To procrastinate, then, is to delay doing something until some future time, and a procrastinator is someone who is always putting off what he or she should be doing right now. Those of us who are more likely to form the habit of procrastinating know that it is a terrible habit. Every day we tell ourselves that we must start doing things immediately, and each day we postpone our work, are late for deadlines, and put off keeping our promises to other people. Because we are always in the process of procrastinating, we are also always trying to catch up. We are always doing yesterday’s jobs today, and tomorrow we will be doing today’s unfinished work. There are people who seldom procrastinate. They are highly efficient and well organized, and they seem to get everything done on time. I guess that they never leave home in the morning before they make the bed, never go to sleep at night before they finish their work, always answer their mails in time, and are never late for appointments. As a result, they are probably always one step ahead of you and me! Maybe the way to overcome procrastination is to change our habits gradually. We can start with a daily schedule of the things we want or need to finish. But let’s be reasonable. We shouldn’t crowd the list with too many tasks, and we should be realistic about what we can do. Especially in the beginning we should be kind with ourselves. After all, if we get discouraged at the start, we will go right back to our old habits. Finally, if we begin to follow our own schedule for each day, we will stop postponing the chores(琐事) that face us. Life will become far less complicated and each day will be easier to face. We will undoubtedly feel better about ourselves, too, because we will know that we can overcome our weakness and improve ourselves. 49. The video, released online on Monday, showed host Bi Fujian using vulgar words about Chairman Mao Zedong while singing in the style of Peking Opera, enraging(激怒) some netizens and causing a stir on the Internet. CCTV said on its micro blog on Wednesday that it will investigate the incident, which it said many have found disturbing. Bi’s programs will stop being broadcast until at least Sunday, as his comments in the video have seriously damaged the broadcaster’s image, Huaxi Metropolis Daily quoted a CCTV staff member as saying. The CCTV employee said it is uncertain whether the programs can be broadcast again after Sunday, the report added. Bi, 56, is popular for a hosting style that engages the audience. He has hosted the CCTV Spring Festival Gala since 2012, as well as a popular talent show involving Westerners speaking Chinese. The cancellation(取消) was the first decision after Nie Chenxi was named CCTV president on Tuesday, the report said, adding that Nie had ordered all staff members to strictly correct work styles. A micro-blogger named Zhou Junchi said that free speech doesn’t mean it is OK to defame others, adding that Bi’s comments were not proper for a popular host. Cheng Manli, a professor specializing in communication at Peking University, echoed Zhou, saying Bi should pay more attention to his behavior and speech as a public figure. "It does not mean we cannot share our opinions, but using ugly words and sarcasm to comment on Chinese leaders who have passed away is improper," Cheng said. "The actions and words of celebrities(名人) are easily broadened in today’s Internet era, which is open and can have a huge influence, so it is a must for the public figures to boost the quality of their speech and behavior. Otherwise, their images will be affected, such as the stars who were recently punished for drug use," she said. "Everyone should take responsibility for what he or she says in public and online. It’s better, I think, to share different ideas in a normal way," she suggested. But she added that the party in the video seemed private, "so its release is also improper to some extent." The video was recorded by someone sitting on Bi’s right, but who it is and why the video was put online is unknown. 57. According to the passage, CCTV’s response when the incident happened was ______. A. to look into the matter B. to have Bi Fujian fired C. to change his job D. to make him apologize 58. We can learn from the passage that _______. A. Bi Fujian’s program will be stopped forever B. Huaxi Metropolis Daily thinks the incident damages CCTV’s image C. the video was recorded when Bi Fujian was working in a programme D. the incident happened before the new CCTV president’s arrival 59. As is mentioned in the passage, Chen Manli holds the view that________. A. Bi Fujian should be severely punished B. public figures should not share their opinions C. a celebrity’s influence can be enlarged through the Internet D. it is all right to release private video of a celebrity 60. The underlined word “boost” probably means “_________”. A. improve B. cover C. influence D. solve D When I was young, I did not have a care in the world. I used to play with the other kids, and I used to run around like any other child. During this time, when I felt like everyone else, my mom started noticing things I did. I as a small child could not tell my right from my left. I would always mix up cellar and attic, and the front and back yard. When I was in 3rd grade my teacher also noticed things like that and talked to my parents about being tested. My mom, recalling what took place since I was little, thought it was a perfect idea. Being in 3rd grade you want nothing more than to be considered “normal.” We had students who were going to the resource room and were labeled as “stupid” or “slow.” So of course I became very frustrated when my mom brought the idea up to me. Well, I went for the testing and found that I was learning disabled. In the beginning I used to hide it and not tell anyone where I was going. I made up lies and told them I was being tested for a new kind of program. I attended the resource center from 3rd to 6th grade. The whole time, I felt “odd” or “dump.” In 7th and 8th it was a lot easier for me to hide my disability and disregard mistakes. By high school I started coming clean with my disability. It happened when a couple of kids were making fun of one of my friends who was learning disabled. They were calling him names and pushing him. I of course was nervous but something in me decided to tell them that I was also, and if they had a problem they could deal with me. I scared out of my mind and let out my secret. In doing so, I thought they would start making fun of me, but they actually were surprised. They started actually asking questions because to them, I was one of the smart kids, so I could not be “stupid.” I found out that the problem was that they just did not know about learning disabilities, because they could not see the disability, so how could they understand it? That was a major change in my life. After that moment, I went to our guidance department and asked if I could start talking to students who were just identified as learning disabled. So, a couple of times a week I would talk to students about what they were going through, and coach them through the different emotions and thoughts they had. In fact, when I was a junior and senior in high school, I did a presentation to the new incoming students and then to the whole high school. There were a number of students who came up to me after, and said they never knew what we went through, or how the disability affects people. In college I conducted similar presentations to perspective, new, and current students. Through that one experience it has helped me learn that people still need to learn about learning disabilities, and need to be aware of the needs and services they can receive. Now, I am 25 and I work for a college and am the Coordinator of Student Development and Campus Programming. I have just started my Masters in Organizational Management and have talked to a number of people about my disabilities. I in fact help my own co-workers to understand what a learning disability is, and how to look for signs. So, the best advice is not to be afraid, and instead of hiding it, rejoice(庆幸). I always found when I received an A, it meant more to me than my friend who did not have a disability. That grade showed me that I can do anything no matter what obstacles I need to overcome. The best thing that ever happened to me, was not winning in sports, not graduating from college, not even getting married; it is every time I can change the way people think about people with a Learning Disability. One person can make a difference and I am a perfect example of that. 61. It was ________that the writer really realized that he had learning disability. A. when his mother found that he could not tell right from left B. long before he started school C. when he attended the resource center D. after he received a testing in grade 3 62. When the writer told his classmates about his disability, the kids ______. A. began to make fun of him B. felt the writer must be joking C. thought they had been cheated D. suggested the writer change his life 63. What did the writer decide to do when he made his disability public? A. He made up his mind to study hard B. He helped schools to cure the disability C. He made people around understand the disability D. He raised some money for the people related 64. What might be the best title of the passage? A. Change the world one step at a time B. When children are as young as a year old, parents can do simple activities such as crumpling up paper and calling it a “ball.” By elementary school, students can use descriptive words to discuss their own creations or to talk about what feelings are elicited when they see different styles of artwork. 66. ________________ According to a report by Americans for the Arts, art education strengthens problem-solving and critical-thinking(评判性思维) skills. The experience of making decisions and choices in the course of creating art carries over into other parts of life. “If they are exploring and thinking and experimenting and trying new ideas, then creativity has a chance to blossom,” says MaryAnn Kohl, an arts educator and author of numerous books about children’s art education. 67. ________________ As we live in a society full of increasingly diverse cultures , the images of different groups in the media may also present mixed cultural messages. “If a child is playing with a toy that suggests a racist or sexist meaning, part of that meaning develops because of the aesthetics of the toy—the color, shape, texture of the hair,” says Freedman. Teaching children to recognize the choices an artist or designer makes in portraying a subject helps kids understand the concept that what they see may be someone’s interpretation of reality. 68. ________________ Studies show that there is a correlation between art and other achievement. A report by Americans for the Arts states that young people who participate regularly in the arts (three hours a day on three days each week through one full year) are four times more likely to be recognized for academic achievement, to participate in a math and science fair or to win an award for writing an essay or poem than children who do not participate. 455 A. I don’t like hiking. But you could ask Helen. She likes hiking. Text 3 M: Yesterday we went to Daisy’s house to listen to some records. W: I heard she has more than a hundred pop records, is that true? Text 4 M: What was the weather like during your Easter holidays? W: We were very lucky. When we got on board the plane, it was raining, but when we arrived in Paris, the sun was shining. And it stayed perfect the whole time. Text 5 W: He never brought my second drink. M: I know. And I can never catch his eye to remind him. W: There’s no way that I’m leaving a tip for this guy! Text 6 W: Guess who came to eat at my restaurant last night? M: Was it someone famous? W: The actor Robert De Gucci. M: Who is that? I really don’t know those famous guys. My TV broke about five years ago, and I haven’t had one since. W: I can’t believe you haven’t had a TV for five years! I can’t live without TV. M: As long as I have a computer, I can keep track of the news. And now I have time to read more books. I think life is pretty great without TV. Text 7 M: Did you see this small object I found? W: Where did you get that? M: From this box. Your mother has always been saving old things in it. What a collection of junk! For a person who likes everything extremely clean, she sure let everything get dirty. W: Look! Here’s my old pingpong paddle! And my grandfather’s watch! I haven’t seen that in years. I always liked the crossing lines on the back. Listen. It still works! Hear it ticking? It’s still in excellent shape. I’m so excited that my parents are coming here next week. I know they’re going to love their new grandchild. M: I just hope they have the energy to play with him. W: Oh, they’re both full of energy. They absolutely love the sound of children around the house, too. Text 8 W: Hi, Michael. What are you doing here? M: I’m updating my blog. Have a look. W: It looks so cool! M: Thanks. But you know, I am really bad at computers. So I asked one of my friends to make this for me. W: How often do you go online? M: Well, it depends. Basically, I go online every day to check my email and see what new movies are coming out. W: What’s your favorite website? M: Artland.com. W: What’s it about? M: Lots of stuff, mainly music and modern art. W: Do you chat online? M: No. It’s a waste of time. I have some friends who do. They talk to people far away, but it’s boring. Nothing is real in those chat rooms. W: I guess so. Well, tell me your email so that we can write to each other. M: OK. Here it is. LoveDrew1983@yahoo.com. Write to me. W: You bet. Byebye. M: Bye. Text 9 W: What do you guys usually do for fun? M: We go out to dinner, or sing karaoke. Do Americans do those things? W: Not really. Going out to dinner is much more expensive in the US than it is in China, so college students more often meet their friends at the university dining hall or at someone’s house to have dinner. M: What about karaoke? W: Karaoke isn’t nearly as popular in the West as it is in Asia. I think Chinese people in general are much less shy about singing. In America there’s kind of a sense that you should only sing if you’re a good singer, but in China everybody sings. M: So what do American college students do on the weekends? W: For better or worse, a lot of what American college students do on a Friday or Saturday night centers around drinking. M: Like going out to bars and clubs? W: Yes, and house parties too. M: What else do you do besides drink? W: Haha, I don’t want to make it sound like we’re all alcoholics or something. There are plenty of people who don’t drink, and even for those who do, going to bars or parties is more about hanging out with your friends or meeting new people. Our loved ones are always there to support you. us 八、书面表达(共1大题;满分20分) One possible version: As is often the case, with the approaching of May Day holiday, a lot of people have expressed their dissatisfaction with the current arrangement. They advocate that the holiday should be lengthened from the current three days to seven days. As far as I am concerned, I strongly support the suggestion and the following reasons can well account for it. For one thing, should we have a relatively long May Day holiday, we could have ourselves fully relaxed, which to some degree will guarantee us to get refreshed and well prepared for the future studies. For another, we can have a flexible schedule and more chances to get close to society and nature, and thus not only can we expand our horizons but also obtain some updated knowledge that can hardly be learned from textbooks. In a word, the advantages of lengthening the holiday far outweigh its disadvantages.
