The art form had undergone numerous transformations during the Han, Tang and Song dynasties. It combines literature, music, dance, fine arts, martial arts, acrobatics and performance arts. 京剧 Peking Opera 京剧 也称“皮黄”，由“西皮”和“二黄”两种基本腔调组成它的音乐素材。因形成于北京而得名，盛行于20世纪三、四十年代，被誉为“国粹”。 Peking Opera Also known as “Pi Huang”, Peking Opera gets its melody from those of “Xi Pi” and “Er Huang.” It was first practiced and performed in Beijing. The opera thrived in the 1930s and 1940s and is honored as the “quintessence of Chinese culture.” 昆曲 Kunqu Opera 昆曲 昆曲已有近六百年的历史，被称为“百戏之母”。对京剧、川剧等地方剧种的形成和发展都有影响。唱腔圆润柔美，悠扬徐缓。表演细腻，舞蹈性强。 Kunqu Opera With a history of nearly 600 years, Kunqu Opera is called the “mother of all operas,” which exerted influences to the formation and development of local operas such as Peking Opera and Sichuan Opera. With energetic, beautiful and slow melodies, the opera boasts fine performance and dance forms. 豫剧 Henan Opera 豫剧 也称河南梆子。是河南省的主要剧种之一。流行地区分布甚广，大江南北、黄河两岸以至新疆、西藏都有豫剧演出。 Henan Opera Also known as Henan Bangzi, it is one of the major operas in Henan Province. Henan Opera can be seen in regions around the Yangtze River and Yellow River area, and even as far west as Xinjiang and Tibet. It boasts various sects, mainly on stories of talented young man and beautiful woman. 评剧 Pingju Opera 评剧 评剧是流传于我国北方的一个戏曲剧种，产生于河北省东部。评剧在现代戏的创作演出方面，影响很大。2006年，被列入首批国家级非物质文化遗产名录。 Pingju Opera Originating in east Hebei Province, Pingju Opera is popular in north China. It has great influence in the creation and performance of modern operas. In 2006, it was among the first to be listed as a national intangible cultural heritage. 秦腔 Qinqiang 秦腔 陕西省地方戏，也叫“陕西梆子”，是最早的梆子腔，约形成于明代中期。其表演粗犷质朴，唱腔高亢激越，其声如吼，善于表现悲剧情节。 Qinqiang The local opera common in Shaanxi Province, Qinqiang is also called Shaanxi Bangzi. It is the earliest Bangzi melody, formed in the mid-Ming Dynasty. Qinqiang boasts rough and simple performances and loud and strong melodies. Plays such as the Love Between a Fairy and a Young Man, and the Princess’ Wrong Love are popular both at home and abroad. 粤剧 Guangdong Opera 粤剧 粤方言区中最具影响力戏曲剧种，有300余年的历史。粤剧吸纳了多元的音乐、戏剧元素，创造性地成为中国南北戏曲艺术的集大成者。 Guangdong Opera The most influential opera using the Guangdong dialect and with a history of more than 300 years, Guangdong Opera utilizes multiple music and opera elements and has become the great performance combining the opera arts of both north China and south China. 川剧 Sichuan Opera 川剧 四川省地方剧种。由昆曲、高腔、胡琴、弹戏、灯调五种声腔组成。川剧唱腔高亢激越，表演诙谐幽默，富于生活气息。 Sichuan Opera A local opera of Sichuan Province, Sichuan Opera consists of five melody styles of kunqu, gaoqiang, huqin voice, tanxi and dengdiao.
