Maer Mountain Scenic Area Introduction Located in the southeast of Yaoqian Subdistrict, Sujiatun District, Maer Mountain Scenic Area has a total planning area of 9190 mu with a core area of 630 mu. The traffic is convenient. Six main traffic lines, four vertical and two horizontal are crossing the scenic area, including Shenyang-Dalian Highway, Shenyang-Dandong Highway, Shenyang-Yingkou Highway, Shenyang-Benxi Industry Avenue, Tourism Industry Avenue, Shenshi Highway. Maer Mountain Scenic Area is 15km from Taoxian International Airport and 30km (20 minutes’drive) from downtown Shenyang. Maer Mountain is the extension of Qianshan Mountain Range. It is grand and magnificent with peaks rising one after another. Double peaks stand side by side on the summit which look like horse’s ears. And so the mountain was named Maer Mountain (Maer means horse’s ears). Its main peak is the highest peak in southern Shenyang, with an altitude of 330.8 meters; its second highest peak has an altitude of 300 meters. Maer Mountain Scenic Area is covered with flourishing pines and cypresses. It has the forest coverage rate of 73% and green coverage rate of 85%. Walking down the winding trail, visitors may enjoy the ever-changing scenery of a rare beauty. There is a water area of more than 300 mu with different varieties and large quantity of wild and cultured fish. There are naturally formed stone figure and horse, dolmen, sarcophagus, Chaoyang Cave, Shady Cave, Tiger Cave, Fortune Peak, Horseback Peak, Dingdong Spring, Moon Lake and so on. There are also historical relics of beacon tower and Medicine King’s Temple. All of these scenic spots constitute a natural ecological landscape painting. After years of development, the fruit & vegetable picking area is known far and wide with an area of 6000 mu and more than 30 varieties of fruits and vegetables. The picking period lasts from March to end of October. Visitors may enjoy the rural tourism which is a concentration of catering, accommodation and entertainment.
