CONCIERGE LOUNGE
DESIGN CONCEPT
At InterContinental Hotels & Resorts, we have developed
the concept of the Concierge Lounge to reflect the true
nature of the Concierge’s evolving role. Whereas the
check-in process is a transactional one, guests tend to
have a more consultative relationship with the Concierge.
The traditional reception desk can be a barrier to that
relationship, so we have created Concierge Lounges
– separate zones in our hotels which give our guests
more choice in the way they interact with us. This is an
area where they can go for advice or to do independent
research, surf the internet or read the local newspaper.
This guide outlines the important part that design and
layout will play in making our Concierge Lounges work to
their best effect.
CONCIERGE LOUNGE DESIGN CONCEPT
THE SPACE
The location of the Concierge Lounge will be dictated
largely by the layout of the hotel, but it should be
close to the reception area and easy to identify and
access. The design will be dictated both by the style
of the hotel and the local culture – generally speaking,
the furniture will follow the hotel design most closely
while the soft furnishings will add local detail. We have
also developed separate layouts for urban and resort
hotels. In every case, the Concierge Lounge will have
several distinct zones: a waiting zone, the Concierge
desk and guest seating, a reading/local reference zone
and a search zone featuring interactive screens.
