There are some continent’s outline, and say out their names. 在新课之前,先看一些大陆轮廓的图片,请说出它们的名称。 This map shows us the distribution of the lands & oceans. But long time ago was the distribution of the lands & oceans like that? Now we know the answer is ―no‖, but at that time many people thought ―yes‖. 这张图片是目前的海陆分布图。很久以前海陆是这样分布的吗?现在我 们知道不是的,但以前的人认为是的。 Look at this picture, one day the German scientist Wegener was sick. When he was lying on the bed, he looked at the world map that was hung on the wall. He found the America & the Africa continent could be joined together. Then he wanted to find out the proof to prove his suppose. (Watch the video) 看下一张图,一天德国科学家魏格纳生病了,他躺在床上,正好对着挂 在墙上的世界地图。看着看着他发现美洲和非洲大陆好像可以拼凑在一起。接着 他就寻找证明这一想法的证据。 The theory of Continental Drift There was only one continent on the earth which was ocean around it 300 million years ago. About 200 million years ago, this continent began to split. Finally there were many continents as we know now. We know the same plants & animals may live in the same place. This map shows us the Volcano-Earthquake Belts in the world. Say out the location of the belts. We can see the belts are along the coastline. In the Belt between Asia &Pacific Ocean. 日本的地理位置在亚洲和太平洋之间。 The theory of Plate Tectonics 1. Six large Plates. The scientists found there are large plates along the belts: the Eurasian, America, Africa, Indian, Pacific and Antarctic Plates. Each plate was mainly made up of continent and ocean. And the Pacific Plate is almost made up of ocean. (In the large plate, there would be some small plates: Nazca…) 科学家总结出在这条带周围有六大板块:亚欧板块、美洲板块、非 洲板块、印度洋板块、太平洋板块和南极洲板块。每一块板块都由大陆及其附近 的海洋组成,除了太平洋板块几乎由海洋组成。(在大的板块中还有一些小的板 块:比如纳兹卡等) 2. The movement of plates The movement of plates causes the changes of the land & ocean, for example the continental drift and the form of major landforms. 板块的运动引起了海陆的变化,例如大陆的漂移,主要地形的形成等。 Watch this flash, is the Ocean larger or smaller between these continents? Look at this flash, carefully, watch the movement of the continents. Do you know which continents they are? On the last map, there are the distribution of land & Ocean now. Great Rift Valley 大西洋、东非大裂谷; (watch the video: the Himalaya) The theory of Plate tectonics shows us that the continent floats with the movement of the plate which includes this continent and oceanic crust below. And usually the volcanoes & earthquakes happen at the plate’s boundary. 板块运动理论告诉我们:大陆的漂移和板块的运动还包括了陆壳及洋 壳。一般来说火山和地震会出现在板块的边缘。 Take out the exercise, find out the reasons that the form of the mountains.
