exciting to Molly, was not what made us smile; it was the offer from the old lady, who felt our suffering. The crippled hand symbolized a healing touch and made us realize that we did not have to fight this battle alone. 41. The author was _______, when he first caught sight of the old couple in the restaurant.     A. curious          B. confused          C. upset              D. indifferent 42. By saying “If I could do more for you I would…”, the old woman means_______.   A. she had the ability to cure the disease of Molly   B. she had the responsibility for the safety of Molly   C. she was an old friend of the author and can lend some money to them   D. she would like to help Molly as much as possible 43. What can we inferred from the passage?   A. The author and his wife were not satisfied with the food in the restaurant.   B. The old couple had once gone through the same trouble as the author did.   C. The one dollar bill made the author feel touched by the warmth from others.   D. The old woman sympathized with Molly because she suffered from serious arthritis herself. 44. What would be the best title of the text?   A. A girl with cancer                    B. A touch of heaven   C. A crippled hand                        D. A kind-hearted couple                       B     Third generation mobile phones, known as 3G, are the next big step for the telecom industry. Data speed in 3G networks is much quicker than present technology. This means users can have high speed Internet access and enjoy video and CD quality music on their phones.   “Mobile data is not a dream; it's not an option but a requirement.” said Len Lauer, head of a US communications company,Sprint PCS,at a 3G conference in Bangkok earlier this month. With 3G, you can forget about text messages telling you yesterday's news; a 3G phone can receive video news programs, updated four times a day. Internet access will also be much quicker, making it easier to surf the Web on your phone than on your computer at home.   Face to face video calls   And don't worry about getting lost. 3G phones offer map services so you can find a new restaurant just by pressing a few keys on your handset.   However, the most impressive part of 3G technology is video calling. With live two??day video communication, you can have face??to??face talks with friends and family on your mobile phone.     Many European countries have already launched the service. In May 2000 the US Government issued five licenses to run 3G wireless services, while the first 3G phones arrived in Italy in March this year.   International telecom companies can't wait to sell 3G in China, the world's largest mobile telecommunications market. But they will have to be patient. At the moment, China is busy testing its 3G??based technologies, networks and services. This will be followed by a trial period before the phones can finally hit the shops.   “We need to create a pool of 3G customers before the large scale commercial launch of the service.” said Fan Yunjun, marketing manager for Beijing Mobile. “We expect that the 3G licenses will be issued late next year. ” 45. With 3G, you can do the following EXCEPT ________.   A. find your way easily          B. learn what's going on in the world   C. make your computer run faster  D. make face??to??face video telephone calls 46. According to the text, which function of the following makes 3G technology most              extraordinary?   A. It can provide video news programs, updated four times a day.   B. Users can have face??to??face talks with friends and family on their mobile phones.   C. Users can enjoy video and CD??quality music on their phones.   D. It'll be easier for users to surf the Web on their phone than on their computers at home. 47. Which of the following is true according to the passage?   A. 3G mobile phones were first used in America.   B. Foreign telecom companies won't enter China.   C. 3G technology is now at the commercial stage in China.   D. Users in China won't probably use 3G mobile phones until late next year. 48. What does Len Lauer want to inform the readers?     A. Realizing the dream of mobile data based on the application of 3G is a must. B. There is no need to send messages since 3G can receive video news programs. C. 3G is supposed to own all the functions that a computer has. D. It is a choice to carry mobile data with 3G phones.                             C     The traditional distinction between products that satisfy needs and those satisfy wants is no longer adequate to describe classes of products. In today’s prosperous societies, the distinction has become unclear because so many wants have been turned into needs. A writer, for instance, can work with paper and pencils. These are legal needs for the task. But the work can be done more quickly and efficiently with a word processor. Thus a computer is soon viewed as a need rather than a want.     In the field of marketing, consumer goods are classed according to the way in which they are purchased. The two main classes are convenience goods and shopping goods. Two lesser types are specialty goods and unsought(主动提供的) goods. It must be emphasized that all of these types are based on the way shoppers think about products, not on the nature of the products themselves. What is regarded as a convenience item in France (wine, for example) should be a specialty goods in the United States.     People do not spend a great deal of time shopping for such convenience items as groceries, newspapers, toothpaste, aspirin, and candy. The buying of convenience goods may be done routinely, as some families buy groceries once a week. Such regularly purchased items are called staples. Sometimes convenience products are bought without enough thinking; someone has a sudden desire for an ice cream sundae(圣代) on a hot day. Or they may be purchased as emergency items.     Shopping goods are items for which customers search. They compare prices, quality, and styles, and may visit a number of stores before making a decision. Buying an automobile is often done this way.     Shopping goods fall into two classes; those that are recognized as basically the same and those that are regarded as different. Items that are looked upon as basically the same include such things as home appliances, television sets, and automobiles. Having decided on the model desired, the customer is primarily interested in getting the item at the most favorable price. Items regarded as essentially different include clothing, furniture, and dishes. Quality, style and fashion will either take precedence(优先) over price, or they will not matter at all. 49. It can be learned from the first paragraph that ______.     A. a writer needs a word processor     B. needs and wants can’t be separated clearly     C. the way to distinguish the products is unimportant     D. a computer is a need rather than a want 50. The example of wine is used to illustrate that ______.     A. goods are classified differently in different countries     B. the types of the product lie on the people rather than its nature     C. Frenchmen often drink but Americans sometimes do     D. one product may belong to many types 51. Staples are items that ______.     A. are convenient to purchase     B. are purchased without enough thinking     C. people “want but don’t need”     D. people are in constant need of 52. Shopping goods that are considered as basically the same are those that ______.     A. consumers don’t care where to buy them     B. consumers spend much time searching for     C. satisfy similar needs of the consumer     D. can be found in nearly every shop                               D     During recent years, floods and flash floods have caused billions of dollars in damage. They are among the most common and widespread of all natural disasters. Even more importantly, they’re the No. 1 weather-related killer. A food can happen anywhere along the Mississippi, in New England, even in the desert.    The following are some fascinating facts about floods and flash floods.  A flood (commonly called a river flood) is the high flow of water from a river of similar body of water, happening over a period of time too long to be considered a flash flood. Flooding is caused in many ways. Winter or spring rains, together with melting snows, can fill rivers too quickly. Heavy rains from hurricanes or other tropical systems can also produce river flooding. The Mississippi River Flood of 1993 was caused by repeated heavy rain from thunderstorms over a period of weeks.      Flash floods are quickly-rising floods which are usually the result of heavy rains over a short period of time, often only several hours or even less. They can also be caused by ice jams (冰塞) on rivers related to a winter or spring melting, or occasionally even a dam break. The constant influx (汇集) of water finally causes a great overflow to begin, powerful enough to sweep vehicles away, roll big stones into roadways, uproot trees, level buildings, and knock bridge down. The speed of the rising of water is the most frightening thing.      Remember: Move to higher ground and stay away from low areas during heavy rain. Stay out of flooded areas. Never allow children to play or walk in flowing water. Never drive your car into water of unknown depths. 53. What is the best title for the passage?     A. Power of floods                   B. Damage of floods    C. When floods happen                 D. Facts about floods 54. Which of the following statements is NOT the reason for the occurrence of flash  floods?     A. Heavy rains                   B. Ice jams    C. Dam breaks                   D. Ground water rising 55. According to the passage, people are most afraid of ____ during flash floods.     A. the constant influx of water   B. the sudden occurrence of flash floods C. the quick rising water       D. the great damage of flash floods 56. We can learn from the passage that ____.     A. flash floods are a kind of river flood   B. a river flood can be a flash flood     C. flash floods are different from river floods D. prevention measures are different for floods and flash floods. E     Nuclear energy has always been controversial. But since the tsunami and nuclear disaster in Fukushima (Japan) last year the issue is back in the headlines. And the world is divided— some countries are planning more nuclear plants, while others have promised to shut theirs down.     After Fukushima, Germany decided to switch off all its nuclear plants by 2022. Switzerland and Italy are also phasing out nuclear power. But France and the United States remain staunch supporters of atomic energy. In fact, almost 80% of France’s electricity comes from nuclear power, the highest percentage in the world. And in the US, the Obama administration said it “continues to support the expansion of nuclear power, despite the crisis in Japan.”     Nuclear supporters claim nuclear power can help the environment. Unlike fossil fuels, nuclear power doesn’t create greenhouse gases. So, pro-nuclear countries argue that nuclear power allows them to generate energy without contributing to climate change. Britain’s chief scientific adviser (John Beddington) supports this view. He recently said that the world doesn’t have the luxury of ignoring nuclear energy.     Nuclear power is also relatively cheap. Renewable energy sources such as solar, hydro and wind power may be clean, but they’re expensive; and right now, they require a lot of investment. This higher cost of using “green energy” is usually passed onto the consumer. So, while many people may prefer their energy to come from a renewable source, not so many are prepared to pay higher energy bills. This is of particular concern while the world economy is in such bad shape.     The main argument against nuclear energy is that it isn’t safe. For a start, nuclear waste is very difficult to dispose of, and remains toxic to humans for thousands of years. And even before Fukushima, there were several high-profile nuclear disasters. The most famous is probably the 1986 Chernobyl disaster, in the Ukraine. The radiation from the meltdown spread all over Europe, affecting thousands.     The nuclear energy issue is very complex. And it doesn’t look like it’ll be resolved anytime soon. As a Japanese commentator recently said, “it’s been a bad year for the ‘nuclear village’, but I don’t think they’re down and out yet.” The battle continues. 57. Which of the following may NOT be the advantage of nuclear energy over other energy        sources?   A. Nuclear energy doesn’t produce any greenhouse gases.   B. Nuclear energy can help prevent the climate damage.   C. Nuclear energy is more environmental-friendly than other green energy sources.   D. Nuclear energy can save the consumers some money, compared to other renewable            energies. 58. What does the underlined word “this” refer to in paragraph 4?   A. The fact that many people prefer to use the green energy sources while unwilling to pay higher bill.   B. The cost of using renewable sources   C. The fact that the nuclear power is cheaper.   D. The investment of renewable energy sources 59. We can learn from the last paragraph that _______.   A. the Japanese commentator is positive about the future of nuclear energy   B. the nuclear energy issue will be soon settled   C. a battle will break out in the future   D. Japan is considering to build a nuclear village in the future 60. What is the author’s purpose of writing the passage?   A. To highlight the danger of using nuclear energy.   B. To introduce some serious nuclear disasters.   C. To show the argument between nuclear supporters and protesters.   D. To give some advice on how to use nuclear energy safely. 第二节 补全对话(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分) 根据对话内容,从对话后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Policeman:Now, Jimmy, did you get a good view of the accident?
