The Inspiration from Jane Eyre Class 1 Student No. 20090988 Name XXXX I read Jane Eyre a long time ago, when I was in middle school to be exact. But it was in Chinese. It impresses me so much that I read it again when I was in the university. It was in English, an original one. I could understand more or less, though there were a lot of new words. I should say that this was one of the books that I enjoyed most. The important thing was, it inspired me a lot. First, please allow me to introduce the story. Orphaned at an early age, badly treated by her aunt, suffering at Lowood School, Jane Eyre leads a bleak and lonely life, until she is employed as a governess at Thorn field Hall by the mysterious Mr. Rochester - a man who guards a grim secret. This is a story of passionate love, travail and the triumph of an indomitable spirit. Her integrity and independence are tested to the limit as their love for each other grows, and the secrets of Mr. Rochester's past are revealed when they are getting married in the church. That is, Mr. Rochester has a wife who is mad and afflict him a lot. Jane just can’t stand that, so she leaves Mr. Rochester with pain. With little money and no relatives, she suffers more from hungry and joblessness. She thinks she might die on the road when a kind-hearted man saved her. He is a clergyman called John Rivers. Later Jane finds that he is her cousin. He is a good and sincere man who plans to go abroad as a missionary. He proposes to Jane. Jane is about to agree to marry him when She hears a voice from remote distance. That’s Mr. Rochester! She seems to hear from her heart, which makes her believe that she should go back to find him. She declines John’s offer, and goes to Thorn Field Hall. However, she hears that the Hall has been burnt and it is ruined. It is done by the mad wife of Mr. Rochester, who kills herself. What is worse, she is afraid that Mr. Rochester has died! But luckily, she finds him finally. He is blind now! Nevertheless, they are together again and live happily ever since. At the end of the story, Mr. Rochester can see again! That is great. It was a happy ending after all. What I like most is Jane’s character and the inspiration from what she did. Jane has a firm grasp of her ethics and is strong-minded. She says, "I am no bird; and no net ensnares me; I am a free human being with an independent will, which I now exert to leave you." The courage Jane has to leave Mr. Rochester, the love of her life, and her independence astounded me. Another inspiration came as I read the scene when Jane leaves Thorn Field Hall, her home, love, family and friends. "May you never appeal to heaven in prayers so hopeless and so agonized as in that hour left my lips; for never may you, like me, dread to be the instrument of evil to what you wholly love." She sacrifices all to take the moral high road, yet eventually comes out on top and is happy. Jane possesses will, virtue and purity, and is very admirable. I guess the novel may have affected me a lot. Perhaps I can’t be as brave as Jane, but I believe one day I will be as independent and strong-willed as she is. My Book Report of Pride and Prejudice Class 1 Student No. 20090988 Name XXXX I have read this book before actually. However, as it’s called “my own darling child” by the author Jane Austen, I cannot resist the temptation to read it again. It is a famous and splendid book. I had better not recount the story here, but I’d like to share my opinions about it. One hundred readers have one hundred Hamlets in their hearts. So, it would be safe to say one hundred girls have one hundred princes charming in their dreams. And this Mr. Darcy had gorgeous charm, I think. He had loyalty to friendship, sincere carefulness to his sister, and patience and perseverance to his real love. Really a good man although thought too pride in the first sight. I think a man who is not talkative or good at showing himself at the presence of strangers but really good would be as rare and jewel as panda in real world. Maybe that is why there are so many love tragedies on the earth. I am definitely curious about Elizabeth’s/Lizzy’s family. Lizzy had four sisters. Interestingly, they had utterly different characters. I am just wondering how could such things happen. They had the same father and mother, so they should have similar aptitude and received the same education from their parents. But their intelligence seemed to vary a lot. Perhaps self-teaching is central. And different roles in family work, too. Wow, no wonder there are not many cases that both brothers and sisters reach great achievements. (This may be, in some sense, not a reason that can hold water.) Mr. Wickham was the only one who was a completely bad guy. (By the way, he was really lucky enough to become Lydia’s husband. He contributed to Darcy and Lizzy’s love in some way.) This Wickham succeeded to making a very good first impression to the Bennets. But, when he was revealed by Darcy, his image abruptly turned from a gentleman into a liar. And that reminds me of a film named Mum’s New Boyfriend. This story’s about that a member of CIA disguised himself as a bad guy who wanted to steal some invaluable artwork from the museum together with other two true ones. It is really amazing to find him to be a gentleman when I know his job, because at first he was an utterly disgusting playboy and dirty man in my eyes. All those stories teach me a lesson. We might as well not judge people from their appearance and words. It sometimes would be dangerous to do so. I will keep this in my mind: Don’t listen to their words, fix your attention on their deeds —A. Einstein. Maybe I should make it more formal. After all, this is my two cents of worth.
