Endless reboot loop
From time to time, a CX-Series array can get stuck in a seemingly endless reboot loop. Although the software has failsafe mechanisms to protect against this, occasionally the timing of certain panics may occur after the reboot count has been cleared, thus defeating the failsafe mechanisms. Contact your support provider for assistance. Support personnel can use a procedure to break out of the reboot loop so the problem can be debugged. The procedure requires logging in to the storage processor (SP).
For Technical Support Personnel. This procedure works on all CX arrays, but there is an easier procedure starting in r12.:
1. Bring up a HyperTerminal window to the SP in question. 2. Break into the power-on self test (POST) by hitting when the alphabetic portion starts displaying.
3. Enter the POST password ("GO_sox" or "DB_key" - depending on your revision of POST).
4. Select "Enter Debugger" from the Debugger prompt and enter:
"mm ffe80004"
5. Type
"5 ."
Note: After you enter "mm address" to modify a memory address in Step 4, you must enter a value. The value in this case is any number greater than 4. When you enter 5, ("5 ."), the dot terminates the line.
6. Type:
menu
7. From the menu, select "reboot SP."
8. The SP should come up in degraded mode.
1. The POST password should be SHIP_it (R12 or newer) or DB_key
(R11 or older)
2. The only problem with this method is that it may not work if you are
in the middle of an NDU. Beginning in R13, you can modify a
different address to explicitly "force degraded mode". TS2 may
contact engineering for this information.
