Companies pull tainted medicines
Recently, there are three pharmaceutical companies that have recalled their chromium-contaminated drug capsules. China's drug regulator also stop the sale of 13 drugs capsules (including 11 Chinese traditional herbal medicines and 2 antibiotics), because it made with overmuch chromium levels. It was show the battle with food and drug safety in China.
The State Food and Drug Administration said it asked local authorities in China to check drug-capsule manufacturers in their provinces. Well, all were bought the capsules from small companies in Zhejiang province.
The leader of a company in Northeast China's Jilin province said "Pharmaceutical producers do not have the ability to check the capsules, so we just simply checked the quality report provided by capsules suppliers and then let them go."
At the same time, CCTV revealed in a survey program at last week that 9 pharmaceutical companies’ capsules contains a much higher degree of
chromium than edible gelatin.
Normally, capsules are made with material from animal bones. Well, if a person intake more chromium, it can result in chronic diseases.
And, the Chinese Pharmacopoeia, revised in 2010, permits no more than 2 mg of chromium per 1 kg of medicine. Before that, the cap was 5 mg per 1 kg for heavy metal, but it had no specific rules about chromium.
However, these company's products were found with 3.54 mg of chromium per 1 kg of medicine. It hits the development of Chinese medicine business. So they should draw a lesson from this scandal.
As everyone’s’ know, China is a major maker and exporter of medicines, but some analysts say it is unlikely the capsules have gone beyond China. Therefore, capsules are used more often in China, while U.S. customers often use tablets.
Well, this thing shows that China's drug manufacturers are facing increasing price pressures. The central government had encouraged provincial governments to cut prices of Chinese traditional medicines and
antibiotics. Since then, the other provinces have created similar bidding systems. The lowest-price-wins model has set up a system in which manufacturers cannot gain. And many companies feel as though they have to cut corners on quality.
So, several websites of the drug companies that face suspensions were obviously attack by hackers, who posted phrases such as, 'Chinese people are cheating themselves.'
