Hasselblad Announces Winner of Second Round of Anniversary Quiz
The second round of the Hasselblad Anniversary Quiz has been won by Peter Hurley,
a New York based photographer specializing in portraiture, fashion, beauty,
advertising and commercial work. The online quiz (www.hasselblad.com/anniversary),
which is now in its fourth and final round, involves providing photographic guidance to
„young, talented photographer, Peter?, and has been open to photographers worldwide
thas part of the 100 anniversary celebrations to mark the birth of the company?s
founder, Victor Hasselblad. Greg Hollmann, Regional Manager of Hasselblad USA Inc,
presented Peter with his prize, a Hasselblad H3D-22 DSLR camera with the world?s
first HCD 28 mm lens for medium format cameras, worth over $30,000.
Peter, a world-class sailor and former member of the U.S. Sailing Team, began his
career as a professional photographer in 2000. After completing a campaign for the
Sydney Olympic Games, Peter initially returned to his modeling career but quickly
moved to the other side of the camera and was lucky enough to be mentored by
Bruce Weber, with whom he had worked in the past. Peter?s photographic career
quickly took off and he now counts Levi?s, Reebok, DKNY and Johnnie Walker among
his clients.
Already a Hasselblad owner, Peter has been using a Hasselblad H1 with an Imacon
132C digital back, which he „absolutely loves?, for the last three years. “I bought the
H1 in the first place,” he says, “to have the best product on the market and build my business. My clients love the quality and I feel like I am giving them the best image
available. I know my business wouldn't be where it is today without Hasselblad and
that camera is the most important part of what I am doing.”
Peter was considering upgrading his camera and, having seen the new Hasselblad
H3D at PhotoPlus Expo in New York, thought he?d enter the Hasselblad Anniversary
Quiz to try his luck, but had no expectation of winning. When Peter heard that he?d won the second round of the quiz, he was stunned: “When I entered the quiz, I really
didn't think I?d ever win and am amazed that I did! When Hasselblad called me, I
didn't consider it was about the quiz at all. When I heard that I had won the second
round and was going to get the H3D with the new 28mm lens, I went into shock for a
moment, but then, realizing what I?d been told and how much it was worth, I
completely flipped out! It's something that I needed and it's how I make my living on
a daily basis. I?ve just had my best year ever and to top it off like this is just too
much!”
Looking forward to trying out his prize, Peter comments: “I'm off on holiday soon and
am going to enjoy photographing my kids with the new camera and getting ready for
a busy year in 2007. I shoot five days a week and when I'm not shooting advertising,
I'm shooting actors and models. I generally shoot two to three clients a day and take
about 250 to 300 images of each person, so probably take more captures than most
with the H system. Believe me, my new camera is going to get a ton of use!”
Peter is also excited about Hasselblad?s new 28mm lens that offers amazing 48mm
full-frame composition and unmatched wide angle image quality. “I can't wait to see
what the 28mm is like,” he says. “With the correction in Flexcolor, I think it's going
to be amazing for me. I already have 50mm, 80mm and 150mm lenses, so the
28mm lens is perfect to add to the mix. I really believe that the H3D will open up my
shooting and make me feel way more comfortable out of the studio.”
Jack Showalter, President of Hasselblad USA Inc comments: “I?m delighted that we?ve
been able to present Peter with his state-of-the-art, Hasselblad digital SLR camera.
The H3D camera is the result of Hasselblad?s strategy of taking photographic flexibility
and image quality to new levels, as yet unseen in any competing high-end 35mm
digital cameras, and I?m confident that the combination of H3D and the new 28mm
wide angle lens will deliver a significant improvement in the image quality of Peter?s
digital photographs.”
The Hasselblad H3D-22 camera is the 22 megapixel version of Hasselblad?s new H3D, the world?s first 48mm full-frame DSLR camera system. Built around a brand new digital camera engine, the H3D takes photographic flexibility and image quality to new
levels, as yet unseen in any combination of medium format camera and digital backs
or in 35mm DSLRs. The second round prize also includes Hasselblad?s new 28mm
lens, the world?s first 28mm wide angle lens for 48mm DSLR cameras, which has
been designed especially for the H3D. To achieve the necessary optical performance,
the Hasselblad lens designers have taken full advantage of the Ultra-Focus and Digital
APO Correction functionality to ensure that outstanding images are produced by this
extraordinary lens.
Photographers who have taken part in all of the first three rounds still have the
opportunity to participate in the fourth round of Hasselblad Anniversary Quiz, which
thends on 11 December, and be eligible to win the special grand prize – an H3D-39
camera, which offers an unsurpassed 39 megapixels on the largest image sensor
currently available in digital photography.
