English Teaching Speech Draft Yueyang No.9 Middle School:Zeng Zhengui 1.Contents: Revision of Unit Eight, Junior 8 2.Textbook:Go for it ! 3.Time: 3.pm September 30, 2010 4.Place: Yueyang No.12 Middle School 5:The main text of the draft: Good afternon, ladies and gentlemen! I’m Zeng Zhengui, I’m from No.9 Middle School of Yueyang. I feel it a great honor to speak here. I hope the chance this time will inprove my teaching greatly! Now, would you like to allow me to say something about the teaching for Unit 3, Junior 8? I’d like to talk about my teaching for five parts: Part One: analysis of the teaching material; Part Two: the teaching methods; Part Three:the studying ways and strategies; Part Four: the teaching procedures; Part Five: teaching reflection. Part One:ANALYSIS OF THE TEACHING MATERIAL (一)Status and function 1. The function of the textbook. The textbook“Go for it”is effective and practical, it is has the task-bsaed languge situation, it embodies the spirit that the students are the center and owner of the class It focuses on training the students’ synthetical abilities of using the language. The topics of each unit are related to the daily lives and studying activities of them,which can greatly interert the students and make it easyier for the teachers to organize activitiea in class. The New Junior School English Syllabus Provision requires us teachers to use the Task-based language Teaching, which aims yo make the students experience the studying ways by cooperation. 2. The position of the unit The topic of Unit 3 is“Vacation plans”. It will enable the students to talk about their future vacation plans and arrangements by using the Present Progressive. What’s more, the students should be able to use the special questions which begin with “what,when,where,who,why,how long” question words. The usages of the tenses plays an important parts in the English studying. They help the students to learn better. It help the people to communicate in proper English . And in the Entrance Examination to the Senior High School, there are many problems which are connected with the tense. Therefore, students need lots of practice of listening, speaking,reading and writing. 3. The position and function of the lesson My lessson is the last lesson of the unit. It helps students to go over what they have learnt in the unit and help check how well they have learnt. It aims to enable the students to grasp the contents of the whole unit. It’s helpful to improve the four skills of the students. The focuses are speaking and writing. So this lesson is in the important position of the teaching material. (二)Analysis of the students 1. So far, most of the students have studied English for about five or more years. They can understand some words and some sentences or essays; 2. The students have taken a great interest in English now; 3. Our class are divided into eight studying groups, they have formed good habits of studying in pairs; 4.It’s difficult for them to communicate with others in English, some are not even interested in English and are lack of spirit of communication and coopration. (三)Teaching aims and requirements 1.Knowledge objects The teaching aims’ basis is established according to Junior School English Syllabus Provision (1). To make the students have a total knowledge of the Present Progressive; (2). To learn the new words: Thailand、tourist; (3). To enable the students to grasp some language points and some sentence structures: show, send, plan , ask,finish doing ,go doing ,get back, take walks, something different, and special questions. 2.Ability objects (1). To develop the four skills; (2) To train the abilities of working in pairs; (3). To develop the abilities of communication; (4). To enable the students to express their future plans by using the Present Progress. 3.Moral objects (1). To educate the students to love life; (2). To enable the students to live in a planned way. (四)Teaching key and important points The teaching key and difficult points’basis is established according to the teaching material’s position and function. 1.Key points (1).To help the students to communicate with each other with the target language; (2). To enable the students to study in groups and co-operate skillfully; (3). To help the students to master the main language points; (4). To develop the students’ interest in English. 2. Difficult points (1). How to make dialogues and act them out; (2). How to write articles in English. (五)Teaching aims Multi-media computer, power point and some rewards will be needed in this lesson. Part Two TEACHING METHODS 1. Communicative teaching method; 2. Audio-lingual teaching method; 3. Task- based approach teaching method; 4.Free discussion teaching method. As we all know, the main instructional aims of learning English in the Middle School is to cultivate of the four skills of the students and their good sense of the English language. So, in this lesson I’ll mainly use the four kinds of methods. I’ll give the students some tasks and design five kinds of activities : talking、competition、acting out、asking and answering and written practice. Part Three STUDYING WAYS AND STRATEGIES 1.Teach the students how to be successful language learners; 2.Let the students pass“observation-imitation-practice”to study language; 3.To enable the students to adopt competition methods to develop the students’ keen Interest in English. Part Four TEACHING PROCEDURES I’ll finish this lesson in five steps Step 1 Warm-up I’ll devide the whole class into eight groups, each group is required to say phrases of “go+doing”phrases for vacations as many as possible; After this I’ll let a reporter to tell which group is the winner. The winners will receive some rewards from me . This step can help the students to recall the language they have learnt, and can also warm the students’enthusiasm of studying, what’s more it’ll help make a word-build for the coming conversations and article writing. Step 2 Speaking practice 1.Talk about He Yu’s vacation plan which they have learnt in section A, I’ll guide the students to ask and answer questions about He Yu’s vacations using special questions and Present Progressive. 2. Talk about Lin Hui and Tony’s vacation plans First I’ll guide the students to form conversations about the two students’ vacation plans in pairs ,then I’ll ask some students to act them out. 3.Talk about Ben Lambert’s vacation plans Deal with Ben’s vacation plan, ask and answer questions. But this time I’ll ask some individual students to retell the whole passage. This step is aimed to make the students get a complete understanding and idea of what they have learned. At the same time to let the students have chances of practic their listening and speaking abilities. Step 3 A survey In this step I’ll ask the students to do a survey about the vacation plans of their own. This step is employed to help the students to change the language knowdge into their inner abilities and to train their speaking abilities as well. Step 4 Doing exercises 1. Guide the students to do the exercises in 1 of the self-check, ask them to fill in the blanks with the words given , remind them to change the forms if necessary; Then ask then to make their own sentences. 2. Additional exercise. I’ll offer some exercises to the students ,which are connected with the main and impotant languages of the unit. 3. Check the answers and revise the language points. This step is to help consolidate the knowdge and stenghten the students’ abilities of dealing with problems. Step 5 Writing 1. Ask the students to write an essay about their own vacation. This step is to develop the writing abilities . It can help consolidate the target language in the unit. Part Five Teaching reflection According to the target of the New Course Standard, our our teaching should be based on the language skills、language knowledge、emotion attitude、learning strategies and culture sense. We should do our best to train the students abilities of using the language in communications. The role of the teachers need to be changed, they should try to be the participant、guide and partner of studying. In this lesson, I try to train the four skills in all directions and try to be just a director. 精选题目,仔细钻研教材But there are still a lot of problems to solve. For example : how to form an effective appreciation mechanism, how to balance the four skills in teaching? I’ll try my best to find out answers in my work. That’s all for my speech.
