Should Private Car Owners be Taxed for Pollution?
With the prosperous booming of car industry, the problem of air pollution is becoming progressively severe, which gives birth to the recent flaming argument on whether private car owners should be taxed on pollution.
Undoubtedly, all attention is deserved. However, there is a dramatic division on this issue. Some people are in firm belief that the private car owners should be taxed in order to limit the emission of harmful gases , which can be an effective measure to protect our environment and relive the stern situation of traffic jam. while others don't think so .they believe that taxing merely on pollution cant settle the problem .what is more ,we can do something else that may brings more pleasant results such as improving the quality of oil ,developing new clean power, taxing on fuel ,and so forth.
Weighing the efficiency of the measure of pollution tax, I am inclined to agree with the opinion of the latter. To my mind, the pollution tax can’t deal with the pollution essentially. On one hand, pollution tax, to a certain degree, can lessen the discharging of polluting air and alleviate the congestion of urban city roads by limiting the use of private cars. On the other hand, pollution tax is far more from curbing the exhalation of poisonous gases considering the skyrocketing of private cars and the serious contamination; it can’t solve the problem fundamentally.
From a long-term point of view, we should figure out other ways more productive to control car pollution. Above all, from my perspective, new technology and creative methods ought to be adopted in manufacturing cars, which will take less fuel to function. we can also seek for alternative fuel to replace oil with clean power ,like hydrogen ,bio-energy, which would be better to the atmosphere .besides, what should be done is the careful planning of city roads in order to reverse the unpleasant crowded situation, so that cars can pass by without consuming more energy. Finally, the government should advocate people to take public transportation rather than cars and set limit on dates, like “single past, double banned”.
All in all, Roman is not built in one day. More efforts need be invested in the combat of car pollution by all walks of people in our society.
