Baomo Garden宝墨园英文导游词 Ladies and gentrlmen,welcome to Baomo Garden. Baomo Garden,located in Zini Village of Panyu District,covers an area of 5,ooo square meters and combines Bao Zheng Culture,ancient architectural art,and Lingnan Garden in one.It was formed as an extension to the Bao Zheng Residence Temple,which was originally established in order to praise Bao Zheng.The two brick folk carvings in front of the gate have fine workmanship and reflect the fairness of Bao Zheng.There are also many lime carvings,stone carvings,padauk carvings, pottery sculptures, and traditional palace lanterns in Baomo Garden. The wall at the entrance, built with over 30,000 dark bricks, is a “screen wall”. Its function is to avoid exposure of the scenes in the garden. On its facade are carved more than 600 birds, insects as well as flowers and trees. The carvings stand for vitality and prosperity. On the reverse side are carvings of calligraphy by Wang Xizhi, a best –known calligrapher of the Jin Dynasty. Now we arrive at The Hall of Ruling Foundation,which was built in honor of Bao Zheng.Bao Zheng was an offcial of Song Dynasty who was known and held in high esteem for being upright, incorruptible, straight and fair. The name of the hall was after a poem by him, “The foundation of ruling a country is officials being incorruptible and upright.” A Chinese painting”Lotus Flower”,symbolizing Bao’s noble spirits is hung at the centre of the hall.There is a couplet by its sides praising him for the restoration of justice and an upright law executor,relief multitudes of people in disaster. On the right side of the hall there is a wooden tablet with the Chinese characters”Baomo Garden”inscribed on it. It’s made of wood unearthed from a Western Han tomb. At the back of the hall there is a granite tablet with”Baomo Garden” inscribed as well, which is the only remnant of the original garden. Both Baomo Hall and Longtu Hall were also built in honor of Bao Zheng. A portrait of Bao in red official robe is hung at the centre of Baomo Hall.In opera or drama,he is often portrayed with a black face and a white crescent shaped birthmark on his forehead. Due to his fame and the strength of his reputation,Bao’s name became synonymous with the idealized ”honest and upright offical”,and quickly became a popular subject of early vernacular drama and literature. After visiting The Long Corridor, Zidong Boat,you will be amazed by visiting a large-scale mural of porcelain sculture which was inspired by the original painting “Peace Reigns over the River”,a panoramic painting by Song Dynasty artist Zhang Zeduan. The mural is 63m long and 7m wide,100 times the size of the original painting.It captures the daily life of people and the landscape of the capital,Bianjing,today’s Kaifeng,from the Song period.The theme celebrates the festive spirit and worldly commotion at the Qingming Festival,rather than the holiday’s ceremonial aspects,such as tomb sweeping and prayers.
