Firstofall,onepropertyofmoderntechnologyislatentlyharmfultoanylearningmind–itdistracts.Onethingwefeelaboutwhenwearesearchingforinformationonlineisthattheinter,asanoutstandingexampleofmoderntechnologyandevenregardedastheinnovatorofeducation,providesuswithnotonlyrelevantresultstomakeuseof,butalsoexternallinkstoclick.MorethanonceIturnedonmyputertocheckschoollibraryforresources,butendedupwatchingvideos.Inthiscase,puterasarepresentativeofmoderntechnologyplaysanegativeroleinlearninginformation.Wedoacquiremoreinformationwiththeconvenienttool,yetmostofthemareirrelevantandintheendprocrastinatingwouldlowerourlearning.  Also,studentswouldeasilybeedisorientedinthehugeseaofinformation.Althoughmoderntechnologycouldequipuswitheasyaesstoinformation,thehugeamountofresourceswouldactuallyleaveusdisbobulated.Therefore,itisonlywepossessinformationmorequicklyratherthanwelearnitmorequickly.AnillustratingexampleismyexperiencewithaHKdigitallibrarywhichstoresalmostallthebooksIdesire.AtfirstIenjoyeddownloadingthemfromthedatabase,however,onemonthlaterIendedupwithhundredsofbooksstoredinmyhardwareyetnoneofthemfinishedoreverclicked.  Furthermore,moderntechnologygivesstudentsanillusionthatinformationandrealknowledgeiseasytolearn–justbyclickingmouseorwatchingvideos.Butinfactthisformsonlythefirststeptowardsusefulinformationandeffectivelearning,aslearningofanykindrequiresfullconcentrationandinteractivethinking,whicharealmostabsentinthepocessofpopulare-learningexperience.  Tosummarize,moderntechnologydoesnothelpstudentslearnmoreinformationandlearnitmorequickly,thoughitdoesmakeaesstoinformationandresourcesmuchmoreeasily.Thepopulare-learningstilllackstheconcentration,depth,andinteractionthatarethehallmarkoftraditionalwaysofeducatingandlearning.  Areourkidsbeinglazierandlesscreative,lessimaginablethanbeforeasaconsequenceofhighlyadvancedtechnology?Myanswerisno,andjusttheopposite,technologyhasapparentlyassistedourkidstobeemorecreative.  Firstandforemost,technologyhasprovidedchildrenwitheasyaesstoscientificandliberalartresourceswhichistheirbestsourceofinspiration.Forexample,childrencouldnoweasilygainaesstoacademicdatabasesthroughiPadscreen,readclassicalworksonKindle,orwatchhistoricdocumentsonInter.Thesegreatworksareessentiallyhelpfultoarousingtheircuriosityandpreparesthemwithkeyknowledgenecessaryforanycreation.However,thesewonderfulequipmentsandfacilitiesareneverashandyinthepast,whenkidscouldonlyreachlimitedresourcesinpubliclibrariesorschools.Inthissense,technologyhasprovidedthepossibilityforchildrentobemorecreative.  Second,technologyhasequippedchildrenwithprofessionalapparatuswhichcouldfinallyrealizetheirimagination.Thistakesformparticularlyasputersoftwaresandapplications,suchasPhotoshopforcreativegraphicdesign,Overtureforeasilyposingapieceofmusic,3DMaxforbuildingupavirtualworld,etc..Allthesoftwarewereneverashandyastheyareatpresent,andthiswouldabsolutelyprovidesourchildrenaneffectivetoolforrealizingtheircreativity.  Third,technologyitselfisamarketplacewherecreativeideasareeconomicallyencouraged.SteveJobsearnedmillionsofdollarsayearforhisunparallelcreation,andMarkZuckberggainedhisreputationforthegeniussocialwork.Therefore,technologyhasprovidedchildrentheinternalmotivetodeveloptheircreativity.  However,itisundeniablethattechnologymightmakechildrenbeelazierandbefortablewithwhatisalreadyavailablebecauseeverythingaresoconvenientnowadaysandthereseemstobenowaytoimprovethem.Childrenlostinpcgamesorblindlypursuingeverysinglepieceoftechapparatusisarelevantexample.Thus,itisalwaysnecessarytokeepchildren’smindactiveinthemarvelousworldoftechnology.  Inanutshell,Istillregardchildrenasbeingincreasinglycreativeintechnologydevelopment,althoughitmightbringminorsideeffect.Asalongaswekeepabalancedmoodonchildrenenjoyingthefruitoftechnology,theyaresuretocontributemoretoinnovationthaninthepast.  Throughoutmylife,Ihavebeenluckyenoughtohaveaverygoodrelationshipwithmyparents.Theyhavesupportedme,givenmenecessarycriticism,andtaughtmeagreatdealabouthowtolivemylife.Parentscanbeveryimportantteachersinourlives;however,theyarenotalwaysthebestteachers.  Parentsmaybetooclosetotheirchildrenemotionally.Sometimestheycanonlyseetheirchildrenthoughtheeyesofaprotector.Forexample,theymaylimitachild'sfreedominthenameofsafety.Ateachermightseeatriptoabigcityasavaluablenewexperience.However,itmightseemtoodangeroustoaparent.  Anotherproblemisthatparentsmayexpecttheirhildren'sintereststobesimilartotheirown.Theycan'tseemtoseparatefromtheirchildrenintheirmind.Iftheylovescience,theymaytrytoforcetheirchildtolovesciencetoo.Butwhatiftheirchild'strueloveisart,orwriting,orcarrepair?  Parentsareusuallyeagertopassontheirvaluetotheirchildren.Butshouldchildrenalwaysbelievewhattheirparentsdo?Maybedifferentgenerationsneeddifferentwaysofthinking.Whenchildrenareyoung,theybelievethattheirparentsarealwaysrights.Butwhentheygetolder,theyrealizethereareotherviews.Sometimesparents,especiallyolderones,can'tkeepupwithrapidsocialortechnologychanges.Astudentwhohasfriendsofalldifferentracesandbackgroundsatschoolmayfindthatherparentsdon'treallyunderstandorvaluethedigitalrevolution.Sometimeskidshavetofindtheirownwaystowhattheybelievein.  Themostimportantthingtorealizeisthatweallhavemanyteachersinourlives.Ourparentsteachus,ourteachersteachus,andourpeersteachus.Booksandnewspapersandtelevisionalsoteachus.Allofthemarevaluable.
