In space, they get to do some pretty amazing things, like floating in zero gravity(重力). However, there are also plenty of things that astronauts can't do because of their weightless environment, and that's very sad. What's worse, they can't even let their sadness show – because it's impossible to cry in zero gravity. Of course, astronauts can still produce tears. But crying is much more difficult in space, reported The Atlantic in January. Without gravity, tears don't flow downward out of the eyes like they do here on Earth. This means that when you cry in space, your tears have nowhere to go—they just stick to your eyes. In May 2011, astronaut Andrew Feustel experienced this during one of his spacewalks. "Tears," he said, "don't fall off of your eye... They just kind of stay there." Besides making your vision unclear, this can also cause physical pain. Back on Earth, tears are supposed to bring comfort to the eyes. But that's not the case in space. The space environment dries out astronauts' eyes, and when tears suddenly wet the eyes, it can cause pain rather than comfort. "My right eye is painful like crazy." Feustel told his teammate during the walk. Since gravity doesn't work in space, astronauts need some extra help to get rid of the tears. Feustel chose to rub his eyes against his helmet to wipe the tears away. Another choice is to just wait—"When the tears get big enough they simply break free of the eye and float around," astronaut Ron Parise told The Atlantic. There are lots of small things—things like crying – that we are so used to on Earth. We usually take them for granted, until they become a problem in a totally different environment, like space. There, astronauts can't talk to each other directly. They also can't eat or drink in normal ways. They can't even burp (打嗝), because there is no gravity to hold the food down in their stomach. If they do burp, they just end up throwing up (呕吐) everything in their stomach, according to the UK National Space Center. Thus, perhaps it's only space explorers who can honestly say: "Gravity, you're the best." 41. What can we conclude from paragraphs 2 and 3? A. Astronauts are unable to feel sad in space. B. Astronauts produce fewer tears in space. C. Tears produced in space flow down more slowly. D. Tears produced in space don't flow downward. 42. What effect do tears have on astronauts? A. They cause physical pain. B. They bring comfort to them. C. They make their vision clearer. D. They float around and cause trouble. 43. What can the astronaut do to get rid of the tears? A. Rub his eyes against his helmet to let the tears float forward. B. Rub his eyes by hand to let the tears float around. C. Get the tears big enough to fall off of his eyes. D. Get the tears big enough to break away from his eyes. 44. What's the second-to-last paragraph mainly about? A. Suggestions on how astronauts can stay comfortable in space. B. Other basic things that are difficult to do in space. C. Why burping is impossible in space. D. Things that humans can't do without gravity. 45. When of the following can be the best title for the text? A. In the sky, you can't burp B. Better life with gravity C. In the sky, you can't cry D. No Gravity, no tears (B) Do you know that people without friends are more likely to die an early death? Once I took a trip to the glacier. Along the way there stood signposts marking the snow lines of different years. They started from the foot of the mountain, but it was at the top when I finally saw melting glaciers(融化的冰川). My heart ached seeing the beautiful blue ice melting at every second( Sad but true, they are the effects of global warming and the result of our human impact. According to studies, if the temperature keeps on rising like this, by the year 2050, some islands and coastal cities including New York, Shanghai, Tokyo and Sydney will be drowned in water( Our fortune is in our own hands. It depends on us to shape our future, to reduce future human impact and find ways to form a peaceful relationship with our environment. Therefore, it's time for actions to be taken right now. Contribute a little to energy saving by using more efficient light bulbs and less hot water. Let recycle become our habit by thinking twice before throwing something away. Let us take public transportation as our first choice when going to a certain place. It might cost more time for now, but it' s to the benefit of a permanent future. Take care of every tree and grass around us by watering them or simply just avoid destroying them( In a word, small drops of water make a big ocean. The earth does not belong to us. There was no identification inside. Just three dollars and a letter. The only thing clear on the torn envelope was the return address. I opened the letter and saw that it had been written in 1024. I read it carefully, hoping to find some clue to the identity of the wallet’s owner. It was a ―Dear John‖ letter. The writer told the receiver, Michael, that her mother forbad her see him again. Nevertheless, she would always love him. It was signed, Hannah. There was no way, beyond the name Michael, to identify the owner. So I called information to see if the operator could help. The woman who answered explained that Hannah was living in a nursing home. I asked if I could stop by to see her. The director said that Hannah might be asleep. ―But if you want to take a chance, maybe she’s in the dayroom watching television.‖ The director and a guard greeted me and we went up to the third floor and saw Hannah indeed watching TV. Hannah was a sweet, silver-haired old lady with a warm smile and friendly eyes. I told her about the wallet and showed her the letter. The second she saw it, she took a deep breath. ―Young man,‖ she said, ―this letter was the last contact I had with Michael. I loved him very much. He was so handsome.‖ We both laughed. ―yes, Michael Goldstein was his name. if you find him, tell him I still think of him often. I never did marry,‖ she said, smiling with tears in her eyes. ― I guess no one ever matched up to Michael.‖ I thanked Hannah, said goodbye, and took the elevator to the first floor. The guard asked , ‖Was she able to help you?‖ I told him she had given me a lead. I pulled out the brown leather case and showed it to the guard. He looked at it and said, ―Hey, that’s Mr Goldstein’s. He’s always losing it. That’s Mike Goldstein’s wallet, for sure. He goes out for a walk quite often.‖ I thanked the guard and ran back to the director’s office to tell him what the guard had said. He accompanied me to the eighth floor. ―I think he’s still in the dayroom.‖ The nurse said, ―He likes to read at night.‖ We went to the only room that had lights on, and there was a man reading a book. The director asked him if he had lost his wallet. Michael Goldstein looked up, felt his back pocket, and then said, ― Goodness, it is missing.‖ The second he saw it, he smiled with relief. ― Yes,‖ he said, ―that’s it. Must have dropped it this afternoon. I want to give you a reward.‖\ ―Oh, no, thank you.‖ I said, ― But I read the letter in the hope of finding out who owned the wallet.‖ The smile on his face disappeared. ―You read the letter?‖ ―Not only did I read it, I think I know where Hannah is.‖ He grew pale. ―Hannah? You know where she is? How is she? Is she still as pretty as she was?‖: ―She is fine, and just as pretty as when you knew her.‖ ―Could you tell me where she is? I want to call her tomorrow.‖ He grabbed my hand and said, ―You know something? When that letter came, my life ended. I never married; I guess I’ve always loved her.‖ ―Michael,‖ I said, ―Come with me.‖ The three of us took the lift to the third floor. We talked toward the dayroom where Hannah was sitting, still watching TV. The director went over to her. ―Hannah,‖ he said softly. ―Do you know this man?‖ Michael and I stood waiting in the doorway. She adjusted her glasses , looked for a moment, but didn’t say a word. ―Hannah, it’s Michael. Michael Goldstein. Do you remember?‖ ―Michael? Michael? It’s you!‖ He walked slowly to her side. She stood, and they embraced. A perfect ending for a love affair that had lasted nearly 60 years. 55.It can be inferred from the passage that a ―Dear John‖ letter is a letter . A. mailed to John. Escape Now and Then C. Separate Your Actions D. Allow Yourself to Be Weak E. Relieve Pressure by Firmly Saying "No" F. Stop Expecting Everything to Be Perfect How to Simplify Your Life Less is more. This is why we say: reduce things by half instead of doubling them, get rid of junk instead of piling it up, relax instead of stressing, slow down instead of speeding up. Apply these principles in your everyday life in a conscious way. You will then find yourself well along on your journey to simplification. 61.__________ When you concentrate on one task, you find you have energy that you didn't even know you had. Just imagine: you are at a fair and you have to carry two heavy pigs over 100 yards. If you keep grabbing one and then the other, it will take forever, because one of them will keep slipping out from under your arm and running off. But if you tie one pig in a place, pick up the other, gather all your strength and make a dash for the finish line, pause for a moment, run back and get the other one, and with great determination, carry the second pig to the finish line, then you can be sure of success. 62._________ The pressure at work is on the increase in all occupations. In the modern nuclear family, the expectations that formerly would have been shared among all the relatives are now concentrated on the individual partner. If you have the feeling that 24 hours per day are not enough for all the things you need to do, then it's not because the day has too few hours, but because you have too many activities. A simple fact that overloaded people often tend to forget. The solution is equally simple: refuse to accept so many work assignments in your private life or your working life. 63.____________ "I can handle stress" is regarded as a positive statement in the world of work. People who can handle stress are given more and more to cope with -- until one day they break. Pay careful attention to the signs that tell you that you are under more stress than you can cope with. These signals can come from various areas of life. You become ill, or your work efficiency decreases. If you have any of these symptoms, change your life goals and decrease your tolerance of stress. Say quite openly, "I can't manage that. " 64.__________ " If only I were slimmer, more beautiful, richer, more clever, then I would be happier. " This is a dream that makes a lot of people ill, depressed, and unhappy. Life has its flaws, defects, corners, and edges. Only those who accept this reality can lead a really fu]] life. Of course there are activities in which errors are dangerous: driving a car; crossing the road. But life doesn't consist entirely of these things. In among them there is a lot of room for small and large mistakes. 65._________ Successful people all have their own places where they can withdraw in order to work. Find out which places improve your creativity. For me it's the train. When I know that I'm going to be traveling for four hours without phone calls and people knocking on my door, I find my mind is free and I can read or write complex articles. There can be problems working on the train, of course : if the person sitting opposite you keeps talking away, or if train traps make you tired ( some people fall asleep after a few miles). 2016届高三第一次月考英语 答题卷 61. 62. 63. 64. 65. 四(短文改错:10分 Last Saturday, I went to visit the museum with my classmates. Personally, that is what I agree with. Because success never comes easily and the stricter a teacher is, the more likely a student will be to make progress. I still remember the time when I couldn’t swim like other boys. What’s worse, I even dared not jump into the water. It was my swimming teacher, Mr. Liu, who insisted on training me every day regardless of my tears and crying. Gradually, my fear of water was gone and my confidence arose. But for him, I would never enjoy the fun that swimming brings to me. Therefore, I am convinced that a teacher’s strictness best helps his students to achieve success. (110 words)
