本课程为英语专业基础课,开课历史长达三十年之久,其间,不断进行教学改革。及时调整课时,更换教材,优化教学方法,尤其自1998-2000年被列为第四批校级重点课程以来,实行了较大的课程及教学改革,授课期限由原来的一、二年级的1-4学期改为二、三学期;教学内容由单一的教授阅读课文扩展至阅读课文、阅读技巧、快速阅读、课外阅读等多项内容;教学目的由只注重学生英语阅读能力到扩大学生英语词汇量,掌握基本阅读技巧,提高速读能力和了解英语国家社会文化背景知识;教案由原来的纸上教案提升为电子教案,并将课堂教学与全国专业英语四级考试相结合。
