Find out what you need to know —
and why it’s good news for you!
The GRE® revised General Test — what’s changing
and why it’s good news for you.
A graduate or business degree can give you a big career advantage. An important step toward
achieving your goals is to take the GRE® General Test. It’s the one test that is accepted by thousands
of graduate programs worldwide, including a rapidly growing number of MBA and other business
school programs.
Now we’re making that step even more meaningful for you. Starting August 1, 2011,
the GRE® revised General Test will replace the current GRE General Test, giving you an even
better test experience — and new types of questions that help show your readiness for
graduate-level work.
Here’s what you can expect with the GRE revised General Test:
• More real-life scenarios to reflect the kind of thinking you will do in today’s demanding graduate
and business school programs
• Less reliance on vocabulary out of context, more emphasis on reading — and no antonyms
or analogies
• Many new design features, including the ability to edit or change your answers, skip questions and
more, all within a section, allowing you to use more of your own personal test-taking strategies
• New question types, such as entering a number or providing more than one response when
asked, so you can better demonstrate what you know
• The introduction of an on-screen calculator for the Quantitative Reasoning section*
* For those taking the paper-based GRE revised General Test, calculators will be provided at the test center for use during the test.
You won’t want to miss out on this valuable opportunity to save 50% on the GRE revised General Test when
you take the test between August 1 and September 30, 2011. This exclusive offer is only for test takers who are
among the first to take the GRE revised General Test. You’ll have the same test experience and advantages as
anyone who takes the GRE revised General Test after the special offer period is over — the only difference is
the savings!
To take advantage of this limited-time 50% savings, we recommend that you register as soon as possible once
registration opens on March 15, 2011, since seats will fill up quickly. Please note that when you test during
this special discount period of August 1 – September 30, 2011, your GRE scores will be sent by mid-November
2011. That means if you need your scores before then, don’t wait — make sure you take the current test before
August 1, 2011.
Save 50% when you test in August or September 2011!
50% discount offer applies to the GRE® revised General Test administration fee only for tests taken from August 1, 2011 – September 30, 2011.
Examinees who take the test during this testing period will be sent their scores by mid-November 2011. Fee and discount does not include all
applicable fees, Value Added or similar taxes. Cannot be applied to previous registrations or combined with any other offers. Examinees who
register within the promotional period may reschedule during such promotional period, subject to applicable fees; however, any and all other
cancellations and rescheduled exams are non-refundable. Not valid for cash or cash equivalent. There are no guarantees of seat availability, so
examinees must register to reserve a seat. All other GRE terms and conditions are in effect. ETS may modify or discontinue this offer at any time
without notice.
Take the GRE test at the location of your choice.
There are about 700 test centers in more than 160 countries so you can find a location that is
convenient for you. The computer-based test is available throughout the year in most regions
of the world. And, in areas of the world where computer-based testing is not available, the
GRE revised General Test will be administered in a paper-based format.
Important news for test takers in China (including Hong Kong), Korea and Taiwan
If you’re taking the test in these areas starting in August 2011, with the introduction of the GRE revised
General Test, the split-test administration will be eliminated and will be replaced with more frequent
computer-based testing. There will now be one to two fixed administrations per month, with
the first administration on August 6, 2011. You will be able to take the Verbal Reasoning, Quantitative
Reasoning and Analytical Writing sections on computer all on the same day and in the same sitting.
Another benefit is that computer-based testing will allow faster score reporting for you, once score
reporting returns to the regular 10 – 15 day turnaround schedule in December 2011. For the period
October – November 2011, please check the GRE® website for special score reporting timelines.
Important news about the paper-based GRE revised General Test
For those taking the paper-based GRE revised General Test, the test design and question types will be
modified to be appropriate for a paper-based, linear test. The first paper-based administration of the
GRE revised General Test will be October 22, 2011. Score reports will continue to be reported on the
normal 6-week reporting basis for paper-based tests.
If you need your scores before November 2011, you must take the current
GRE General Test before August 1, 2011.
