Gettysburg Address
November 19， 1863
Four score and seven years ago our fathers brought forth on this continent, a new nation, conceived in Liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal.
Now we are engaged in a great civil war, testing whether that nation, or any nation so conceived and so dedicated, can long endure. We are met on a great battle-field of that war. We have come to dedicate a portion of that field, as a final resting place for those who here gave their lives that that nation might live. It is altogether fitting and proper that we should do this.
But, in a larger sense, we can not dedicate—we can not consecrate—we can not
hallow—this ground. The brave men, living and dead, who struggled here, have consecrated it, far above our poor power to add or detract. The world will little note, nor long remember what we say here, but it can never forget what they did here. It is for us the living, rather, to be dedicated here to the unfinished work which they who fought here have thus far so nobly advanced.

八十七年前，我们的父辈在这片大陆上建立了一个新的国家，这个国家孕育于自

它成为圣地,,我们没有能力把它变为人们敬仰之所。那些在这里战斗的勇士，
不论是活着的还是死去的，早已神圣化了这块土地，远远超过我们的菲薄之力所
能增减。世人将不会留意，更不会长久记住我们在此地所说的话，但是他们将永
远不会忘记勇士们在此的事迹。然而，正应该是我们活着的人来投身于那些曾在
此作战的人们所英勇推动且尚未完成的工作。正应该是我们来投身于我们面前所
留存的伟大工作,,从他们的光荣牺牲中，我们更加努力致力于他们曾为之奉献
最后全部的这个事业,,我们在此立下誓愿:这些逝者不会白白死去,,这个国
家，在上帝的佑护之下，将会使自由得到新生,,而且这样一个由人民组成的政
府，由人民管理的政府，为人民做事的政府，将永远不会从地球上消失。
