history begins around 2200 B.C. Gained Cultural importance in 618A.D. with the completion of the Grand Canal. Beijing as the northern terminus and Hangzhou as the southern terminus. significant and also one of China’s most scenic and beautiful places to visit. There are also several temples, towers, parks, botanical gardens, and even a zoo to visit. Culture Native residents speak a Wu dialect. Hangzhou is best known for originating Longjing, a famous variety of green tea. Hangzhou is known for its artistic creations, such as silk, umbrellas, and Chinese hand-held folding fans. Economy Traditionally textile industries, silk and machinery, but the electronic industry is rising quickly. Tea is also produced in Hangzhou in large quantities. GDP per capita is the equivalent to $4620 US dollars. This is 8th of 659 cities in China. Forbes magazine ranked Hangzhou the number 1 city in China for business. Education Hangzhou has always prided itself on the literacy rate of her people. There are 13 Universities in or within 150 Kilometers of Hangzhou. There are also many different High Schools that do there best to give their students a good start to their educations. Conclusion Hangzhou is a very influential city with a lot to see. I expect it to have many historic places and buildings, along with many modern marvels. I am
very excited about getting the chance to visit this city on our trip and seeing all the great places
