NEXT FRIDAY! thSHASA and Pre-school are holding a joint Christmas Extravaganza next Friday 11 December 2015 between 3.15 – 5.30pm – you will find Christmas games (Tombola, Lucky Dip, stick the nose on Rudolph and many more….), Christmas craft activities, mulled wine, carol singing accompanied by musicians, Father Christmas in his magical grotto and much more……Also Father Christmas will be making his grand arrival to his grotto at 3.30pm – not to be missed!! We hope to see you all at the Extravaganza and all raise some additional funds for both SHASA and Pre-school. 2 STILL NEED TO PURCHASE YOUR CHRISTMAS CARDS?? During the summer term we invited a local artist Jennie Quigley to work with all the children on an R.E / Art project, focusing on Christian symbols and we are very proud of the end result which is displayed in the school hall. We are delighted to announce that we have had some cards made with the image and are now selling these through the school office at a cost of ?3.50 for 10 cards. If you would like to purchase any, please place your money in a named sealed envelope in the office. A sample card is placed in both key stage windows and would make perfect Christmas cards or notelets. 3 PRE-SCHOOL / KS1 CHRISTMAS PERFORMANCE – ‘THE LITTLE FIR TREE’ Key stage 1 children together with Pre-school will be performing ‘The Little Fir Tree’ on Wednesday th9 December at 2.00pm. All tickets were in book bags on Thursday. It is guaranteed to give everyone who watches it a very warm, festive type glow. Tickets are still available – there will be no entry fee but we will hold a retiring collection at the end. All friends, family and community members are welcome, if you would like a ticket, please contact the school office. 4 SCHOOL LUNCHES Cygnet Catering, who have now been renamed as ‘Chartwells’, have informed us that they are transferring to an online system for ordering lunches. This means any meals required from January 2016 will need to be ordered and paid for online. Deadlines and details will be sent to parents as soon as we receive them from Chartwells. If this is likely to cause you a problem, please contact Chartwells directly on 0208 751 4124. 5 GRASSROOTS – AFTER SCHOOL CLUBS In book bags today you will find booking forms for the afterschool clubs for Term 3, all after school thclubs will start during the w/c 11 January 2016. Please ensure the booking form and payment is returned to the school office during the first week back at school. 6 BREAKFAST CLUB thThe last breakfast club this term will be Thursday 17 December and will restart the first week thback on Thursday 7 January 2016. 7 MUSIC TUITION thAll music tuition will recommence during the first week back at school – w/c 4 January 2016. 8 CHRISTMAS CONCERT The Year 6 children attended a Christmas Concert at Malmesbury School on Wednesday morning. It was great to see some familiar faces performing and a good time was had by all. 9 CHRISTMAS POST BOX thThe Christmas post box will be in place in the Library next Monday 7 December with one delivery a day. Please remember to put surnames and year groups on the envelopes so it gets to the correct person! 10 SHASA - LUCKY SQUARE GAME – TO WIN A CHRISTMAS HAMPER To help raise some money for SHASA, they have put together a lovely hamper, full of festive goodies and you can buy a lucky square for ?1.00 at the Fourway Stores in Great Somerford. The winner will be drawn on Wednesday 23rd December!! Good Luck! 11 CHRISTMAS JUMPER DAY thOn Friday 18 December we will be supporting three charities, Macmillan Cancer Support, Make-A- Wish UK and Save the Children in their annual Christmas Jumper Day. Wear your favourite Christmas jumper or decorate your school jumper with tinsel or dig out a winter woolly and get creative with sequins and snowflakes!! We would suggest a ?1 donation to the charity. 12 ADMISSIONS POLICY CONSULATION Following conversion to Academy status, while the admissions authority for Somerfords’ Walter Powell CE Academy is now DBAT, the Local Board has delegated authority to set the admissions arrangements for the school and is now consulting on the arrangements for 2017. Please can you check labels in sweat shirts this weekend and should you find one not belonging to your child, please return it to the rightful owner. 14 MRS ROWE Mrs Rowe is recovering from an operation and will be unavailable. She is hoping to return before the end of term.
