General Description
PAM2830 is a three-channel constant current
driver specially for RGB LED display applications.
Each channel’s normal operating current is
independently set by a corresponding external
resistor that provides greater flexibility to users
for adjust ing di fferent LEDs with di fferent
characteristics such as brightness and color
gamut.
PAM2830 uses a simple two-wire interface, one
wire for clock and one wire for data, for controlling
output patterns. The interface is compatible with
most protocols such as SM bus and GPIO used by
many controllers. The chip also outputs both clock
and data allowing cascading configuration and
simple system design. Both clock and data
outputs are shaped so that data integrity is
guaranteed for large number of cascading chips.
For high reliability, PAM2830 LED output pins can
sustain voltage up to 20V. Operating junction
temperature is allowed up to 150°C. Over-
temperature protection will shut down the IC when
it reaches an internal junction temperature of
about 170°C.
The PAM2830 is available in SSOP-20 package.

Setting Output Current Cascading Application Circuit
Output current of each channel is set by an
external resistor R . The current is calculated as:
V =1.24V, R is the external resistor connected to
RT pin.
For example,
when I =20mA, R =7.44k
when I =60mA, R =2.48k
The PAM2830 could be used in cascaded way as
shown in Typical Application Circuit. In this
application, when R =7.44k the I =20mA. The
values of C1 - C6 are for reference only. For C1
and C4, tantalum capacitors with small ESR are
recommended.
