功夫熊猫影评 What is National is International Kung Fu Panda is a cartoon film which tells the main character, Po, achieves his dream what is to be a master of Kung Fu through his hard training and with the help of Furious Five— Tigress, Crane, Mantis, Viper and the hilarious Monkey. After watching this movie, we may be surprised to the veritable expression of Kung Fu and panda. Thus, what I want to point is the national elements in this film. Obviously, the most representative element in this film is Chinese Kung Fu. When talking about “Kung Fu”, people always like to add “Chinese” before it, which shows that the Chinese swordsmen film is not only popular among China, but also has a favorable reception by all over the world. The whole Kung Fu Panda in some ways follow the same pattern with the Chinese Kung Fu novels such as leaping onto roofs and vaulting over wall, hitting the vital point and all kinds of common moves, schools, martial spirit and code of the brotherhood which are always shown at Louis Cha’s ,Jin Yong, martial arts novels. In this movie, Master Oogway, Master Shifu and Furious Five are all the representation of Chinese Kung Fu, so is Po. It seems that Master Oogway doesn’t show any special skills in the film. Actually, he is the delegates of the extensive and profound Taiji which is a kind of Chinese Kung Fu and was established by Zhang Sanfeng. It is said that Zhang Sanfeng could predict everything before it happens as well as inspires and enlightens those who are confused, and he could survive for months on nothing but the clew of ginkgo leaf and the energy of the universe. In fact, all of these skills are shown by Master Oogway, too. Another reason why Master Oogway is chosen to be the representation of Taiji is because we always say that the turtle has a long life. In legend, what is interesting is the founder of Taiji, Zhang Sanfeng, died when he was 221 years old, so Master Oogway is very similar to Zhang Sanfeng at this point. From all the above we can see one of the Chinese Kung Fu— Taiji. What’s more, some other different kinds of Chinese Kung Fu are shown by Furious Five. There is a saying, “Someone is skillful in using each and every of the 18 weapons”, and then this saying must be embodied very well by them. Tigress is good at running and using her claw to give a quick and powerful attack; Viper is skilled in attacking enemies suddenly and unexpectedly with rapid speed, and this kind of attacking style is always used by one of the Chinese Wushu actors Sammo hung in many of his films; Monkey is very flexible and prefers to flourish stick; Crane usually attacks people with his sharp-pointed bill; Mantis is very small, but it is helpful to hide when in danger, and just because of his slight figure, he is able to move fast and hits people’s mark in each move. We can also see Kung Fu Panda borrows a lot other things from the Chinese Kung Fu movies and uses them properly. When fighting against Tai Lung, Po’s moves and yell are mainly intimating Bruce Lee who has great renown for his Wushu both in home and abroad. Jackie Chan’s classical action is also revealed when Po and Master Shifu seize the steamed stuffed bun, they can easily use chopsticks and bowls around them and both of them are accustomed to eating while fighting against each other. The most interesting segment of this film is when Tai Lung defeats Furious Five in draw bridge, he just hits them at certain acupoint instead of killing them, and this kind of Kung Fu we can only see in Chinese movies actually. Not only Kung Fu, but some other Chinese elements are adopted by this movie, too. When Po’s father lets him sell noodles, he uses a kind of traditional handcart. Then in Peace Valley, there are four-person sedan, fire cracker, acupuncture and the traditional temple fairs. In addition, the villager’s life habits in this movie also meet a criterion of that of ancient China such as writing with Chinese brush, eating with chopsticks. These scenes bring strong visual impact for and fatal attraction to audience. As for architecture style, arch cornice, red brick and green tile are as vivid as life. The Chinese landscape painting and Chinese porcelain that are used to decorate the Jade Palace show a distinctive flavor. Further more, when we see aqueous and mountainous beautiful peace valley with the mist wreathing it, we probably feel that we are in Guilin for the scenery is very similar between them. When it comes to the music of this film, almost all of the instruments are Chinese folk instruments: suona, vertical bamboo flute, zither, hornpipe, gones and drums and xylophone. Whenever we listen to the music, the cultural richness and national aromatics are around us for a long time. Different nation has different culture. This movie is directed by American director, so American culture is absolute necessary to be shown all the time. However, in what kind of way it is expressed? The key to the answer is Po. We may wonder why Po, a panda, should be chosen as a main character for as we all know that panda is a treasure of China. Definitely, this is exactly the high point of this film— cultural integration. Americanism emphasizes that as long as one has his faith and he can pursue his goal bravely as well as firmly, then he may become a winner in the end. And in China, panda is thought to be reliable, honest and determined. Therefore, the director of this film picks up panda is an advisable choice. At first, Po is only nobody who makes his noodles in his father’s restaurant, but when he dreams he becomes a master of Kung Fu, he manages to achieve his goal immediately. He tries every means to get into the Jade Palace including letting his father down when he knows the Dragon Warrior would be chosen. Fortunately, his dream comes true when Master Oogway announced he will be the Dragon Warrior. Life is not always easy, of course. After entering the Jade Palace, he is laughed at by Furious Five even by his Shifu because of his fat butt, flabby arms and ridiculous belly, and the most important is because he knows nothing about Kung Fu. Facing with all kinds of derision and merciless blow, however, Po still doesn’t give up for he has firm belief and he is so strong that he can handle all kinds of difficulties. Finally, he becomes real Dragon Warrior and accomplishes his mission to defeat Tai Lung. In a conclusion, Po is just a representative of Chinese culture, nut the spirit he shows is typical Americanism. And it is him that makes two different kinds of culture get together and teach us even if an unimportant person could be successful as long as he makes arduous efforts. As I have mentioned above, Kung Fu Panda is widespread and is popular among the world. It attacks people not only because of its interesting pot but also because of the use of national elements both in China and American. Thus, we can see what is national is international.
