Lecturer: Hong Mingyu Time: April 1, 2009 Class: Class 5, Grade 2 Contents: Book 2 Unit 5 Section A 1a-2c (Period 1) Teaching aims and demands: 1. Knowledge objects: Words: have a great time, organize, let sb. in Key structures: The adverbial clauses with “if”. 2. Ability objects: Enable the students to use “if” to talk about consequences, enhance their communicative ability of using English. 3. Moral objects: Teach students to use “if” to give correct advice, cultivate students’ cooperative sense, arouse students’ interest of learning English. Teaching important points: I think I am going to/will… The adverbial clauses with “if”. Teaching difficult points: Use the right tenses in “if” clauses. Use “ if” clauses to solve problems in communication. Teaching methods: Listening and speaking methods, task-based language teaching. Teaching aids: A tape recorder and a projector. Type of lesson: Comprehensive lesson Step 1 Greetings 1) Greet with the students. 2) Ask two students to make a duty report. Step 2 Revision Revise the adverbial clauses with “when” to prepare for teaching the adverbial clauses with “if”. She is going to be a reporter when she grows up. (In “when” clauses we can use the Simple Present Tense, and we can use the Simple Future Tense in main clauses.) Step3 Presentation Learn the adverbial clauses with “if”. Show the students some pictures and use “What will you do if…?” to ask the students some questions. Question 1: What will you do if you have a party? eg. If I have a party, I will invite many friends. Question 2: What will you do if you meet Yao Ming? Question 3: What will you do if you have much money? Then ask more students to give their answers to the above three questions. Step 4 Practice Students’ Book page 34 activity 1a. Let the students talk about the pictures first and then match the statements with the responses. Step 5 Listening Students’ Book page 34 activity 1b. Play the tape for the students to listen and check the answers in activity 1a. Then see if the students can understand the following language points: 1) have a great time 2) let sb. in eg. If he doesn’t have an ID card, we won’t let him in. 3) If you do, the teachers won’t let you in. ( Here “do” means “wear jeans to the party”) Step 6 Pairwork Let the students work in pairs. Look at the pictures on page 34 and make conversations like activity 1c. A: I think I’m going to stay at home. do, you’ll be sorry.B: If you Then ask some pairs to present their conversations to the class. Step 7 Listening 1) Call students’ attentions to the picture in activity 2a first. Teach the new word “organize”. Then play the tape and let students listen and number the phrases. 2) Listen again and let students write down the answers to the questions in activity 2b. Step 8 Pairwork Ask students to look at the box in activity 2b and make conversations as the example in pairs. Then ask some students to present their conversations. eg. A: OK, when is a good time to have the party? B: Let’s have it today. A: If we have it today, half the class won’t come. Step 9 Practice Show the students some pictures and let them make conversations according to the pictures. Answers: 1.If she studies hard, she will go to Peking University. 2. If he buys a car, he will travel with his family. 3. If he exercises every day, he will be thinner. Step 10 Summary Ask a student to tell what they have learned in this period. Then I will help them to summarize if necessary. 1) if 引导的条件状语从句,常译为 “如果”。 如果主句是一般将来时,从句则用一般现在时. 注意:从句可以放在主句之前,也可放在主句之后.如果放在主句之前,从句要用逗号与主句隔开。 eg. If you study hard, you will get good grades. =You will get good grades if you study hard. 2) if 引导的宾语从句, 常译为“是否”,应注意时态变化。 I don’t know if he will come tomorrow. Can you tell me if he passed the exam?
