Why people work Sunli(孙莉) Some people think they work because they have to make a living,they take it as a burden and become accustomed to serve the needs of modern life by hard work. They dream about a life of all play and no work,a life of endless vacations and holidays, even most look forward eagerly to their retirement, when they can enjoy relaxing life without any toiling or sweating , for them , the whole life is changed into a mission. But is it true money is the only or the main motivating power that drives us to work? Actually,work has more vital meanings. Firstly,thinking about why you work? What do you get from work? And what your life would become like without work? Alfred Marshall Theory of Demand points out that it satisfies another human need, different yet no less basic. it is the Physiological need、the need for security、social need、the need to be respected and the need to achieve self-worth. Obviously, work is merely a means to earn a living and work results determine your salary and your future. Well, salary is a compensation for work, but the work itself bring us more reward. Difficult task would temper our willpower; new duties could develop your personal talents. W hat’s more, a range of positions would create different social network. You live in a circle of friends for the work’s sake, they fight hardships shoulder to shoulder with you, offer their hands when you get into trouble and accompany you to relax, all above enrich your life and make us bathed in glimmer of hope. The last but not the least, work provide us with maximum self-realization of the value of space. Mark Twain, a famous American writer ever said: “Don't part with your illusions. When they are gone you may still exist, but you have ceased to live.”Leo Tolstoy, a Russian writer who has worldwide fame also said: “Ideal is the beacon. Without ideal, there is no secure direction; without direction, there is no life.” we work to create the wealth of society, in the meantime, to achieve self-value of life. Work is not a simple job to earn money but your career、the ideal and ambitions which give you the chance to challenge the limits and exceed oneself! If one takes a look at the great people of our time, one may have second thoughts. The richest man in the world—— Bill Gates、American director Steven Spielberg、The chairman and chief executive of Viacom——Sumner M.Redstone, they are all well-paid extremely but still choose to work, and why? In the final analysis, they take work as a creative activity and enjoy the satisfaction of accomplishment. How could anyone say it is not the true meaning of life when you bring your wits to full play though work? Anyway, a growing body of evidence shows that meaningful workers are happy workers, more committed workers, and in some tantalizing ways, better workers. A report from the Work Foundation published last week argues that looking for meaning at work would have seemed outlandish even a generation ago. But now, as a joint result of affluence and our general leaning towards introspection, it has become the norm. We all insist that our jobs should mean something. Don’t you want to seek a fitter stage for yourself where you can practise your talent maximizely, not only for the sake of this nation, collectivity but also for yourself? such is life! At last, as the old saying goes, be lord of money not slave. In the same way, to be the master of life not slave. Finding your dream, enjoy the work and achieve your life purpose! 继续阅读
