On money What’s you attitude money? If you were a millionaire, how would you spend it? Money is not everything(钱不是万能的) My View on Money Directions: You are allowed 30 minutes to write a composition on the topic My View on Money. You should write at least 120 words and you must base your composition on the following instruction. 1.人们对钱的普遍看法。 2.指出钱的一些普遍用途及钱所不能做到的一些事情。 3.你的观点。 My View on Money Money is regarded by some people as the most importent thing in life. It is even regarded as the symbol of wealth and social position. For example, with plenty of money a man can do whatever he wants to. He can afford expensive cars and luxurious houses, and he can travel around the world and visit as many interesting places as he wants to. In their eyes, money is everything in life. In my opinion, money can both benefit people and do harm to them. On the one hand, we can't deny that money is useful. We need money to buy food, buy a house or pay our education cost. Money can make us live more comfortably. For example, with more money, we can help others and take part in more social activities and receive a good education, thus increasing our knowledge and developing our skills. On the other hand, some people try to get money by dishonest means, for example, they often cheat and gemble, even rob and kill people. Sooner or later, they will be punished by the law. Money can bring them nothing but misery. In addition, money can not buy everything, For instance, no matter how much money one hast he can not buy good health, happiness or friendship, Although money is useful in many ways, there are still a lot of things that money can't buy in the world. In addition, money can also do harm to us. If a person really thinks of money as everything and pays his attention only to money, he will lose his friends, or even the care and warmth from his family. Thus, it brings him only loneliness. 1 On music What’kind of music to you like or dislike? why? And talk about it. Music dialogue Jane met Linda on the bus. Jane is listening to her I-pod. Ads 广告的利与弊(Advantages and Disadvantages of advertising) Nowadays, no matter where you get around in a city or even in the countryside, it is pretty easy for you to find one or two signs introducing a product. This has been increasingly becoming popular in our daily lives. Whether the influence of advertising is good or bad could be examined as follows. We will start by talking about the merits of advertising. Firstly, advertising is informative, which provides the customers with a quick access to the product needed. Take me as an example. I am a new resident of Guangzhou, a metropolitan city located in the south of China. At the very beginning when moving to this city, I did not have a clue about where to purchase all of the necessities for my newly-bought flat. Thanks to the ads on TV and in newspapers, amazingly almost all of the items ranging from furniture to household appliances were settled within a week. Secondly, consumers can expect to have a best price by comparing and contrasting the prices and specifications of the commodity advertised by different suppliers. However, advertising involves some defects and I would like to list two of them herein. Initially, the popularity of advertisements has been growing along with the increased layout of design as well as showing up in the marketplace more frequently. The cost will definitely be passed on to the customers. Furthermore, the generation Y would probably lose their individuality because many of them buy the same goods advertised constantly in media during a certain period of time, which makes them appear alike. After the above analysis of the pros and cons, I tend to be in favor of the positive effects. Undoubtedly, nothing is more important than living in a society where ordinary people can enjoy the conveniences and competitive prices brought by commercials. I believe that the negative effects can be minimized through sustainable economic growth and education. I believe that the negative effects can be minimized through sustainable economic growth and education. Pets I often see a lot of people walking with dogs. It is still true that a dog is the most useful and faithful(忠诚的)animal in the world, but people have changed (改变) the reasons(原因)why they keep a dog. Of course ,they keep dogs in order to (为了)keep safe. But the most important reason is that they can have friends, because the city can be a lonely place. For a child, a dog is his best friend when he has no friends to play with. For young couples, a dog is their child when they have no children. For old couples, a dog is also their child when their real children have grown up(已经长大). One reason for keeping pets is their utility. When our dog barks, it warns us of thieves. A cat keeps down the mice and rats in homes. When men depended on hunting for food they found hunting-dogs extremely useful. They also used a type of bird to aid them in their search for food. Companionship is a non-utilitarian reason for keeping pets. If people are living by themselves they feel lonely, and having a pet relieves this loneliness to some extent. We like to have some companion with us even if this companion is not human. We feel the need to have another living being to share our daily lives. Having a companion, even if it is only an animal, gives us a feeling of warmth and an interest in something else beyond ourselves. Some people even prefer pets to other people. Pets are not as demanding as people sometimes are. In particular, pets do not demand of us that we should talk when we wish to remain silent. Some people do talk to pets as if they were human beings, but they have the satisfaction of knowing that the pets cannot answer back and engage them in argument. Pets seem content with so very little Movic or tv A: Betty, would you like to see a movie tonight? B : That would be nice! A : What would you like to see? B : Anything but a thriller. A : How about Star Wars Episode I1? B : That's OK, but I'd prefer seeing a comedy. A: Then let's go to see Spider Man. B : That sounds good. A : OK, Let's go! B : Wait a minute, Adam. Let me get a coat. Dialogue 2 A: What are we going to do tonight, Barbara? B" What about seeing a film at that new cinema in the mall? A: I don't feel like going to the cinema. I prefer watching TV. B: There is really nothing to watch. A: We can watch videos we've bought but never seen. B: Then, I think it's better to borrow some from my brother. A" What's the difference? B: There are a lot more choices in his videotape case. A ~ But we can pick up the most interesting one we have. Then, we don't have to make a trip to your brother's. B: Come on, Arthur. I know you are just too lazy to get up from the couch. Dialogue 3 A: What kind of movie do you like best, Carol? B : Comedy is my favorite. But I like drama and romance too. A : Don't you like suspense and horror? B : Suspense is OK with me, but certainly not horror. A : I don't fancy horror either. But suspense stories are exciting. B : Yeah, they are really good, especially the ones directed by Hitchcock. A : They are terrific. B : What type of movie do you like best, Alan? A : As a matter of fact, I like action and adventure best. B : I like them as well. A : Have you seen Mission Impossible, starring Tom Cruise? B : No. He's certainly popular. A: Shall we go and see it? B : Why not? Fashion A: do you think I still fashionable in this dress? B: I think so. Blue is still fashionable at the moment. a: this style came out last year, though. I like the dress, but I’m not sure whether last year’s fashions will be same this year. b: I think th is kind of dress will stay in fashion for a few more years. People don’t change fashions every year. It would be too expensive. a: yes. Only the top designer try to tell people to change fashion every year, but only rich people can do it. b: there are some real fashion victims who just have to keep totally up-to-date with expensive clothes. a: I wish I could be one of those people, but my budget simply doesn’t stretch that far. I have to limit the amount of money I spend on clothes otherwise I would go on a shopping frenzy. B: I know what you mean. The situation will be worse if we marry our boyfriends and have children. The we’ll have even less money to spend on fashionable clothes! Intemp3ediate A: look at these clothes designed by top fashion designer like Versacci, Calvin Klein, and Vivienne Westwood. What do you think of them? B: well, they look lovely, but they’re not very practical. I mean, would you wear that dress to the office or walking down the street? A: I know what you mean. People would stare at you in amazement if you wore something like that in an everyday situation. I suppose only extravagant rich people wear then at cocktail parties. B: maybe. I’m not sure why they have fashion shows like this. Hardly anyone will buy those clothes. The clothes you see are nothing like the ones that ordinary people wear. It seems like a waste of money. A: I think that the designers hold these fashion shows for a few reasons. First, it’s just like a big party. They can meet each other and network. The other thing is that it is great advertising. All the journalists and photographers are there. Thirdly, it give them a chance to show what they would like to see people wearing. B: you meant it’s an expression of their fantasies? A: yes. I think the designers are saying that these clothes are what they would like to see people wear if those people weren’t concerned with what other people might think. In a way, the designers are saying‘don’t worry about what others think. Wear what you like!’. B: very philosophical. I think they design these clothes more for publicity. They try to see who can be the most extreme and outrageous, but still stylish. A: come on. All this fashion has reminded me that I want to buy some clothes
