Fast reading to get the general idea of the text. . 2. During the fast reading, help the students know some methods of reading a newspaper article. . 3. Careful reading to understand the passage better. . 4. Discussion to activate the students’ imagination. . Teaching aids: Multimedia & blackboard Teaching procedures: (1) Pre-reading Step 1 Lead-in: Get students to think about the following questions: 1. Get students to think where the title is most likely to appear? (show the students three pictures) 2. Tell the feature of the title to the students and complete the title. 3. According to the title, let the students to guess why the boy was missing and guide them to guess the possibility --- UFO (show some pictures of UFO). 4. Tell the students that this is a news story and the structure of newspaper article. (Inverted Pyramid Format) (2)While-reading Step 2 skimming Go through the text quickly to have a general idea (Linking) Step 3 scanning and careful reading (Design different forms of questions for each part) 1. Ask students to go through the first paragraph and find out the 4Ws questions. (Answer the questions) 2 T/F questions (Para 2) 3. Arrange the following events in the order of time. (Para 3-4) 4. Fill in the blanks. (Para 5-7) Step 4 Summary Summarize the whole text. (Multiple choice) Step 5 Role play If you are a newspaper reporter from China Daily, please make an interview according to the picture.
