Iambic meter is the most common English meter, in which each foot contains an unaccented syllable and an accented followed by a stressed one.
Heroic couplet was introduced from France the rhymed stanza of various types by Chaucer, who is the founder of English poetry.
English couplet was used by a lot of poets in their poems. For example, Pope, the most important English poet in the first half of the th18 century. His didactic poem Essay on Criticism and his philosophical poem Essay on Man are both written in heroic couplet.
