Nature and task of the course As an organic component of higher education, college English is a required basic course for undergraduates, which mainly consists of basic English knowledge, English application skills, English learning methods and intercultural communication etc. College English also serves as a teaching system which is guided by the theory of foreign language teaching and integrates multiple teaching modes and measures. College English teaching aims at training all undergraduates for an all-round application ability of English, the ability of listening and speaking in particular, so that they, after graduation, can effectively conduct verbal and formal information exchange in English at their work and social communications. Additionally, it’s also the purpose of college English teaching to enhance the self-regulated learning ability and comprehensive cultural attainment of undergraduates so as to help them meet the requirements of China’s economy development and international communications. Syllabus of Higher Mathematics A Course title: College English Periods/credits: 176/11 Advanced placement: None Applicable specialities: Engineering course College (Section) or Department (Teaching and Research Division) which will offer the above mentioned course: Department of mathematics and statistics, college of science I. Nature and task of the course Being a required, significant and basic theory course for undergraduates of all specialities of science and engineering department, the higher mathematics course of higher college aims at fostering sorts of special and competent talents for the socialist modernization drive of China. After learning the above-mentioned course, our students are able to command the basic concepts, theories and calculation skills of the following subjects: 1. Function, limit and sequence; 2. Differential calculus of single variable function; 3. Integral calculus of single variable function; 4. Vector algebra and space analytic geometry; 5. Differential calculus of multi-variable function; 6. Integral calculus of multi-variable function; 7. Infinite series (including Fourier series); 8. Nature and task of the course Foundation of computer culture course serves as the first level of basic computer application teaching system and one of the public elementary courses for students of non-computer specialities. Through such steps as theory teaching and experiment on computer, the student can, by starting from elementary knowledge of computer, gradually learn how to use computer operating system, Office 2000, computer networks & communications and some commonly used tools and soft wares. The theory course will be focused on teaching computer culture knowledge and training the self-regulated learning abilities of students; while the experiment on computer course will attach its importance on practical operating abilities so as to help students have a proficient command of basic computer operation. Syllabus of Chemistry Experiment A1 Course title: Chemistry Experiment A1 Periods/credits: 40/2.5 Applicable specialities: specialities of Environmental science, environmental engineering, mineral processing, biological technology, materials science, materials chemistry, composite materials, inorganic non-metallic materials etc; Laboratory which will offer these experiments: Chemistry experiment center of college of science I. Purpose and task of experiment teaching Chemistry is a science based on experiments. Apart from being an indispensable component of inorganic chemistry teaching, chemistry experiment A1 comes as the first experiment course for students of chemical engineering specialities of higher industrial college. After taking this course, the students can not only deepen their understanding towards theoretical knowledge, command certain basic skills of chemistry experiments and improve their practical operating abilities by integrating theory with practice, but also form a scientific way of thinking and an attitude of unremitting pursuance to preciseness and seeking truth from facts. So this is an effective means and measure to implement ability-oriented education and cultivate innovation capability. In order to meet the requirements of chemistry teaching reform, chemistry experiment A1 now consists of routine synthetic preparation experiments for verification and test as well as comprehensive and designing experiments in terms of environmental protection, which can further bring the teaching quality to a higher level by attaching importance to research type of teaching concept and adopting multi-directional practice and exploration. Bring forward to our students the concept and awareness of green chemistry by making use of micro-scale chemistry experiment technology and combining “constant” and “micro” concepts. Syllabus of Inorganic Chemistry A1 Course title: Inorganic Chemistry A1 Periods/credits: 72/4.5 Advanced placement: Chemistry of senior high school Applicable specialities: specialities materials science, environmental science, environmental engineering, mineral processing engineering, materials chemistry, composite materials, inorganic non-metallic materials and biological technology College which will offer the above mentioned course: college of science I. Nature and task of the course As the first required major course for undergraduates of such specialities as chemical engineering, pharmacy, light industry, materials, metallurgy, environmental protection and biology etc of higher industrial colleges, inorganic chemistry is a sub-discipline of chemistry which covers the rationale and elements of chemistry and the materials makeup, structure, nature and chemical reaction rules of inorganic chemistry. This course serves not only as an important part of the integrate knowledge structure and comprehensive capability which are necessary for training professional engineering technicians, but also a foundation for further learning of some other chemistry courses and special courses relevant. Nature and task of the course Being a bridge between foundation courses and major courses, foundations of material science comes as one of the basic courses for students who specialize in material science and engineering, material physics and material chemistry etc. After learning this course: 1. The students are able to command the scientific principles and engineering methods of the following aspects: introduction to material, crystal structures, crystal structure defects, non-crystal structures and properties, surface structures and properties, phase balance and phase diagram, basic dynamics process---diffusion, phase change of material, solid-state reaction, agglomeration, corrosion and oxidation in material preparation, and fatigue and fracture etc. 2. The students are able to fully understand the common properties and laws in material science, that is, the inter-relations and restriction laws among material’s makeup, formation (processing) conditions, structures, properties and material’s usage. 3. The students are able to, through the training of scientific way of thinking, solve actual engineering problems by making use of scientific principles while command the elementary knowledge of material science so as to lay some necessary foundations for future engagement in material design and research & development. Purpose and task of experiment teaching Being one important foundation course and experiment course for students who major in material science and engineering, material physics, material chemistry and inorganic non-metallic materials, Foundations of Material Science Experiment builds itself on such courses as higher mathematics, engineering mathematics, college physics, basic chemistry, physical chemistry and foundations of material science etc and integrates with such specialized theory courses as material process & equipment and foundations of material science to form a complete course system. Nature and task of the course Derived from basic theory course to a major one, Engineering Mechanics is a technology foundation course which aims at researching the force analysis of engineering components and calculating the intensity, rigidity and stability of engineering components so as to offer mechanics theory foundations for engineering design. Therefore, as for students who specialize in engineering, this course will definitely help them lay a solid foundation for future learning of other major courses and provide them with analysis method for solving practical engineering problems later on. This course is mainly involved with many concepts, theorems and formulas and closely connected with the above mentioned advanced placement. Nature and task of the course Metal Techniques Practice serves as the important practical technology foundation course which helps the students with engineering training, cultivate their engineering awareness, learn process-related knowledge and improve their practice abilities. It is the indispensable advanced placement for learning series of machine manufacturing courses and also the foundation and required course for establishing the concept of machine’s processing and manufacturing process and for obtaining some elementary knowledge of machine manufacturing. Metal Techniques Practice covers many aspects, including hot processing of machine manufacturing, cold processing of machine manufacturing and modern digital processing etc. After taking this course which focuses on practice teaching, the students are able to: understand some basic knowledge and general process of modern machine manufacturing; get familiar with the commonly used processing method of machinery parts, the operational principle, typical mechanism, clamping devices & measuring instruments and safe operation technology of mainly used equipment; comprehend the basic processing knowledge of machine manufacturing, the application of new process, technology and material in modern machine manufacturing; choose processing method for simple parts and analyze relevant processes; independently finish the processing and manufacturing for some simple parts and practice in regulated process experiment (for main specialities). Additionally, this course also aims to establish an engineering concept which takes modern engineering material and manufacturing process as its basis and takes computer and information technology as its media; let the students get familiar with processing drawings, signs and know how to analyze technological conditions; cultivate the overall engineering awareness by fully combining production practice and innovation design; foster the students to bear the following qualities: production quality awareness, economic concept, innovation capability, scientific way of integrating theory with practice; abidance to safe technology operation, love for public properties and courage to practice and so on. Syllabus of Experiments of Mechanics A Course title: Experiments of Mechanics A Total experiment periods: 32 Applicable specialities: engineering mechanics and other majors of material college Laboratory which will offer these experiments: Mechanics Experiment Center I. Purpose and overall requirements of this course 1. Purpose of this course 1) Learn the application method of relevant apparatus and equipment for mechanics experiments; 2) Learn the mechanical properties of material and command relevant technology and method for testing and analyzing the mechanical properties of material; 3) Understand basic principles of mechanics and be able to verify relevant fundamental assumptions, theoretical formulas and approximate calculation methods by experiments; 4) Command the general method for solving practical engineering problems after taking the comprehensive design type of experiment course which features multi-purpose, multi-approach (method) and multiple knowledge points; 5) Train students the ability to make scientific discovery and solve practical engineering application problems through learning the research application type of experiment. II. Overall requirements of this course This course consists of fundamental mechanics experiments, comprehensive design type of experiments and research application type of experiments, with respective experiment purposes as follows: The first level: fundamental mechanics experiments; they are comprised of verification and demonstration experiments, with a purpose to deepen students’ understanding towards mechanical phenomena and principles. The focus of this level is put on the training of basic operation and application method of experiment equipment as well as on handling and analyzing experiments’ results. The second level: comprehensive design type of experiments, with a purpose to enhance students’ ability of analyzing mechanical mechanisms and solving mechanical problems. The focus of this level is put on the comprehensive application of various knowledge points and the autonomous design of experiment programs and on the ability of solving difficulties arising from the experiment independently. The third level: research application type of experiments, with a purpose to widen students’ horizon and lay a foundation for integrating theory with practice. The focus of this level is put on discovering and concluding mechanical problems through scientific research and engineering practice and then coming up with specific solutions and carrying them out on students’ own. This course has a total period of 32. Apart from those required experiments, there are other elective experiments available for the students as long as they can meet the total period requirement. Syllabus of Physical Chemistry B4 Course title: Physical Chemistry B4 Periods/credits: 64/4 Advanced placement: higher mathematics, college physics, inorganic chemistry, analytical chemistry and organic chemistry Applicable specialities: environmental science, environmental engineering, mineral engineering, biological technology, composite material and material physics and so on College, Department (Teaching and Research Division) which will offer the above mentioned course: Physical Chemistry Teaching and Research Division of Applied Chemistry Department of College of Science I. Nature and task of the course Physical Chemistry B4 comes as one of the main courses for students who major in the following specialities: composite material, environmental science, environmental engineering, mineral engineering, pharmaceutical engineering and biological technology etc. Physical Chemistry B4 aims at researching the most common law of chemical change, phase change and relevant physical change via theories and experimental methods of physics and making a study on direction, limit, and velocity and energy conversion law of the above mentioned changes. After taking this course, the students are able to have a good command about the basic theoretical knowledge and calculation method of Physical Chemistry, have a further training for general scientific methods, bear the ability to come up with questions, analyze them and solve them and finally improve their innovation awareness. Syllabus of Chemistry Experiment B4 Course title: Chemistry Experiment B4 Periods/credits: 20/1 Applicable specialities: chemical engineering, environmental science, environmental engineering, mineral processing, biological technology, composite materials and material physics etc; Laboratory which will offer these experiments: Physical chemistry experiment lab chemical experiment center, college of science I. Purpose and requirement of experiment teaching Applicable to students who major in environmental science, environmental engineering, mineral processing, biological technology etc of our college, Chemistry Experiment B4 mainly covers the content of physical chemistry experiment part in the teaching program of basic chemistry. This course plays an important role in helping understand & verify the basic theories of physical chemistry and command & apply relevant basic physical methods and skills of chemistry. According to the requirements of physical chemistry course, we, by adopting self-compiled teaching material, open 7 typical experiments, including thermodynamics, electrochemistry, dynamics and surface chemistry and so on. After taking this course, the students are required to consolidate and deepen their understanding towards the basic principles and theories of physical chemistry; command the basic methods and application of computer in physical chemistry experiments; improve their abilities of practical operation, observation, expression, conclusion, analyzing experiment data and writing scientific report etc; conduct independent work and scientific research and hence have their overall capabilities of scientific research exalted. Nature and task of the course Fundamentals of Materials Engineering serves as one important foundation course of material science and engineering and mainly covers some basic theories and elementary research methods used in the manufacturing process of materials. After taking this course, the students are able to command some elementary concepts, theories and calculation skills of the following aspects: 1. Engineering fluid mechanics; 2. Heat and mass transfer foundations; 3. Fuel and combustion; 4. Basic theories of engineering research method; 5. Engineering research and testing technology; In addition, the student can get to know relevant basic engineering theories used in materials’ manufacturing and bear certain engineering research ability as well. During teaching the course, focus shall be put on training students the ability of abstract thinking, self-teaching and problem analyzing & solving etc through various teaching steps; importance shall also be attached to fostering students’ capabilities of engineering research and making full use of all the knowledge they have learned in practice. Syllabus of Material Engineering Basic Experiment Course title: Material Engineering Basic Experiment Total experiment periods: 90 (three weeks) Applicable specialities: material science and engineering, inorganic non-metallic materials Laboratory which will offer these experiments: Material Experiment Center I. Purpose and requirement of experiment teaching 1. Consolidate the understanding towards materials’ research method and basic theories of material science. Apart from being trained for the integrated application of knowledge, the students will also have a better and further understanding about the elementary knowledge involved in powder engineering, engineering fluid mechanics foundation, heat transfer foundation, fuel and its combustion and engineering research method etc. 2. Understand the fundamental method of material research and the research method of basic engineering and its application Through specific experiment, the students will fully understand the rationale of engineering research method and its application in practice. 3. Foster students the elementary engineering capabilities Importance shall be attached to letting the students command actual operation abilities, learn the basic method of data processing, analyze relevant problems independently, solve practical problems by combining all the theoretical knowledge they have learned and gradually establish engineering awareness. Purpose of the course 1. As a required course for relevant majors, Electric Practice B is a technical foundation course which combines manufacturability and practicality and serves as one of the significant part for students’ engineering training. 2. This course aims at letting the students understand and command some general electronic & electrical techniques & skills and the production reality of electronic products, training their basic operational skills of this field so as to lay a solid and necessary foundation for successive courses (course design and graduation design) and for future engagement in this filed after graduation. The purpose of this course is to let the students understand and command some basic concepts, theories and methods involved in probability and mathematical statistics so as to have them learn the basic ideas and methods for dealing with random phenomena. Nature and task of the course Mechanical design serves as a required foundation course for training students’ mechanical design abilities and a major course in various specialized teaching which focuses on mechanics. Nature and task of the course Introduction to Materials is a subject basic course which will be taught bilingually (Chinese and English). After taking this course, the students are able to comprehend and command some basic concepts & knowledge points and commonly used terms of material science and engineering; in addition, the bilingual teaching can help our students learn certain number of English vocabularies of this major, which will serve as a solid foundation for other successive specialized courses. Nature and task of the course Physics is a subject which studies substance’s basic structure, interaction and the most common movement modes (mechanical movement, thermal movement, electro-magnetic movement and micro particles movement etc.) and the interaction and conversion law of the above mentioned modes. Covering classical physics, modern physics and some elementary knowledge of physics application in science and technology, College Physics, which takes physics’ fundamental information as its main content, is necessary for students who will become a senior engineering technician after graduation. There are two purposes for higher college of science and engineering to open college physics course. First of all, after taking this course, the students are able to have a systematic command about some necessary background (including the main contents involved in mechanics, thermotics, electromagnetics, optics and modern physics etc); secondly, the students can form a scientific way and method for thinking, learning and problem-researching respectively, establish a correct learning attitude and bear the capacity of obtaining knowledge on their own so as to lay a good foundation for updating new theories and technologies in the future. Syllabus of Engineering Graphics B Course title: Engineering Graphics B Periods/credits: 64/4 (including 4 periods of on-computer practice) Advanced placement: None Applicable specialities: non-mechanics specialities College (Section) or Department (Teaching and Research Division) which will offer the above mentioned course: engineering graphics department of mechanical and electrical college I. Nature and task of the course Engineering Graphics B is a subject which studies on how to draft and read engineering drawings and therefore is a required subject basic course for students who major in non-mechanics specialities. Engineering drawings serves as an important tool for expressing and exchanging technical thoughts and also a major technical document of engineering technology field. Built on geometry, Engineering Graphics B comes as an engineering basic course by way of projection theory. After taking this course, the students are able to: 1. Learn how to observe and analyze engineering form and structure by projection method; 2. Command the formation and expression method of engineering form and structure; 3. Learn the fundamental norms and reading method of engineering drawings; 4. Receive the basic training for drafting and reading engineering drawings; 5. Cultivate the ability of imagining thinking and space thinking and bear the pioneering and innovation spirit; 6. Develop a practical, serious and responsible engineering quality. Syllabus of C Programming Language Course title: C Programming Language Periods/credits: 56/3.5 (including 20 periods of on-computer practice) Advanced placement: foundation of computer culture Applicable specialities: computer science & technology and non-computer specialities College (Section) or Department (Teaching and Research Division) which will offer the above mentioned course: computer science department and technology department, college of computer science and technology I. Nature and task of the course C Programming Language serves as both the specialized basic course for students who major in computer science and technology and the required public course for all specialities of the college. This course not only can lay a foundation of programming for other specialized courses, but also can serve as a tool for program design of other specialized courses. After taking this course, the students are able to command some basic knowledge, skills and methods about computer programming, compile well-structured programs and analyze simple programs by C language, get to know how to debug and test a program, have a good understanding about various components of C language, program as required and solve practical problems so as to lay a solid foundation for successive courses. Syllabus of Organic Chemistry B3 Course title: Organic Chemistry B3 Periods/credits: 48/3 Advanced placement: inorganic chemistry Applicable specialities: environmental science, environmental engineering, mineral engineering, chemical engineering, material science and engineering, inorganic and non-metallic material College (Section) or Department (Teaching and Research Division) which will offer the above mentioned course: college of science, applied chemistry department I. Nature and task of the course Organic Chemistry B3 is one required basic theory course for students who major in specialities of science, chemistry, chemical engineering and others which are closely related to chemistry. The purpose of this course is to have our students understand and command some elementary theories of organic chemistry and the important properties of organic compound and so on. After taking this course, the students are required to: 1. Identify various isomeries and write correctly the name and structural formula of common organic compound; 2. Analyze the relationship between the structure and property of organic compound by the structural theory of organic chemistry; 3. Firmly command the important chemical properties of organic compound and the conversion law among compounds, analyze the reaction mechanism and come up with identification and separation methods for simple organic compounds; 4. Choose proper path and method to synthesize simple organic compounds; 5. Deduce the structures of simple organic compounds by making use of chemical and spectral methods (infrared and nuclear magnetic resonance spectrum). Syllabus of Experiments of Chemistry B3 Course title: Experiments of Chemistry B3 Periods/credits: 20/1 Applicable specialities: environmental science, environmental engineering, mineral engineering, material science, inorganic and non-metallic material, chemical engineering etc. Laboratory which will offer these experiments: chemistry experiment center of college of science I. Purpose and requirement of experiment teaching Being a major component of organic chemistry’s teaching, organic chemistry experiment plays a very important role in training our students the ability of practical operation and of analyzing and solving problems. The task of experiment course lies not only in verifying and consolidating what the students have learned in theory courses, but also in training our students the ability of practical operation and of analyzing and solving problems, helping the students form a good experiment method and working habit and establish a scientific attitude (being practical and realistic) and a serious working style. So the teaching purpose of this course is to have our students command the basic operational skills of organic chemistry experiment so that they can have certain compound prepared with micro scale, then characterize the prepared compound by physical and chemical methods and write a qualified experiment report. The specific requirements go as follows: 1. Basic operational skills The students are required to correctly command the following: cleaning and drying of glassware; proper installation and usage of ground glassware; heating and cooling; backflow, distillation and fractionization; absorption of harmful gas; proper usage of motor stirrer; extraction and washing; recrystallization and filtration (hot filtration and depression filtration); drying of liquid and solid organic substance; and measurement of melting points and so on. 2. Comprehensive experiment With a basic content of the preparation of organic compound, comprehensive experiment requires our students command the preparation principle of organic compound, synthesize, separate and purify certain compound with those basic operation skills they have already learned, and simply characterize the prepared compound through physical and chemical methods. 3. Experiment report Being an indispensable part of the experiment, the experiment report is for summarizing the whole experiment process, analyzing problems arising from the experiment and finally concluding the results. It also serves as an effective measure to exalt the direct perceptual knowledge up to rational knowledge. So our students are required to finish the experiment report according to certain criteria. Generally speaking, the experiment report of organic chemistry consists of the following mentioned parts: (1) purposes and requirements; (2) reaction principles; (3) dosage and specifications of raw material; (4) physical constant of reactant and resultant; (5) instruments and devices; (6) experiment steps; (7) experiment records; (8) production rate calculation; (9) discussion about problems and so on, among which, parts (1)-(6) are required to be finished before the experiment, part (7) shall be done during the experiment while parts (8) & (9) shall be completed after the experiment. Syllabus of Chemistry Experiment A2 Course title: Chemistry Experiment A2 Periods/credits: 40/2.5 Applicable specialities: environmental engineering, environmental science and mineral engineering etc. Laboratory which will offer these experiments: chemistry experiment center of college of science I. Nature and task of the course This course is to, by way of experiment teaching, consolidate students’ understanding about some elementary chemistry principle, train students’ basic skills of analyzing chemical experiment with basic knowledge and have them command the basic methods and skills of analyzing chemical experiment, and help our students form a scientific way o thinking and the all-round ability of research.
