erangefromDtoD,theminimumandmaximumholesizesaneachonequarteroftheminordiametertolerancelargerthanthecorrespondinglimitsforthelengthofengagementtoandincludingDFortherangefromDtoD,theminimumholesizeislargerthantheminimumminordiameteroftheinternalthreadbyhalftheminordiametertoleranceandthemaximumholesizeisequaltothemaximumminordiameterFortherangefromDtoD,theminimumandmaximumholesizesareeachonequarteroftheminordiametertoleranceoftheinternalthreadlargerthanthecorrespondinglimitsfortheDtoDlengthofengagementFromtheforegoingitwillbeseenthatthedifferencebetweenlimitsineachrangeisthesameandequaltohalfoftheminordiametertoleranceThisisageneralruleHowever,theminimumdifferencesforsizesbelowinareequaltotheminordiametertolerancesgivenintablesandforlengthsofengagementtoandincludingDForlengthsofengagementgreaterthanDforsizesinandlargerthevaluesareadjustedsothatthedifferencebetweenlimitsisneverlessthaninRECOMMENDEDHOLESiZELIMITSFORSTANDARDUNIFIEDTHREADSANDSOMEUNSTHREADSAREGIVENINTABLESAANDAFordiameterpitchcombinationsotherthanthosegiveninthesetables,thetolerancesgivenintableorthetolerancederivedfromtheformula,shouldbesimilarlyappliedtodeterminetheholesizelimitsInternalthreadsrequiringmodifiedminordiametersforlengthsofengagementlessthanDtodeveloptheoptimumstrengthofthefastening,orlongerthanDtoreducetappingdifficulties,shouldbedesignatedasspecifiedinsection(Seeunder"Designatingthreadshavingmodifiedcrests"inthatsection)FORUNIFIEDMiniaturethreads,thedistributionofholesizelimits,differs,fromtheabove,toaccordwithconditionspeculiartominiaturethreadsandisshowninfigureAThemaximumlimitsarebasedonprovidingafunctionallyadequatefasteningforthemostcommonapplications,wherethematerialoftheexternallythreadedmemberisofastrengthessentiallyequaltoorgreaterthanthatofitsmatingpartInapplicationswhere,becauseofconsiderationsotherthanthefastening,thescrewismadeofanappreciablyweakermaterial,theuseofsmallerholesizesisusuallynecessarytoextendthreadengagementtoagreaterdepthontheexternalthreadHowever,holesizesdowntotheminimumlimitoftheminordiametersmustbeavoidedtoallowforthespinupdevelopedastheresultofthenegativerakewithwhichthesesmalltapsaregroundRecommendedholesizelimits,forthesethreadsaretabulatedintableAFEDSTDHMarch
