Bird educators and leaders from more than 11 different Bird Watching Societies in Mainland China attended the meeting. FJBWS took part in the First Wetland Link International Asia Symposium held in Hong Kong from 23rd to 26th Janu- ary and introduced the conservation work carried out at Minjiang Estuary. 2. From 1st February to 31st April, FJBWS members provide public bird watching guidance in the Fuzhou Forest Park every week. 3. FJBWS gave a lecture on wetlands in Fujian Library on 2nd February. A bird watching activity was organized at Minjiang Estuary the next day. 4. A Conservation Group of Wetland at Minjiang Estuary was founded by FJBWS on 1st March. 5. Cooperated with the Fujian and Changle Member Committees, FJBWS arranged about 300 volunteers to clear rubbish at Minjiang Estuary wetland on 20th March. 6. Fujian Daily Newspaper reported three years’ work of FJBWS on 20th March. 7. On March 21st, FJBWS and Hai Xia Du Shi Newspaper together initiated the proposal of hanging artificial bird nests in schools and communities. 8. FJBWS held “Swarovski—the Third Fuzhou Bird Race” on 31st March. 9. From 9th April 2007, FJBWS hired Fujian Yongli Honesty Accounting Firm as the professional auditor institution of FJBWS. 10. From 1st to 4th May, Yang Jin led 5 members of FJBWS continued the voluntary bird surveys in province-level Na- ture Reserves. Yellow-bellied Tragopan, Greater Spotted Eagle and some other rare birds were recorded in Emei Feng and Longxi Shan Nature Reserves. 1. “The Symposium of Bird Watching and Ecotourism for Taiwan and the China Mainland 2007” was held on 8th April in Xiamen. Experts from Taiwan and the China mainland discussed problems related to birds and ecology. 2. National Coastal Waterbird Survey was carried out on 6th May. One Spoon-billed Sandpiper was recorded in Guixia, Nan’an, and six Asian Dowitchers were recorded in Jujiang, Nan’an. One Chinese Egret was seen in each of these two places. 3. Nine Oriental White Storks were recorded by XMBWS at Dongyu, Haichang in April. 11. Three and four Chinese Crested Terns were recorded during the National Coastal Waterbird Survey at Minjiang Estuary on 6th May and the next day respectively. This was the earliest record in the world and also the earliest record with the greatest number in Fujian. Beijing Bird Watching Society 1. With the topic of “Protect the Wild Mandarin Ducks in Beijing”, BJBWS took part in a education month on biodiversity conservation which was held in Zizuyuan Park on 21st April. 2. BJBWS set up exhibition boards about Swallows and Swifts in Summer Palace on 12th May. Ornithologists and volunteers delivered information about swallows and swifts to the public. Volunteers also gave bird watching guidance at two bird watching sites.
