ntakepercentageMoreover,significantdifferencealsopresentedindryweight,bodymassindex,idealbodyweightpercentage,midarmcircumferenceandmidarmmusclecircumferenceofanthropometricmeasures,andprealbumin,albumin,creatinine,Creactiveprotein,uricacid,glutamicoxaloacetictransaminaseofbiochemicalanalysisOurstudydemonstratedthatSGAshowsasignificantroleonnutritionalassessmentinchronichemodialysispatientsNutritionstatusmeasuredbySGAandvariablenutritionindexescanincreasesensitivityandspecificitytoidentifymalnutritionSo,byprovidingthesedata,clinicaldoctorscandowellandprovideadequatediet,patientscantherebymakebetterhealthPEAssessmentofAntiatherosclerosisBiofunctiononPeptideValTrpTrpTrpFromMackerelHydrolysatesUsingCellCulturedModelJianDerChouZweLingKongWaiJiaLeowChyuanYuanShiauDepartmentofFoodscience,NationalTaiwanOceanUniversity,Keelung,TaiwanEightpeptideswithantioxidantactivityhavebeenisolatedandpurifiedfromenzymatichydrolsatesofmackerelTheiraminoacidsequenceshavealsobeenidentifiedasGlyAsnMetValLeuTyr,HisGlyAlaTryVal,TyrGluAlaPheGlu,ValTrpTrpTrp,AspAlaGlyGlyGlnThr,HisAlaGlyIleIle,MetAspAlaAsnTyrLysandAspAlaLeuMetGln,respectivelyWedemonstratedtheantioxidantactivityofeightpeptidesisolatedfrommackerelhydrolysatesandfoundpeptideValTrpTrpTrpwhichshowshighestantioxidantactivityamongotherscanpreventLDLoxidationinducedbycopperionThen,weinvestigatedValTrpTrpTrpantiatherosclerosisbioactivityusingcellculturemodelValTrpTrpTrpinhibitformationoffoamcellthroughdecreasinggeneexpressionofscavengerreceptorAandiNOSinducedbyoxLDLinRAWmacrophagesHowever,reactiveoxygenspecies(ROS)andactivationofnuclearkappaBfactor(NFkB)arethemajorriskfactorsinvasculardiseaseValTrpTrpTrpcanreducesoxidativestressandpreventsNFkBactivationaswellasdownregulateinflammatorygeneexpressionsuchasCOX,CD,IL,ILinducedbyadvancedglycationendproductsinRAWmacrophagePEBeeVenomInducedGGPhaseArrestAndApoptosisInHumanBladderCancerTsghCellsViaMitochondriaDependentPathwayYungLinChuSiuWanIpandJingGungChungDepartmentsofNutritionandBiologicalScienceandTechnology,ChinaMedicalUniversity,NoHsuehShihRoad,Taichung,Taiwan,ROCBeevenom(BV)hasbeenshownpresentbiologicalactivitiesincludinginhibitgrowthandinduceapoptosisinhumancancercellsHowever,thereisnoreporttoaddressthemolecularmechanismsinvolvedinBVinducedapoptosisinhumanbladdercancerTSGHcellsInthisstudy,weshowedthattheBVdecreasedthepercentageofviableTSGHcellsandtheICisμgmlintheBVinducedcelldeathFlowcytometeralsodemonstratedthatBVinducedGGarrest,increasedthelevelsofCaproductionsanddecreasedthelevelsofmitochondrialmembranepotential(ΔΨm)inTSGHcellsBVinducedapoptosisalsowereconfirmedby,diamidinophenylindole(DAPI)staining,CometassayandDNAgelelectrophoresisTheresultsindicatedBVinducedcytotoxicityandapoptosisindosedependentmannersItissuggestedthatBVinhibitstheproliferationofhumanbladdercancerTSGHcellsandinducedapoptosisthroughinductionofCaConsequently,BVcanbeusedforclinicaltreatmentinbladdercancerpatientsinfuturePEIncreasethebiologicalactivitiesofnattoextractsbyhighpressurehomogenizerJhanYanGuo,KitHongLeeandHsiaoWeiWenDepartmentofFoodScienceandBiotechnology,NationalChungHsingUniversityNattoisatraditionalJapanesesoybeanfoodfermentedbyBacillusnattoInrecentstudies,therearemanybioactivitiesofnattoincludingfibrinolyticactivity(nattokinase),antioxidantandantimicrobialabilities,etcInordertoincreasetheamountofactiveingredientsreleasedfromnattopowders,weusedthehighpressurehomogenizertoprocessthenattoextractsInthisstudy,wecomparedthereleasedproteinratioandantioxidantactivityondifferentpressures(,,andpsi)withdifferenttreatmenttime(,,,andminutes)Astheresults,theproteinconcentrationsofnattoextractswereraised~afterhighpressurehomogenizationHowever,toohighpressurecoulddegradeproteins,sotheoptimalpressurewaspsiFurthermore,theproteinconcentrationwasincreasedfromtominutes,butthendecreasedforthelongertreatmenttimeInthestudyofreducingpower,theECvaluesofnattoextractswereaboutmgmLandthesevaluesdecreased~afterhomogenizationThisreducingphenomenaofECvaluesrepresentedthathomogenizationcouldefficientlyenhancethereducingpowerofnattoextractsMoreover,reducingpowerofnattoextractswasmoresensitivetopressurethanhomogenizedtimeConclusively,highpressurehomogenizationcouldincreasethereleasedratiooftheactiveingredientsfromnattopowderandthebesthomogenizationconditiontoreachthehighestproteinconcentrationandthegreatreducingpoweristheprocessonpsiforminutesPEEvaluationofperoxynitriteinterceptingactivityofseveralcommonusedfreshspicesinTaiwanSuChenHoYihFongLiewYaLiTangandShihMinLinDepartmentofFoodScience,YuanpeiUniversity,Hsinchu,TaiwanDepartmentofNutritionalScience,FuJenCatholicUniversity,Taipei,TaiwanDepartmentofFoodNutrition,ChungHwaUniversityofMedicalTechnology,Tainan,TaiwanPeroxynitrite,apotentcytotoxicagent,candamageavarietyofbiomoleculessuchasproteins,lipids,andDNA,andisconsideredasoneofthemajorpathologicalcausesofseveraldiseasesTherefore,itwouldappearlikelythatinterceptionofperoxynitritebycertaindietarycompoundsmayrepresentonemechanismbywhichsuchfoodsmayexerttheirbeneficialactionin
