Teaching material analysis:
This passage is an abstract of the novel MY HOUSE ON MANGO STREET. The language is beautiful and the meaning is profound. It talks about a story of a girl with lots of hopes and dreams,
who was brought up by a poor family. One dream she had was to leave her childhood memories behind one day and live in a rich family with a nice husband and family.
Teaching object:
The students are music major.
Teaching objectives:
1. To practise intensive reading and understanding the inferences in a text.
2(To get familiar with the vocabulary of houses and rooms.
3(To appreciate the beauty of novel language.
4(To plan and talk about a design for a study or bedroom.
Teaching design:
1. The general design:
In this lesson, I have designed some multiple choice questions, open questions, and blank
filling questions for the class, besides; learning by drawing is a suitable access for the special
class.
Teaching procedure:
Lead in; (Before the class, show the students the title and the objectives with some
background music.)
Step1:
Q1: “Which kind of house do you want to live in?”(pictures of different houses.)
Q2: “In my opinion, I like a cozy home without too many decorations. Do you
want to come to my house for a visit?”(pictures of my house)
【This process is a lead-in and a vocabulary building as well.】
Step2: The brief introduction of the author and her works. (pictures)

2. Each group finishes a picture of one house.

2. Try your best to draw them out.
3. It is a team work.
4. Your picture will help you to memorize the passage.
