Unit 1  Ping-pong and Basketball Good morning/afternoon, judges. I’m the candidate NO.6 applying for primary school English teacher. Today my topic is Ping-pong and Basketball. It’s my great honor to present my lesson here. To make my presentation much clearer, I’ll describe my thoughts in the following 6 aspects: analysis of teaching materials,analysis of students, teaching methods, learning methods, teaching procedures and blackboard design. Now I am going to present them one by one. Part One: Analysis of the Teaching Material This lesson is the first period of unit1 in book 8 HBEP. The unit is mainly about sports and this lesson is a dialogue between Jenny and LiMing about their favorite sports, which is close to the students' real life. As the first lesson of this unit, it is helpful to raise students’ interests about sports and it also will be beneficial for them to learn the rest of the unit. Based on the new curriculum standard,I set three teaching objectives: 1. Knowledge objectives Students can listen ,read, recognize and write the new words: sport, football, basketball, some, any, wear. Students can grasp and use the following sentence patterns to perform dialogues in the real situation : “ What sports do you play” and its answer “I can play...”; “What’s your favorite sport” and its answer “ I like ...best”; “Do you have any..., Yes or No”. 2. Ability objectives Students can develop their abilities of speaking, reading and writing by performing the dialogue and using the new sentence patterns in their daily life. 3. Emotional objectives To arouse students' learning interest and help them form the good habit of loving sports. Based on the analysis of teaching materials, the teaching key points and difficult points are as follows: The key points are helping students read and write the new words correctly; master the sentence patterns. While the teaching difficult points are to make up simple dialogues about their hobbies in sports and tell the difference about the usage of “some” and “any”. Part Two: Analysis of the students    Ss in Grade 6 have learnt English for more than 3 years. They have accumulated some basic English knowledge. They have curiosity about English and they are willing to speak English. Their abstract thinking is still not fully mature; their image thinking occupies an important position in learning. I will take all these factors into consideration. Part Three: The Teaching Methods According to the students physical and physiological characteristics,I will adopt task-based language teaching method, communicative method and the situational approach to improve the students enthusiasm,design a variety of activities , make the students learn to play and play to learn . Part Four: The Learning Methods Correspondingly , I will encourage students to use cooperative study method to embody the role of first place in instruction activities.They will take part in the activities and finish the tasks cooperatively in pairs and in groups. During the teaching process, multimedia, tape recorder and material objects will be needed as the teaching aids. Part Five: Teaching Procedures So much for the teaching methods and learning methods, Now it comes to the most important part —teaching procedures, it includes the following 5 steps: Step 1: warm up and lead in After daily greetings, I will play an English song about sport and let the students to guess the name of the song, which can creat the relaxed and happy atmosphere of learning English. Then I will show them some pictures of famous sports stars such as YaoMing, Beckham and ZhangYining, then ask them some questions :“Who are they? What are they doing? What does he/she like to do?” And then tell them the theme of this lesson is about your favorite sports . It is helpful to arouse the students’ interest of study and bring in new subject. Step 2: presentation of new class (part1) First, I will show some pictures about various sports to learn the new words: sport, basketball, football and ping-pong, then leave the platform and stand among the students to ask them to answer my questions one by one “What sports do you play? What is your favorite sport? What sports do you like best?". Ss will answer my question :" I play basketball. Ping-pong is my favorite sport or I like ping-pong best". After that, I will play the tape of part1 and let students read after it to correct their pronunciation. (part2) Second, I will let students to review the words we have learned about clothes by showing some pictures such as T-shirt and shorts, then tell them I always wear a T-shirt and shorts to play ping-pong. Then ask some Ss “Do you have a T-shirt? Do you have any ping-pong balls? What do you need to buy?” After their answering, I will say “ That’s okay. We can buy some.” At this time, I will show two sentences on the blackboard “They have some bread for breakfast. Do you have any water?”. Then let students pay attention to the usage of “some” and “any” according to the types of sentences. After that, students will read after the tape of part2 to immitate the pronunciation.
