A Contrastive Study on Family Education between China and America
A Contrastive Study on Family Education between China and America [Abstract] Nowadays, the international cooperation and competition are developing rapidly. However, the key of the world development is the talent. As we all know, the family is the first place for nurturing talent. Actually, the competition of the talent is the competition of family education. So, in many countries, family education is considered as the vital part in the whole education process. Although the Chinese government and educators pay close attention to the family education, there are still many problems. Now, the problem becomes more and more serious. It is helpful to use the experience of other countries for reference, especially, the experience of American family education. In this thesis, I set forth the family education features of two countries, and illustrate a more suitable way according to the disadvantages of Chinese family education. Introduction Family education is an educational practice of human beings, and it is the educational influence of parents to their children in children’s lives. In a broad sense, family education includes the parents’ educational influence to their children, the children’s educational influence to their parents, and the mutual educational influence of parents themselves and children themselves, even the educational influence between the elders and children. In a narrow sense, family education is the educational influence of parents to their children. Moreover, family education contains many complicated elements. But for one person, parents are the first teachers. Parents’ love for children is the great natural love. This kind of love becomes the most powerful education, especially, before children become adults. Basically, the development of one nation depends on the young generation, and the country that does not pay attention to the children’s education will lead to downfall. The nation’s prosperity needs the talented children. The main responsibility of nurturing children is family education. Family education is the trunk; other education forms are branches and leaves. As the world develops, many countries take education seriously, especially, the family education. However, at present, the crime rate of teenagers increases annually. The family violence is serious. Children with psychological problems are in a wide range. The suicides of the students happen successively. The unmarried girls are hurt with both physical and spiritual. All of above illustrate that present family education situation is serious. The family education must be taken seriously. Family is the most important study and living place in a person’s whole life. Every detailed action leaves influence in children’s mind. The parents’ educational influence is the basic. It decides one person’s thinking, living style, values, and so on. So, family education plays the most significant role in the whole education process. In this paper, by contrasting the family education of China and USA ,I will tell the differences of family education between the two countries. 2. The contrast of the result of SINO-USA family education Different education aim, content and style will cause different education result. We can get this from the contrast of the result of SINO-USA family education. Generally speaking, the characteristic of American children tend to be active, they can keep calm when they were in trouble, can live with people in harmony, optimistic, brave, have fortitudes to overcome difficulties, dare to think, dare to do, have the spirit of innovation. They are strong in self –reliance; strong in social activities, have the confidence and courage to be a social individual. They do not rely on their parents since they are 18 years old, most of them go out to labor to earn their own expense, have the intelligence to adapt to the market economy, they participate with the finance since they were children, get some tips of sale, and the ability to communicate with the customer, and so on. The practice causes them to fully realize that money is hard to earn, thus has fostered the careful planning, the industrious and economical habit. In a word, the American children's characteristics are that they are mature in non-intelligent factor, have strong ability, can smoothly adapt to the society. But Chinese children, youths, and even university students, although their academic records are not inferior to the American children, often display the negative tendency in the disposition: Working passively, getting into the habit of relying on their parents, getting weak human communication ability, they are deficient of the ability to be independent. Perhaps these individualities and the characteristics of Chinese children have close connection with the favor of “school record education” of the society. Parents hope the children hide in school that is called “ivory tower” to preserve in study; they don’t want to see the children to strive in the society, which changes constantly. PAGE 1
