Reading the passage, I’m touched and link my memory to the most supportive mentor of my own -- Mr. Xu, an experienced Chinese teacher, was in charge of my class in Senior Three. As the senior year is characterized by running a tight schedule on everyday basis, we students were loaded with heavy coursework, frequent quiz and exams, and pressured by our parents’ high expectations. Increasingly, I felt a need to consult with Mr. Xu on reducing the amount of our workload so that we could be given more time to digest what we had learned over the past couple years. Unlike some of the stern supervisors, Mr. Xu was open-minded and patient enough to allow me to raise the above argument. “Besides the study efficiency,” he added with a friendly simile, “I also concern for your morale and well-being. So don’t you worry; I’ll talk to other teachers and see what we can do to help the class decompress.” Thanks to his approval and consistent support, we systematically adjusted our pacing and stayed upbeat in preparation for the college entrance examination. A teacher can be influential in either positive or negative ways. In my observation, a good teacher can bring out the best of his students while a bad teacher may, regrettably, affect the young mind in most discouraging manners.
