We have many definitions about Language. But on the above –mentioned points language may be defined as follows by Zhao Sikai(赵世开):” Language is a system of symbols based on physiology, psychology and physics. It is a specific social action and a carrier of information used for human communication in a society.”A definition of Linguistics: A definition of Linguistics: linguistics is the scientific study of language. To be mo re exact, linguistics is the study of human speech including the units , nature ,structure, and modification of language. According to traditional classifications, linguistics consists of three branches: phonetics, grammar and lexicology. What is called lexicology? What is called lexicology?
Lexicology is the branch of linguistics concerned with the study of the vocabulary of a given language. It deals with words, their origin, development, history, structure, meaning and application.
