However, years of English teaching has been neglected in English communicative. So, if we want to learn English well, what we should know first is to find out why we cannot study well, unwillingness? Neglect? or any other reasons ? I make a analyze about the obstacle of studying oral English and give some advices . Hope this will help you improve your oral English. Key words : oral English 、accumulate、 exercise 、courage 、interest How to improve the oral English of college students Introduction With the development of the world ,English as an international communication language has play an important row ,and oral English take the first place of the five abilities of English ,because its straightforward way to achieve the purpose of direct communication. 1. the importance of studying English 1.1 The 21st century, china is a social life of information technology and the globalization of economic activities in china. Communication tool as an international language, especially English, has become a global language. English in the world?s scientific and technological progress, international trade and culture exchanges in various fields such as self-evident in an important position. so if you can handle English well ,you will have more chances when facing job. 1.2 the world?s culture are extensive and profound , also Chinese culture have 5000 years ,it?s still just a small part of the whole world . if we want to know the world better ,we should to learn the world?s culture through books/internet/newspaper ect. English will help you ,although we can learn them with translate version,but this may lost something.it can?t give the essence of the culture, when you use English well ,you can learn the difference of the world better. 1.3 no matter we like it or not, we will receive lots of messages everyday. If you can control, you can handle the useful messages. it?s said ,the successful people have one thing in common :once they major in English or have high abilities about English .for example Mayun /Yuminghong ,English broaden their horizon ,give them a higher step to know the world . 2. the five abilities of studying English As we all know ,there are five abilities of studying English : listening speaking reading writing translation . listening is harder then reading , speaking is harder than writing . as to reading and writing ,the words are there on the paper ,while listening and speaking , the words just spread in your mind . and translation is too professional, maybe we have no relation with it . from this ,we can make a conclusion : listening and speaking are important while speaking, is the hardest and most important . 3. the obstacle of studying English We all know the important of speaking ability, while , years of English teaching has been neglected in English communicative at present . although there are a lot of schools have been gradually changed the past “deaf dumb” in English conditions , due to many factors ,most of the schools have a low degree of emphasis on oral teaching , just from reading and writing ,grammar teaching start doing the theme from the English leaning process to resolve the problem, get high marks is the science education . this teaching can actually get high marks ,but they lost a lot of invisible things. As a leader of English Communication Club ,I have deep feeling about this, I want to improve the oral English ability of the members, but I find it?s really not an easy job. 3.1 good pronunciation is the most important thing when you talk about oral English ,and I find many college students should improve their pronunciation .I compiled an introductory tone of tenders, a phonetic transcription with five word and there sentences. then give them right pronunciation and let them to practice . if your first English teacher?s pronunciation is good and you don?t have heavy local accent ,I?d like to say : congratulation, while if not , you may have to spend more energy to get a good pronunciation . 3.2 courage Survey of emotional factors .such as : „fear of error? ,”lack of confidence? is an important constraint. Some students are shy ,and they say as little as they can . moreover ,except the psychological factors of students ,teachers wrong attitude and error correction strategies are the reason why the students fear of the error. Most teachers give students a low tolerance for mistakes ,and care about the correctness of form too much , so when the students are in their speech , the teacher constantly interrupt and correct them . that makes them too embarrassed to say anything even though they are right . 3.3 recite When you have good pronunciation and courage to show off, but you may find the English you control can not express your idea well. at English corner ,we always meet this kind of condition ,when we give a topic, we can not have a thorough exchange of view because vocabulary is not enough ,so we have to change our topics to continue the communication .recite will help you . 4.methods of improve studying oral English 4.1 for solving the existing voice problems, one should target at intensive training. first ,strengthen pronunciation training. classify and contract the English language phonetic until the student make each one sound right. Second ,strengthen the training of speech flow . emphasis on the world in accentuating, the weak reading and voice-rheological phenomena for inductive analysis. So that students understand and are familiar with voice on the basis of speech flow to improve the level of oral communication. Third ,focus on clarifying the difference between anglo and American voice. In general ,the tone of English English is much flatter , speed is slower and rhythm is more gentle. 4.2 practice When we make sure we have right pronunciation ,next we should try to do more exercise. 4.2.1 imitation The key of verbal learning is to imitate other people?s words . imitation is the easiest and most useful way to help you to get the point. imitation includes two parts: :voice and tone. Teaching English in china pay very little attention to intonation ,though the tone is more important than voice.. You?d better buy a tape recorder and find a tape together. Depending on your lever, you can choose the new concept of second or third books . you can also go to library through a set of books and tapes of short story collection, download them from internet English website is another useful way. Note :be sure to have the book, the story of space can not be too long, new words and amount should be small, too simple does not matter. I tent to use the story rather then dialogue or news listening material. Follow to read the listening material. Release the tape ,look at books ,understand the meaning of each word and the whole story thoroughly .then put a pause to repeat what is heared. In the process to pay attention to several points: a. try to imitate the pronunciation and intonation ,the more like the better. b. Make your own pace to keep up with author?s speed. c. Return down the middle of playback, repeat the sentences you can not understand. d. Synchronization to read. After grasping the pronunciation and intonation we should follow to read simultaneously while recording, strive to make the voice in super position completely. pay attention to the tone and voice. e. Turn off the tape recorder ,and read texts. Note that use the learned pronunciation and intonation. Proceed to the next one text when you are very familiar with it. 4.2.2 daily chat Everyday?s conversation are informal and verbal. Doing to English corner usually and chatting with people with English, is an effective way to practice English .but before chatting , you?d better prepare for it. Including understanding topics, looking up the words which may involved in. prepare for dozens of commonly used sentence patterns. After the conversation, make a summary and go over it regularly ,only in this way there can be greater benefits in chatting of each time. 4.2.3 maybe sometimes you can not find a friend to make a small conversation ,don?t worry about it, you can talk to yourself. This kind of chatting can take in every time and everywhere .maybe you?re shy to speak out with others. Self-dialogues is a good choice for you to practice. But you?d better not afraid of losing face. To learn English ,the biggest enemy is ourselives, in particular ,our own “face” . we should put our face in pocket and then to practice. 4.3 accumulation If we want to have a good conversation, we should do some accumulation. Recitement will help us.following is some ways about recitement a. recite a large number of authentic single-sentence, dialogue and living idiom.whenever there is a unknown word or sentence, record it in your own notes,then update and review them regularly.when I meet beautiful sentences , I?d like to cope it down in my note or a small card,and read it loudly ,fastly and clearly at any time. I feel it?s a good way to accumulation. b. The daily recitation of the materical should always be repeated .then show them off with imagination. show them off then they become yours. c. Keep a diary this habit seems the writing exercise, in fact , it is a magic bullet of spoken practice .when u write something .your brain is violently doing gymnastics in English at the same time .thinking in English is advanced training methods of spoken. I insist on writing diary in English and this really help me a lot to improve my English abilities. d. Reading newspaper, magazines and all kinds of stories,essays in a large number.then repeat them out .repeat the same article of work should be repeated rolling. e. Try to think in English for everyday?s activties, try to translation every sentences your read or hear into English , this maybe a little difficult ,but if you spend some time to do this kind of practice , you will get a surprise . 5. recommendation 5.1 improve the efficiency of the class , and enrich extracurricular activities. In college ,English teaching seems meaningless, at the class, most of the students are fall asleep or do other work, maybe we should change our teaching style to raise interest ,give the students a feeling that it?s more worth learning follow the teacher in this class than do any other works . 5.2 establish the network-based vocabulary mode,supplement the useful daily world to relieve spoken English from the lack of obstacles. In our vocabulary teaching and learning process should make the word with the word ,vocabulary and semantic network form ，so that students will think of the actual expression of the term in a net work rather than a point. It should also be an appropriate increase in the teaching of vocabulary related to daily life so that students will not only say but also be able to smooth out the natural English . 5.3 change the ways of thinking to improve oral expression of speed and accuracy. Training students to express a language information, it should not be immediately thought of the Chinese language with its counterpart, but the signal of English language form and retrieve according to its mix of what the next signal, and then link these signals, the composition of the meaning clear, grammatically correct statements. 6. the conclusion It is no doubt that oral English is important and useful, so we need to learn it well. using the ways of English study ,and do your best to insist on it, I am sure your English will be better and better. If you can keep up with this, it won?t be long, you will find that more and more person praise you and you can enjoy your conversation better. that is to say, your pronunciation and hearing ability has a remarkable improvement. combined with other learning, such as chatting with people, watching television,listening to the radio,etc. spoken language level will be significantly enhanced.
