Topic131 Do you agree or disagree with the followingstatement?Only people who earn a lot of money are successful. [托福参看范文]Topic:131Isit true that only people who earn a lot of money aresuccessful?Recently the controversy has been brought into focus. We cannot denythe fact that money is one of the yardsticks againstwhich how muchone has achieved is measured. However, in starkcontrast, manypeople would rather stick to an opposite view.Therhetoric that onlywhen people have earned a colossal sum of moneycan they be regardedsuccessful is not only unreasonable, unconvincing, or misleading butalso absurd and ridiculous in thatit has obviously neglected thecelebrated scientists, sociologist, psychologists, philosophers andanthropologists who may have neverhad enough money to live acomfortable and convenient life yet theyare virtually successful. For instance, Albert Einstein, Thegreatest physicist of the20thcentury who created the theory ofrelativity and was awarded theNobel Prize, was immune to becomingwealthy.Besides, not all wealthypeople are successful. A good casein point is that in West China, some farmers cut down millions oftrees each year and sell thetimber at a high price. As a result, environment has beendevastated. Innocent people have to sufferfloods and airpollutions. Although the farmers are rich, they arenever successfulbut guilty.Last but not the least, besides money, there exists adiverse array of other calibrations to measure onesachievement. The society awards its mrs in different ways. As longas one makescontributions to the society, he or she would earnrespects.Takingaccount of all these factors, we may easily reachthe conclusion.Undeniably, people who disagree with the statementhave a muchstronger argument. Besides the wealthy, other peoplecould also beregarded successful.Topic: 131Nowadays, many peoplewho are livingin the material world tend to believe that money issynonymous withsuccess, and thus only people who earn a lot ofmoney aresuccessful. But is it the case? I beg to differ. On onehand, theriches are not necessarily successful. To some extent, wecan notconsider an officer who was charged for his abusing hisauthorityfor personal gains successful, nor can we call a rich manwho wascenter dying without care, while his sons were quarrellingforbigger share of his legacy a successful person.A person’ssuccess ismeasured by, as far as I am concerned, a good reputationin thecommunity, a desirable role in the family, and satisfactionwhichcomes from within. On the other hand, not only those who earna lotof money are successful. Numerous people who are universallydeemedto be successful not because they make big bucks. AneasternOrthodoxy sister of great altruism, Mother Theresa threwthis eagervitality of hers into a vehement striving after thesocial welfareof the needy and won the Nobel Prize; Michelangeloachievedimmortal with his painting and sculpture, Beethoven withhis music.Outside the spotlight, even common civilians live theirrespectivelife of success, seldom of which have something to dowith largepurse. Doctors are respectable with their patients, teachers withtheir students. It is manifest from the above argumentthat theproposition” only people who earn a lot of money aresuccessful” isstill subjected to serious reconsideration.Topic:131Many peoplebelieve that a large income equals success. Ibelieve, however, that success is more than how much money you make. Some of thosemeasures of success include fame, respect, andknowledge.Mostpeople assume that famous people are rich people, butthat isntalways true. For example, some day I would like to be afamousresearcher. Few scientists are rich by todays standards.Still, Iwill feel myself to be successful if lam well-known.Additionally,there are many famous humanitarians who are not rich.MotherTheresa was one. Certainly, no one would say she wasnotsuccessful.I also believe that being respected bycoworkersindicates success. Without that respect, money meanslittle. Forexample, I once did some work for a top attorney in alaw firm. Hemade a very good salary, but he wasnt a nice man. Noone ever didwork for him willingly. He ordered everyone around, andwe didntrespect him. In contrast, however, I had a wonderful banddirectorin high school. He had to take extra jobs just to makeenough moneyto support his family. However, his students had greatrespect forhim and always listened to what he said. As a result, wewere avery good band. In my opinion, my band director was moresuccessfulthan the attorney was. Finally, I think one of the mostimportantindicators of success is knowledge. Wealthy people dontknow allthe answers. For example, in the movie Good Will Hunting, the onlyperson who could solve some complex problems was thejanitor. Heknew a lot, and decided what he wanted to do with thatknowledgerather than just think about money. In my opinion, he wasextremelysuccessful. When we think of history, there are few peoplethat weremr simply because they were rich. Overall, we remr peoplewho didsomething with their lives-they were influential inpolitics, orcontributed to science or art or religion. If historyis theultimate judge of success, then money surelyisnteverything.Topic: 131Since peoples criteria for successdiffer, there is much debate over whether only those who make a lotofmoney are successful. As far as I am concerned, in todayssocietywhich stresses on individual achievement, money provides thebestevaluation of ones accomplishment. To begin with, as astandardizedmeasurement used for comparing values, money is tiverather thansubjective, so it is considered an authentic reflectionof onesachievement. As different people hold differentunderstandings ofsuccess, assessing the amount of ones earningshas becomeuniversally accepted as a rule to measure ones success. Each year,Fortune Magazine publishes a special issue to rank thetop 100 mostsuccessful people throughout the world according totheir yearlyincome, because there is no other methods to rely on.Inaddition, the amount of money one makes is the consequence of oneshard workand talent. To deny the accomplishment wealth brings isequal todeny the sources from which it springs. In the past, Ionlybelieved in spiritual values and then leapt rashly totheconclusion that the best thing in life involves no money at all.Itis my uncle who showed me the significance of money and changedmyopinion. He told me he respected money and made it a goal tostrivefor in his way towards success. Because he would have to payaprice for it in terms of time, thought and energy. Gradually,Icame to realize it is the mental and physical labor he devotesinthe process of making money that paves his wayforself-accomplishment, and thus deserves appreciationandrespect. Finally, money is the most powerful possession inoneslifetime. As everyone knows, success is the ability to dowhateverone wants to and to be satisfied with oneself. There ishardlyanything that can be done without a certain amount ofmoney.Indeed, with money, one can meet his or her material demandinlife, such as taking effective medicines, living inmagnificenthouses, eating various delicious food, and so on. Also, with money, one can do a lot of meaningful things tobenefit others, such asdonations to poor people. All these will not only satisfyonesneed for personal fulfillment, but also add grandness toonessuccess. In conclusion, money serves as a measurement ofonesachievement. But we should keep in mind that only those whoobtainmoney by hardworking and use it to benefit the society arereallysuccessful. “成千上万人疯狂下载。。。。。。 更多价值连城的绝密英语学习资料, 洛基内部秘密英语,技巧,策略 请在 网上 申请报名”
