This lesson we will continue to learn the grammar point the simple past tense. Ⅱ Teaching aims 1. Language knowledge Comprehend the simple past form of some verbs appeared usually. 2. Language skills Recognize the structure of the simple past tense. 3. Learning strategies Understand when to use the simple past tense. 4. Affective goal Develop their team spirit through the group work and help them to be more independent. 5. Culture awareness Be aware of the communication with simple past tense. Ⅲ Key teaching points / difficult points 1. The structure and functions of the simple past tense 2. How to interchange different kinds of past form of verbs Ⅳ Teaching Procedures Step 1:Greeting and Warming-up (5 minutes) There is a free talk between students and teacher after greeting. Teacher asks some questions to interact with students. Q1: What’s the weather like today?  Q2: What was the weather like yesterday?  Q3: What did you do yesterday? Step 2: Review the past tense of some verbs ( 5 minutes) 1. look, start, play, want… +ed 2. use, like, live, hope…+d 3. study, cry, try, fly…change “y” into “i” +ed 4. stop, shop, plan        stopped, shopped, planned Step3: introduce the simple past tense ( 5 minutes) 1. Introduce the concept and the usage of the simple past tense. (1) An act or state that happened in the past time. (2) An act that used to happen frequently. Usually connected to the frequency adverbs such as always, often, usually and so on. 2. Give some examples. I played basketball last week. He was late for school yesterday. She always got up early when he was young. Step4: Pair work (5 minutes) Working in pairs and then according to the following examples to find and learn the structure of the past tense. She was a student two years ago.      She was not a student two year ago. They were students last year.          They were not students last year. I did my homework yesterday.      I did not do my homework yesterday. She ate three apples yesterday.        She did not eat three apples yesterday. Affirmative sentence:                    Definitely sentence: S+be (was, were) +other                  S +be (was, were) +not+ other S +V-ed +other                        S+did+V原+ other Step 5: Practice ( 5 minutes) I    (tell) the news yesterday. I              told them the news yesterday.(否) He            (be) late for school yesterday. He              (be) late for school yesterday. ( 否) Step 6: Activities (5 minutes) Working in group of four and discussing the following questions. 1. How was your May Day? 2. What did you do during the May Day Ⅴ  Optional activities( group work) Teacher gives students some key words (last week, yesterday, go shopping, play basketball, watch TV…) .students can use these or think others then make a conversation. They should use the simple past sense. Ⅵ Assignment 1. Remember the dictation from the word “thank” to “teacher”. 2. Preview unit 7. Ⅶ After-lesson reflection Teacher should give more chance to let students have a practice and then they can be more familiar with the grammar.
