Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen. My topic today is: Happiness-- a word that has changed the world. When it comes to happiness, the majority of people feel that the word has been mentioned so many times. So it is， this word that has caused wide public concern. Happiness Index has become the criterion of happy life. But, have you realized that the world has changed so much because of human being’s desire of obtaining happiness? In order to obtain happiness, generations of people have made great efforts. In ancient times, people held that eating well and wearing warm is happy life. As a result, the world appeared architecture and agriculture. In capitalist ['kæpitəlist] time, people hoped there was a way for them to travel more convenient ,therefore, train and car can make that happen. Nowadays, An increasing number of people are joining the " Information Age " via the Internet which makes us more comfortable and effective. This is due to people’s longing for better material conditions and the accomplishment afterwards. All these have show that the pursuit of happiness has a huge influence on the change of the world, However, with further development of the world , people are beginning to realize that happiness has not been accompanied only by the satisfaction of material supplement. That’s why people begin to seek higher level of happiness as referred to spiritual happiness. Spiritual happiness itself is not an end; it is a process. It is based on a continuous process of honest, productive work which you make a real contribution to others and feel you are a useful, worthy person. On the way to get spirit happiness, people work hard and try their best to help others. All these will make the world a better place. Though these people often don’t live in fully decorated houses, haven’t got big sum of savings or even hardly edequate to make a living , they feel happy when sharing love. Because they believe that using their own ability to help others is the most delightful thing in the world , thus changing the world gradually. My friend, please think for a while, if everybody can regard helping others as a kind of happiness, our world will become better to live in. In a word, Happiness has changed the world in the unity ['ju:niti] of the material and spirit way. On the one hand, the pursuit of material happiness has changed people's material world and made great progress for us to live more convenient, more secure [si'kjuə] ,On the other hand, the pursuit of spirit happiness makes our world warmer and more harmonious. [hɑ:'məunjəs] As Dr. Wayne put, “There is no way to happiness. Happiness is the way.” Please do remember, my dear friend, it is happiness that has changed our environment, our thought and our deeds, therefore the world naturally is changed. Be happy, you’ll make the change!
