Online education will never replace traditional universities I think some of you guys may have one or two online elective course on Erya, right? I still remember that many of classmates watched several online course videos in one or two day to make up the lessons they hadn’t watched before the last term’s final examination.
It has been a fact that online courses are subjected to our study in nowadays college. And we are getting used to regard them as a tool to learn something we want but cannot be satisfied in real class. I want to share some data with you that more than 10 million people have registered MOOC in 2016 and the number will be bigger and bigger. Under this circumstance, some experts or some pioneer said that online education will replace traditional universities some day in the future. While I hold the view that online education genuinely did a great impact on traditional education, but it will never replace it.
The first point I want to bring out is that education in universities is more inclined to be a transition of your life. In university, you are partially independent and finally almost all the decisions you have to make by yourself strengthen you to be a grown-up as fast as possible. The second point is that traditional education has the advantages in communication whether with your classmates or teachers. We always say that good education is to guide ways and refine souls. And these things which can show men’s care and spiritual strength are better transferred by face-to-face talk rather than online class. Some may say that is too absolute, communication can also be made by online video calls. But please imagine that while you group is debating on a topic, but a guy’s words are discontinuous. Suddenly he shouted I don’t have a good WIFI here, maybe next time then quitted. That must be both helpless and depressed.
On account of time is limited. Those are two of the reasons to support my opinion that online education will never replace traditional universities. I think education in future’s universities might be a combination of online class and traditional class.
