An Unwritten Life After finished watching the film, my feeling was complicated. It made me think about a serial of things such as the culture differences between Han ethnic group and others, the life we may choose in the rest of our life, etc. The translation of the subtitles is interesting, which called the island Truman lived “Taoyuan” in Chinese. Both of us know it symbolizes an idyllic life in china. But Truman was not TaoYuaMing (a renowned ancient Chinese poet). His heart was full of questions and passions to this world, which force him to go outside the Seaheaven to find his true love or even his real life. So from this we can figure out differences between us and westerners in ideological system. They often pursue a creative life full of challenges and passions, while traditional Chinese like Mr. Tao were preferred to an idle life. Of course we can not say which one is better, but it provides us a better way to understand cultural differences. However, the most important thing I want to talk is about an unwritten life. There was a film called “the broom brothers”. In the film the old brother made a plan and manipulated the younger one to cheat others of their money. Just like Truman, the young man refused to do that finally. Life is only once for everyone, so we must be responsible to ourselves. Christopher made Truman a life, a life was more like a heaven and had nothing to fear in there. But Truman didn’t satisfy and try to escape from it. Even when faced with huge storms, he didn’t give up. That is the significance of humanity! We are living for our dreams, for the real person we want to be, for an unexpected and most exited life. Acting for audiences can make us a star, but it is not the meaning of life. We must stand up and break the rule. After fighting, it was time to choose the path we bound to. This must be a tough decision, because we might not have a second chance to change. So we hesitated in front of paths and lost in contemplation. God showed up again with another look, which was kind and counterfeit. After a harsh fighting in our mind, we turned around, said goodbye to god and all the audience. Maybe the way we chose was much tougher than others; maybe after several years, we were still nobody. But we would never regret, we made a plan on ourselves, we chose an unwritten life. Just like the poem: The Road Not Taken, written by Robert Lee Frost: Two roads diverged in a yellow wood, And sorry I could not travel both. Oh, I kept the first for another day! 　 Yet knowing how way leads on to way, 　 I doubted if I should ever come back. 　 Two roads diverged in a wood, and I-- 　 I took the one less traveled by, 　 And that has made all the difference.　 No one could know what would happen to Truman in his real life. Maybe he could reunion with the girl he truly loved and attach to a happy life there after or lost in poverty. At least he tried and that is enough. As for us, modern college students, we may also live in a perfect planned life or face with choices. So I think the figure of Truman can be a lighthouse in life which guides us out of trouble and to a bright future.
