Joomla articles can
be uncategorised.
Or Joomla articles
can be placed in a 2-
level Section and
Category heirarchy.
You can have an
unlimited number of
sections, and an
unlimited number of
categories in each
section.
Any number of articles can be left
uncategorised. Typically these
might include static pages like the
site disclaimer or privacy policy.
Any number of articles be placed
in a category, but an article can
only be placed in one category.
Each article has a “frontpage”
setting. The “Frontpage” is a
special view in Joomla that can
display these articles regardless of
the section and category they are
in.
Frontpage
Manager
The Frontpage Manager allows
you to put each item in a specific
order. The Frontpage View allows
you to display articles in this order,
or gives you other options such as
by date, etc.

Understanding how Joomla menus work on your web site

Joomla supports more
than one menu.
Extra menus can be
added via the Menus
Manager in the
Joomla Administrator.
The Joomla
template is made up
of positions in which
modules and the
component output
can be displayed.
Each menu is
displayed with its
own module.
Different styles
applied to the
modules in the
template allow each
menu to take on a
different
appearance.
Because modules are
access controlled, you
can set some menus
to display only when
the user is logged in
(like a User Menu with
a link to edit their
profile).

might be linked to the Home

A Menu “Alias” can be
set up so that the News
item jumps to the first
sub-menu item.
Each menu can have an
unlimited depth.
A menu item can point to
a section or a category.
The section could be
displayed as a “blog” of
items, or as a list of its
categories.
A category could be
displayed as a “blog” of
items, or a formal list of
articles in the category.
Article
It is important to note that
sections and categories
“add” to the navigation.
So even though you are
limited to 2-levels of
categorisation, to your
visitor the site can
appear much deeper.
