2014 Spring Wildflower Pilgrimage Photography Contest Rules
Entry is open to everyone. Entries are limited to two per category per person, with a maximum of six images entered per adult, eight images entered per youth.
Entry Categories:
Flora (flowers, trees, shrubs, & other plant life), Fauna (insects, animals), Landscape, and Youth Produced (must be applicable to Flora, Fauna or Landscape and produced by a photographer who has not reached 18 years of age at time of entry.) People or pets may be in the photographs, but must not be the predominant subject of the image. Studio images will not be accepted.
Entry Deadline
Entries must be mailed or hand-delivered to (and received by) Gatlinburg Special Events Office at 811 East Parkway, Gatlinburg, TN 37738 by April 11, 2014. Entries can be hand-delivered Monday through Friday, 8:30a.m. - 5:00p.m., with any last-day entries hand-delivered to the event site at W.H. Mills Conference Center on Historic Nature Center Trail, Gatlinburg. For more information please contact Darrell Manis by calling 865-436-1127.
Judging will be by Pilgrim’s Choice votes. Ribbons will be placed on the winning photographs Friday, April 18, when the winners are announced on the stage in Ballroom A-B. Photos must be picked up before noon on Saturday, April 19th, at Mills Conference Center. Entries can not be returned by mail.
Spring Wildflower Pilgrimage Photography Contest officials reserve the right to refuse any entry.
Photographer retains all ownership rights to any image entered, but grants the Spring Wildflower Pilgrimage the right to use without charge any entry for the purpose of promoting the event as outlined in the Release by Photographer clause of the Contest Rules.
Photos submitted should be a minimum of 8”x10” and a maximum of 11”x 17”, mounted on photo mounting board or Foam Core. No frames, glass or other covering will be accepted. Matting is accepted, but should be tasteful and within reasonable proportion to the image size - no more than two inches larger in any direction. Each entry must have several strips of Velcro tape (hook side) affixed to the back surface of the mounting board sufficient for hanging.Each entry must have the photographer’s name and contact information (address, phone numbers, email address) affixed to the back surface of the mounting board. The word “TOP” and a directional arrow must be located on the back surface of the mounting board to indicate the display orientation of each entry.
A digital copy of each entry is required. Format of digital files must be jpeg and files should be submitted on compact disc. If more than one image is being entered, all entries may be included on one disc. Contact information for person submitting entry must be written or printed on label side of disc.
Photos must be picked up on the assigned pickup date. Spring Wildflower Pilgrimage cannot assume responsibility for photographs not picked up on assigned date.
Prizes for First, Second, and Third places, along with one Honorable Mention for each category will consist of a ribbon for each winner. All winners will be selected by popular vote. A panel of judges will be convened to oversee vote counts and to break any ties. Decisions of judges will be final.
Photographs must be taken within Great Smoky Mountains National Park or the counties bordering the park.
There are no restrictions on who can enter the Photo Contest. Employees of National Park
Service and City of Gatlinburg may enter. Amateur and professional photographers are welcome.
Entrants, if under 18, must have a signed permission form from his/her parent or legal guardian.
By submitting your photograph to the Spring Wildflower Pilgrimage photo contest, you agree to
the following:
Release by the Photographer
You certify that you are the person who took the photograph(s) submitted here, that you own the
copyrights to the photographs and that you have the authority to enter into this release:
You release Spring Wildflower Pilgrimage from any liability whatsoever that arises from the use of
the photographs except for uses that violate the terms and conditions of this release. You agree
to work in good faith with Spring Wildflower Pilgrimage to promptly resolve any problems or
disputes that may arise due to your submission of the photographs.By entering your photographs in the Spring Wildflower Pilgrimage Photo Contest, you grant
Spring Wildflower Pilgrimage the royalty-free and non-exclusive right to use your photographs as
follows: (i) on the Spring Wildflower Pilgrimage website (ii) for Spring Wildflower Pilgrimage
posters, brochures and activity guides (iii) in Spring Wildflower Pilgrimage electronic emails (iv)
and in other internal or external marketing materials or media coordinated by the Spring
Wildflower Pilgrimage. You further waive the right to inspect or approve the final use of your
photographs by Spring Wildflower Pilgrimage.
You understand that Spring Wildflower Pilgrimage will request additional permission from you
before using your photographs for purposes other than listed above.You will give Spring Wildflower Pilgrimage all copyright information for your photograph so that
Spring Wildflower Pilgrimage can include the proper credit for published photographs.
Minor digital enhancement for cropping, red-eye removal, filters, corrective functions and
legitimate manipulations such as burning and dodging, brightness and contrast, color
adjustments, saturation, stitching and cropping are permitted. In cases where a photograph is
considered to be “digital art”, the image may not be considered. Entrants are not permitted to
place borders or frames around their images, or place watermarks, signatures, dates or copyright
notices on their images.
Photographs entered by National Park Service or City of Gatlinburg employees, specifically
photographs taken at the employee’s place of work, must be taken while off-duty and with their
own personal equipment.
Although all due diligence will be exercised by Spring Wildflower Pilgrimage staff and volunteers
to prevent damage or loss of any entry, Spring Wildflower Pilgrimage can assume no liability for
damage or loss resulting from entering this contest.
Parental Release: Photographs with likenesses of children (when recognizable in the image)
must have a written and signed consent by a parent or legal guardian of the child or children
attached to the submission.
Model/Portrait Release: Photographs with likenesses of adults (when recognizable in the image)
must have a written and signed consent form attached to the submission. Entries that fail to comply with the rules will be disqualified. Spring Wildflower Pilgrimage reserves the right to change the Contest Rules as necessary.
