风雨哈佛路影评 1 After we finished the final exam, i saw a film at school called "Homeless To Harvard". It's a inspiration film which is based on an autobiography called "Breaking Night", it's written by Liz Murray. It's about a miserable girl, both her parents take drugs, she became a beggar when she was only 8 years old. When she was 15, her mother died because of AIDs. When she was 17, she spent two years to finish four-year course, then she got the scholarship from New York Times and went into Harvard. The director is Peter Levin. The film stars Thora Birch as Liz Murray and it's set in America.i think it's a good film because the storyline is excellent and the soundtrack is fantastic as well. Also the lines in this film are brillient. Like "I knew at that moment I had to make a choice. I could submit to everything that was happening and live a life of excuses... or I could push myself. I could push myself and make my life good.". So, if you want to be successful, you must struggle form the goal you have made, and also, sometimes you need to be lucky. I think Liz is lucky, because she met that principle when she was in the school, and that principle gave her a chance. Without that chance, she might can't go into Harvard. Every successful person have one very important person to help him/her, or change him/her, and for Liz, i think that important person is that principle. 2 Film review: Homeless To Harvard Homeless to Harvard: The Liz Murray Story is an American TV film directed by Peter Levin. It was first released on April 7, 2003 in the United States. This movie is adapted from Liz Murray's autobiography, Breaking Night. Main actors are Thora Birch, Michael Riley, Robert Bockstael, Makyla Smith, Kelly Lynch. This film was edited by Ronni Kern and its music was done by Louis Febre. Thora Birch stars as Liz Murray who was born in American slums. Liz Murray is the daughter of an extremely dysfunctional Bronx family and her parents are drug-addicted, alcoholics and her mother has mental disease. As a girl, she need beg out to look for food. When Liz was 15, her mother died of HIV and she became homeless. Life suffering seems endless. As slowly growing, Liz knew only success can change her fate. She got an examination paper from a teacher and finished greatly. Then she got the opportunity to study and began her work to finish high school. At last, Liz became a star student and earned a scholarship to Harvard University through an essay contest sponsored by the New York Times. This film didn’t cost much money, but in fact those who saw the film would say this is the most moving film. Director deduced a true story in which a girl overcame adverse conditions and paid efforts to be succeeded. In the film Liz told us no matter how difficult the situation was, we must cheer up and work with perseverance. Only in the dark sky, we could look up to see the stars in the sky. Liz is a strong person. She never get lost, even though she lived by herself, her father and her mother died, and had no decent clothes when interview. Nothing could get worse, but she was still surviving in the environment. In her life, struggle is the eternal theme. 3 Generally, made for television movies are on a level below theatrical endeavors. However, `Homeless To Harvard' is a surprising and welcome exception. Without question it is one of the best made for television movies ever produced. This true story of Liz Murray continually strikes your primal emotional chord throughout the movie. The story is told in a stark realistically convincing manner. Excellent performances are turned in by Jennifer Pisana and Thora Birch as Liz at slightly different ages and by Kelly Lynch as Liz's alcoholic and drug addicted mother Jean. Unfortunately, the world has an ample supply of dysfunctional parents. Most often, their own children use them as an excuse to be equally dysfunctional. How uplifting to have a child use their parent's dysfunctional behavior, not as an excuse to sink into oblivion, but rather as a reason to not follow in their footsteps. This movie is all about choices. Anyone of any age who watches this movie will be left with absolutely no excuse to wallow in self pity. While this movie is a remarkable endeavor, it could have been even better. Understandably you can only fit so much content into a movie. Moreover, I'm certain that the writers included all of the key elements of Liz's life. However, this movie would have stood in a class by itself if only they had delved into Liz's true character. They did an exceptional job of depicting the decadent life that she was subject to, her reactions to it, and her existence within it. However, you don't get to see inside of Liz to actually know what she's all about. In addition, I sensed that we were shown a slightly whitewashed portrait of Liz in contrast to her true self. I suspect that she was in fact a little less innocent and a little more tarnished and troublesome than she was portrayed to be. If there's one unanswered question lingering on viewer's minds, it has to be: Why, after overcoming such insurmountable adversity, did she end up leaving Harvard? All that aside, 'Homeless To Harvard' is truly a triumph of the human spirit movie. This will be a treasured prize for your DVD/VHS collection when it becomes available
