At the beginning of the text, the author points out that advertisers use a variety of techniques to persuade people. Among these techniques four are particularly mentioned: repetition, vague terms, emotional appeal, and association. Initiative Activities Preview the following questions before reading the text 1. What other functions does advertising perform? 2. Can you name some other techniques advertisers use to persuade people? 3. Do you agree with the author’s opinion about the function of advertising? Advertisers or advertising agents use a variety of techniques in order to better convince us to buy a product, to shape our attitude towards their product, and to make us believe that our value is the name brands that we buy. Meaning: ... advertisers use various methods to persuade us to buy a product, to influence our attitude towards their product, and to make us believe that what we buy is just the value that the well-known product name stands for. 2. To that end, they simply repeat the name of the product or a slogan so we end up remembering it.
